I am a couple years late to the party, but I 100% agree with you. I have made goat milk soap with liquid goat's milk and powdered, and there is no difference. They both feel nice and creamy. I currently use the powdered and put it into my oils in powdered form before I add my lye water. It works great. My customers love it.

Your right Jon, I have not noticed any difference in the fresh goat milk and powdered goat milk. When I am milking my girls I use fresh, when I am not, then I used powdered. Also when I am using fresh I never freeze! I am too impatient to slowly mix the lye with the milk. I just divide my water portion in half use the water to make my lye solution and put the remaining liquid portion in milk straight into my oils. The only thing I have noticed with doing it this way is that my batter heats up a lot and I have to refrigerate to keep cracking down. I also use powdered buttermilk and powdered coconut milk to make a 3 milk soap. It's awesome too!

Best (cold processed) soap I ever made had 33% lye concentration in the water, then added fresh goat milk at light trace. Also used lard at 20% of the oils. To heck with vegan. The best bar of soap you can make will be made with lard or tallow in addition to other oils. It's just the way it is. Made a luxurious hard white bar with great lather and conditioning properties. All the nonsense you find on-line about freezing your goat milk before adding lye and turning your soap brown due to the caramelizing of the sugars is ridiculous. Don't put yourself through that nonsense. Just add your milk at trace and it will be fine, or use powdered milk as Jon states above. Either way it will work.

Forgot to say I raise dairy goats and I use their milk in my soaps but I have also used powdered milk, there is a difference in the bars. Using the milk raw and freezing it it will not loose any benefits. Whey is important, Your bars are harder using the powdered milk without having everything that raw milk has to.

There are a lot of botanicals that are put into soap, too, dried. I'd rather have a soap with dried calendula petals than fresh ones. That said, I use fresh avocado in one of my soaps. I think that using what works, and what's cost-effective, makes the most sense. If I knew a soap had dried goat's milk added, I'd be totally fine with that.

I've been curious about this too! We have goats that we milk but my science nerd side would love to see a bar with exact ingredients and the only difference is one having fresh milk vs powdered and then see a lather test after a few weeks of curing. I know my goat milk soaps lather like crazy and just feel awesome.

Using powdered milk is so much less complicated for me. I used to shy away from milk soaps since it seemed most tutorials showed using it for the lye solution. I don't like fussy methods so it didn't make sense for me. Seeing someone add to the batter after combining lye/oils was an awesome revelation to me! SO much better! I love using Coconut cream that way also. Thanks for the comparison video. :) Enjoyed it as always. ✨

Excellent. Another option would be packaged whole goats milk. I picked some up at Whole Foods, brand Green Goat, grade A. The only added ingredients are Vitamin D (which shouldn't hurt anything) and sodium citrate (which I've read some soap makers already add for some hardness). If there are any drawbacks, other than cost, let me know.

In here I cannot find powdered milk of any kind and I would need to buy it on line but it will cost too much with shipping. I can buy fresh homogenized milk (goat /sheep /caw) in stores daily. I always thought that the powdered milk has the advantages since I will be able to control how much to put in the batter without all the excess water. Also the process of freezing the milk and than the fear of burning it with the lye really discouraged me of trying goats milk soap up till now. Your video made me rethink this but from a different perspective. I will have a go on trying it with what’s available and hope for the best.

I am a total newby getting things rounded up to make my first ever batch of soap. I may be jumping in over my head, but I’m reviewing everything I can find on Oat, milk, honey soap as a first attempt. I know, probably should start simple, but..... nope. Anyway, most all the videos I’m finding are with the fresh-frozen milk being done in the lye. If using the powder do you add to oils before adding lye solution as an additive? How much do you add? Is there an additive chart in existence somewhere with recommended amounts for common additives? Sorry if these are silly questions, but again...newb. Thanks for your great videos and all the helpful info!

I add mine to the oils and let sit for a few. But most people use it in place of regular water. So add it to your lye water after it cools and then soap as normal.

How do I determine how much goat's milk powder to add to my 5lb cp soap recipe?

It's not the same. Vitamin c and b are destroyed in the pasteurization process used to make the powdered milk. The fat content is altered also so it's not as moisturizing. Yes it's easier, but not the same quality as using fresh goat milk

Unfortunately I live in California but our dream is to move to Oregon. I told my husband I want some goats when we have the land for them but he doesn't seem to think thats a good idea. Goats milk soap is the soap that got me into soap making. Im still mediocre but I think I'm finally ready for making cold process goats milk soap. Glad to hear I don't need to keep a goat on my balcony...I don't think they would be too happy. My neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate it very much either. Any specific brand of powdered goats milk i should get in particular? Thanks for the video 😃

What ratio do you use when working with powdered goat milk ( 1 tsp/pound or 1 Tbsp/pound?)? I don’t make small batches. I make on average 30 pound batches unless it’s something new. Like Goat Milk soap.

I use 1 tablespoon pretty pound of base oils. If I was doing my 25 lb batches, I would figure out the weight and use that.
