Official- Basilica of Bom Jesus, Old Goa

A series of interventions carried out in the 1950s, like the deplastering of the Exterior Walls and changes in the roofscapes, have taken its toll on the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which has been in a steady state of decline ever since. There is an urgent need to start a dialogue on the future of the Basilica. Kindly send your support to basilicabj@gmail.com

This is the most important place in Goa. It's a constant reminder for every Goan of their roots. This is the only Church in Goa which has no religion. Everyone is welcome and we should support to protect this place forever.

Absolutely right Father, the basilica has to be protected from the elements. Lime plaster is the best solution. The top too needs proper waterproofing. I feel that use and modification of the plastering material with modern additives will enhance the durability of the plaster. We need passionate, knowledgeable people for this work. We are with you father.

All Goans spread across the globe will help financially and would like that approval be given by the ASI soon for the repairs necessary of the Basilica. Father you are in our prayers and we pray for your good health that with the blessings of St. Francis Xavier the Basilica will be restored by carrying our the full repairs. We need to spread awareness of this ... most of us are unaware that the basilica used to be plastered...No time to waste.. government authorities should realise the gravity of the situation. Collection during the Novenas and feast should be utilised for this urgent work.If not we the people of Goa will be most willing to contribute.

There is no doubt that the Basilica needs urgent attention. Just read that a Committee has been formed led by the CM, of which you will be a Member. Get the Archbishop Patriarch to issue an appeal to all the Parishes for funds, just like they did for the Cruz de Milagres Project and money will flow. Let the Government do their part and we Catholics will play our part. Thank you Fr. Patricio for highlighting this problem. God Bless you

It might also be worth investigating if the physical decline of this temporal property is connected with the spiritual decline that seems to be attendant in these times....

To save this magnificent monument you should set up a symbolic payment (INR 100) for each visitor going inside the Basilica. This would help raise funds to help your initiative.

The Basilica will indeed be saved through the intercession of St. Francis and the peoples financial support but many prayers are needed to save humans from plagues of gossip mongering, black magic, shaming and mocking people who are introverts that don't fit in society, people that have no respect for their Parents but rather hope for their death so they can get hold of their Parents property. They have no respect for their Parents lives, they will not care for them if they are bedridden and will put them in nursing homes to die yet they go to Church to show people they are holy like the pharisees. Charity begins at home and in you is the Church of Our Lord. Live and follow the path of Our Lord through the Gospel. Pray to Our Blessed Mother and to Saint Joseph and pray for the Souls in purgatory.

We Must Get together NOW to identify deteriorated stones replace them and waterproof cement plastering URGENTLY must start. Lets float Bil of Quantities and choose proficient Contractor.
