The Tagalog language have words indicating things that are close from you, far from you, and far from you and other people. I think this will help you distinguish this lesson. 이/이것 = ito 그/그것 = iyan 저/저것 = iyon

I just had that lesson today from the ttmik books ... And since im bad with gramar even in my native language it was an extra struggle. (Like most ppl you rly dont think about the gramar in your native language, you just know it is right xD) However as soon as i realized that "thing" is actually a noun itself (after u repeated it ) it was all so clear ... sometimes u rly dont see the obvious. This is so interesting, in Portuguese we have the same concept fot this and that. Its like: 이 = este 그 = esse 저 = aquele Except, Portuguese is extra so we have a lot of versions: Este, esta, estes, estas, isto/ esse, essa, esses, essas, isso/ aquele, aquela, aqueles, aquelas, aquilo Coincidences like this make me really happy and excited to continue studying Korean!

Recently I have been watching episodes of adventure time in their Korean dub, and when I hear a word repeated often enough I'll guess the meaning then look it up in a dictionary. One of those words that I recently learned was 그럼, and being able to recognize it in your outro was such an amazing feeling! It feels like the language is slowly clicking

If you speak Spanish! 그 = eso 이 = esto 저 = aquello (el objeto se encuentra lejos) 것 = cosa 이것 = esto (esta cosa) 그것 = eso (esa cosa) 저것 = aquello (aquella cosa)

I've learned English with very few grammar classes, which was much faster and better for me. But now I just struggle to take things in when people try to explain them to me using words like "noun", "adjective", "pronoun" and so on. As I didn't use those terms to learn what I know. Well, that's an extra challenge! Let's go :)

As someone who knows Japanese and is now learning Korean, I always chuckle when I see what seems to be a common word in Korean the word 것 (thing) sounds like the Japanese word こと (koto) (thing), but Japanese does not have this same structure where you can just combine this + thing, it would sound very odd. So a lot of newbies sometimes tend to mistake この (this) and これ (this thing) a lot, which I imagine is not as much of an issue in Korean if you simply know that 것 = thing.

I don't understand why Billy said adjective but I've got understanding about this concept beforehand that ; 이 ,그,저 = is a determiner / modifier ~ describing a noun. Eg : 이햄버거는 좋아요 그 책은 재밌어요 저사람은 가수예요 . 이것, 그것 ,저것 - is a pronoun ~ describe something itself. 저거는 차예요 그거는 나무예요

They're not really "adjectives" since Korean doesn't have "adjectives" like in English, but that word mostly fits since it's used in a similar way as we do in English. A more correct term is "determiner" as you say, because unlike "adjectives" in English we can't say something is "이" ("this") or "그" ("that") in Korean and have it make sense. However "pronoun" might not also be the best term either, since we think of pronouns in English as "I/you/etc." As long as you understand how they're used, what you call them doesn't matter much since none of these terms match with English :-)

People also write them as 이거, 그거, and 저거. But it's slightly less formal (not good for tests, etc.) to write them this way.

im a little confused on the pronunciation of 이것. when you explain it the ㅅ has a ㄷ sound. but when you read the sentences the ㅅi is pronounced as is. why is that?

I explain this in the sound change rules episode in this series (all of the videos in this series go in order), but the ㅅ keeps its sound when it comes before the letter ㅇ. Otherwise it's ㄷ as you said. So 것이 is 거시, but 것 is 걷.

Billy, could you give me a hand? I just reviewed the classes about the Topic and Subject marker again. And I believe I finally got it, at least what I have to. And I have two sentences, it'd mean a lot to me if you could correct them for me: 빌리: 저것은 음악이애요 누리발: 전 음악을 좋아애요 In the first sentence I used the topic marker because I was talking about that music In the second sentence, I reused the topic marker because it changed from you to 노리발. And I used the object marker because the verb 좋아하다 is doing something to the noun "Music"

This course teaches how to say that (with the verb 가지다). You could use 가지고 싶다 and conjugate it. Also you'd want to use 이것 for a thing.

It would not be 이것을 since that is the object marker. I recommend watching this series in order, since everything builds upon the previous episodes :)

For This thing and that thing, why do you use 이에요, 예요 after the objects or after movie, music etc why don't we use the object marker. Don't we use when we are introducing ourselves 이에요, 예요. And why do you use the topic marker after this thing or that thing, isn't the topic the movie or the music or television?

Make sure you watch this series in order from the beginning, as everything is taught in order :) A previous lesson explains how to use the object marker, and what kind of verbs it can be used with.

When u say ㄱ it's both a g and k sound, but what is the more prominent sound? When U saw kimchi it's a more k sound but when U say 고양이 it's a more g sound.

Apparenlty the song was written as a diary. If it's written in a diary/journal the ending is left as 다.

예요 comes from 이다, and it's used after a vowel (케이크 ends with the vowel ㅡ).

이다 ("to be") can't use the object marker because it's not an action verb, and it's not doing anything to a word.

I recommend watching this course from the beginning and watching the episodes in order. One of the early episodes explains sound change rules, and ㅅ becomes pronounced as ㄷ in that situation :)

Hi! i wondered if there was any rule behind whether 것 is added to 이, 그, or 저? using an example of that book (near the other person), would that (ha) be 그것 책 or just 그 책?

I explain in this video that 이, 그, and 저 are followed by nouns, and 이것, 그것, and 저것 are already nouns so they can't be used before another noun like that.

Billy, I don't remember of you teaching how to use the verb to be in Korean. Just to say "My name is\I equal..." This is the first class you ever use it to say "this is" , "that is" and so on. It was kinda strange when I saw that, though I understood it. Is there gonna be some class about this verb?

The other series is not in any order. It's just a bunch of lessons in the order that they were requested. Many of them are for beginners, but a good amount are intermediate and even some advanced. This series you're watching is made in order, and is for beginners.

Not for this series, but there is a workbook for my first "Korean Made Simple" textbook. For practicing this series, I recommend making your own sentences as the best practice - and then using those with a Korean pen pal or tutor for practice.

I recommend watching this series in order from the first episode, since everything is taught in order. 이게 is taught as 이것이 previously.

감사합니다 for the lessen but I have a question. When 이것, 그것 and 저것 are shortened to 이거, 그거 and 저거 while speaking do I also change the topic marker or not? Because logically it should change but I don’t know because it’s only while speaking.

If you add the topic marker, those would become 이건, 그건, and 저건.

There aren't many vocabulary words taught in each episode, so I'd recommend learning each of them and practicing as much as you can :)

If you're talking about 이에요, this is explained in a previous lesson :-)

so it's pronounced like 'igosun' and 'jeogosun' rather than 'igotun' and 'jeogotun'? sorry for the ugly romanizations haha it's just i feel like ive heard it pronounced with a t sound :)

Yes, if you watch this series from the beginning everything goes in order. I also teach the Korean alphabet, which is required in order to complete this series :)

@@tatianemartins6615 it's just different, Chinese is pretty difficult, I've been learning for 8 years, I think that is very hard to learn Chinese by yourself, and so is Korean, you definitely need a clear structure and someone to help you.

Yes, they're different forms. ~니 is part of casual speech, and is not polite.

그것은 is pronounced as 그거슨, not with ㄷ.

Me trying to understand the example sentence before Billy's translation: "WHY is there "cake" twice and "pizza" in between I DON'T UNDERSTAND *cries in Hangul*"
