But, according to the subtitles they're trying to make animation, so it should be an animation school, no? They even show what's clearly supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki when talking about how this school taught famous animators (and he's one of the most well known anime directors ever so)

This is something I'm seeing a lot of at my college right now. We're at a pivotal point in our animation program where a lot of people are getting stressed out and thinking about dropping out which is really sad to see. There wasn't any entrance exam like this of course, but they've all been working so hard. And that's what's getting to them. What was originally a passionate hobby is now turning into work and it's very sad to see that change. Artists and animators, please remember that, whether you're already in the field or currently studying to join that field, remember why you chose to in the first place. Remember the spark and imagination and fun you had with and bring it back. That'll keep you in the game.

Even if your dream is to go to Les Gobelins, don't forget that this school is not an end in itself, but that your end is to *do what you love.* Les Gobelins is certainly one of the best ways of achieving this end (In any case, it's a way that opens many doors), but it's important to remember that it's a way *among many others.* So, even if you fail the exams to get into this school, it doesn't mean you can't achieve your ultimate goal (which is to do what you love). There will always be other schools (or other solutions) that will enable you to achieve it. That's why you should always have a plan B (Of course, this doesn't mean that if you want to go to Gobelins, you shouldn't give it your all, because there are other ways of being an animator. Indeed, if you really want to go to this school, do everything in your power to do so; however, keep in mind that it's not the end of the world if you fail the exam, as other solutions will always allow you to do the job you want (which is, let's remember, the most important goal in the story).

This is why getting good feedback is important. Good artists never assume they can do it if they just "try hard" that things will be right eventually. Theres so much more to learn about learning art that goes beyond more than just "practicing". Like all art forms, it is a way to perceive the world through a lens that you develop and refine over years and years of experience. Struggling in art is inevitable and cannot be ignored or cast aside. Having a people support through hard times is very much a blessing that many do not have, so you must treasure and protect your friendship. Also, we all know that the next year Alex will get into animation school.

yeah me too, the story itself is pretty simple.... 2 friends work hard together, one fails, they fight, they make up. but the animation really conveyed the feelings in a strong way, it looks like how it feels, its not just realistic sakuga, its stylistic surreal sakuga to bring out the inner emotions of each scene! I think thats why

As someone who’s always been writing stories and sketching, I understand their drive. Although, even if you don’t get into some prestigious art school, that doesn’t mean that you’ve failed. On the contrary, artists should be paid and receive work by the quality of their work and the work ethic that they put into it - not based on some paper that says they studied at an art school.

THIS IS AMAZING! 😍😍😍 Alex is definitely me. I've been trying really hard for the best art institution in my country for 3 years. Always, until the last year aka last chance for me to take the test, I've been giving it my all. Even my sleep schedule is a complete mess. But I'm failing. Always. Yet my friend passed the test in her first try. It feels like my world is in crumble and it will be gone the next thing I knew, and I feel like I shouldn't have friends with her, because she's better and she's been accepted at that art institution without me. But now it's all okay. I have accepted the fact that I'm failing. And maybe I just have to find a new road to be success, in my own way. And yes, both of us still friends to this day and still counting!^^ Keep up the good work, guys! Either you are accepted or rejected by your dream institution, it will be okay. You will be okay. Everything will be okay. And kudos to the amazing team that created this animation. Happy graduation to you, guys! 🥳🥳🥳

You don't have to do gobelin to succeed in animation, in fact failing the entry test doesn't even mean you are bad, just that you aren't what they are looking for. The feeling of giving everything you've got, every fiber of your being, and all that effort still not being good enough is a crushing feeling. What can you do? If you obsess with it, it's not healthy, and giving up isn't much great either. Ideally, one should take it "one step at a time", but time never stops. Days become months, months become years. The pressure and self-doubt keeps building up until you start wondering if you'll ever make it at all. It is a suffering one must endure to improve and reach personal goals once deemed unattainable, but it still hurts. 頑張れ.

Yes, you have to understand that if the judge thinks you are not good enough, maybe it's time to take action and improve something different. This also means asking more questions. Alex's best attitude should be to ask her friend, 'Teach me! Tell me, show me.' Alex's first mistake was giving up working with her friend and starting to work alone. This means her mindset is not open enough. Of course, maybe she will understand something in the end. The same applies to engineering school in France, or medicine school. Don't forget the power of questions. Take care my friends.

At first, the pictures looked like Pokemon and the atmosphere felt like a Ghibli film. In some places, expressions like those of the advancing giants and One Piece appeared, and the part where they run at the end was similar to Naruto. The scene at the end where the two float in the sky holding hands is similar to the scene in Spirited Away where Sen and Haku float in the sky holding hands. I thought it was a wonderful work that clearly shows that it was inspired by various Japanese anime.

I LOVE THIS!!! I felt like this was so encouraging to young people to chase their dreams and not to do it alone or at the expense of others! I showed this to my nephew because he is trying to get into animation school and he loved the style and animation of this too! Wonderful!

This is such a meta video. An anime style video about people trying to get into a prestigious animation school, made by people in the most prestigious animation school in the world. This is the best advertisement for a university i’ve ever seen

I respect the fact that the one we saw practice drawing more and seems to be the more serious about getting into the school more didn't end up getting in at all. That sort of thing happens a lot in real life and I feel like that doesn't get portrayed in media much.

This is an incredible film!!!!! It's hilariously over the top at times (in a good way), has that beautifully executed old Japanese art style, right down to the editing, and executes the heartfelt portions in a way that doesn't feel forced. Not to mention, the sound design is just exquisite!!!

I love how much effort there is put into such a simple story. In reality these things happen, but the amount of bombastic enegy put into a simple apology at the end is just great 🙂 i love this

Beautiful animation! As someone also studying hard and still not being able to succeed in my exams, it really touched me deeply. At first, I was feeling really determined and hopeful, just like in the animation. But it's been 3 years now, and all I can feel now is frustration and hopelessness. I really like how they captured this pain a little bit more realistic and didn't just portray a character with infinite willpower. I just really wished I could have someone along my journey too. But anyway, thank you for sharing this work! It also reminds me to enjoy the journey!

This was AWESOME! I love the usage of trigger/gainax style limited animation, layered with plenty of expressive movement when nessicary. The boarding, direction style, its all so fun and bombastic, I love it. And i especially love seeing all the anime homages here and there, whether they be references in a drawing or referenced animation (ex, paper flying scene by shinra ohira)

This is a literal masterpiece, the message is just beautiful. The pain of an artist, something we can all relate to. You feel as if you try as hard as you can to get accepted.. but we never exceed. We are blinded by what things matter the most, our happiness. And we break and sacrifice many things along the way such as relationships. This short film is amazing, you deserve so much support! And I hope even more people acknowledge how great your work is. There’s still a long future ahead of you, and I can’t wait for the next things you are going to create in that mind of yours.
