Everyone else acted as if he was unwanted but Hercules treated him fairly. That is why in their encounter he tried to talk him down somewhat before fighting him. He was left with no choice but tried to be reasonable.

I feel like that's the reason why kratos was so adamant on sparing thor in Ragnarok. He saw hercules in him and he didn't want to have to kill a potential ally again.

If you think about it. He tried to ignore Helios, Hermes and Hera as well but they wanted to fight. Same with Hephaestus actually too. They all tried to fight him when if they had stepped aside they would had lived. Granted Hephaestus had the best reason to go against Kratos which was to save his daughter.
