I don't remember seeing him using the shoulder cannons when he is Super Ginrai that then become leg cannons when he becomes God Ginrai.

Grand Maximus is designed to function as a spaceship for a crew of humans unlike his older brother who is designed to house full sized transformers, so in anime Grand Maximus is much smaller than Fortress Maximus. And it's Grand Maximus, not Brave Maximus.

Not true. Grand Maximus IS Fortress Maximus just like Ginrai IS Convoy. That's who those characters are originally meant to be. When the series was fully animated the producers decided to cut off ties with any previous continuity, redubbed the whole thing much like Harmony Gold redubbed SDF Macross to make Robotech and made the God Masters actual humans. The truth is they are souls of fallen Transformers reincarnated into human bodies thanks to a procedure created by Fortress before he got smashed to pieces by Black Zarak. That is why God Masters can use Chokon Power which is the combination of a Transformers Soul, organic body (Earth) and mechanical lifeform (Air). After his spaceship was destroyed by Zarak, Chromedome took leadership of the Autobots and Maximus was reanimated when Ginrai transformed for the first time in Super Convoy against King Poseidon and the Grand ship was built. It's by no means meant to be smaller than the original Fortress ship. Sizes in Masterforce shift continuosly for no reason. In one shot God Ginrai is almost the same size as Lightfoot and in the next he is a mountain with the Godmasters barely reaching HIS TOE. The brothers stuff and body for Convoy in episode 43 were retconned because no one could understand anything of the stupid new plot that they made to ruin the show.

It is true. They may have initially in the early pre-production planned something different, but with what the series ended up becoming, that is how it is.

It's as much true as the crew of the SDF1 is all dead and the SDF2 was burried behind it.

Ginrai is not Optimus prime ( Convoy ). The US version brought back Optimus, that's why the G1 splits, and Japan gets Masterforce. In Japan Convoy was gone forever.

Which one? There are many of them, both Japanese and American, very different. If you are talking about the G1, they were also made in collaboration with the Japanese.

The scripts were written by Sunbow, a US production company. Toei's writing style for Japanese G1 was different, more in line with other mecha animes.
