I love that you basically made young Kratos first, then gave him wrinkles, eye bags, and facial hair and turned him into dad Kratos.

I've seen other sculptures of current Kratos, and before they add the beard you can't really tell it's him. In every video of yours I've seen, you have the looks down from the get go, your attention to detail is simply amazing. Without the beard, it looks exactly like classic Kratos. Also, I really enjoyed those commentary breaks, super entertaining. Keep up the excellent work!
@SculptureGeek

Thank you so much, man! It's always tough to sign off on a portrait. I could just keep working on these things forever. At some point, you just have to call it and move on. I always try to keep in mind, things I may have missed etc... I've dissected so many problem areas so many times, I can move through a sculpt pretty quick. I remember when I first started, I would spend weeks trying to figure out what the heck was going on with each portrait and I wouldn't finish until I was happy with it or others around me felt that it looked like the subject. I guess that was like bootcamp for sculpting. Then I just keep it all in mind for the next time. I try not to take things too seriously these days though. It can eat you up and I just want to have fun doing this lol. I'm super happy to hear that everyone appreciates the insight into things though and I think I'll be sticking to this type of format for a while :) Thanks for watching and for the kind words!

Well, no need to bring down others when complimenting someone.
@_mmu1e
@_mmu1e Жыл бұрын
@@saddvikk whilst that's true, they weren't maliciously insulting other sculptors. they just made an observation that kratos, when sculpted, commonly isn't very recognizable before the facial hair. not everyone sculpts the same, thus not everyone sculpts a proper/accurate face below the facial hair. if it looks like kratos in the end, how they get there doesn't really matter. this sculptor stated that he prefers having an actual face to go off of, before adding hair, which is why kratos was more recognizable during the sculpt. now, if they actively had decided to genuinely insult other sculptors, and worded that observation differently,, they'd be dragging others down, simply to compliment another.

This is INSANE! Love the blending you did for the lip texture and temple vein, and the insane attention to detail with the stippling in some pores. Extruded clay on top to define the hair was super clever (as was its use for threading on his shoulder strap). Awesome job!

Chris, I already said this on Instagram but thank you so much for these - I’m always itching to go work on my own sculpts after watching this. Also “I could just 3D print this, and this would all just be a colossal waste of time” No, because the satisfaction people get from watching those intricate details and you recreating the lace with clay IS THE REAL POINT, it’s the appeal, it makes me so happy to watch, thank you for sharing your talent with us mere mortals.
@SculptureGeek
@SculptureGeek Жыл бұрын
Haha! Thanks bro! You're too funny lol. Your work is sick! But yeah, 3d printing is unreal these days. Fortunately it's still fun to get your hands dirty! I'm just happy anyone wants to watch. it's a bit of a challenge to make the process of sculpting look interesting to anyone who doesn't have an interest in learning. I guess you could say that for most things. Sculpting is the easy part lol. Thinking of stuff to say is the hard part. It's like- "ok now I'm gonna sculpt some nostrils" "ok, now I'm gonna sculpt some lips" "ok, now I'm gonna sculpt the eyelids" lmao. Getting into the nitty gritty makes me feel like Ben Stein tho.
@JamesMatthewASMR

@@SculptureGeek no I COMPLETELY get what you mean, I tried one video to show/film the sculpting process and I realised how absolutely not suited to filming sculpting is😂 Constantly blocking either the lighting or the camera, constantly moving the sculpt so it would go out of focus, constantly having to try and fit a tool around a big fat DSLR camera where my hand wants to be. It’s a whole other skill unto itself. The fact you sculpt like you do, and add the dynamism and cinematic aesthetic too it…you are so inordinately talented I just feel grateful that I’m alive at this particular point in history and get to see you share it with the world on KZfaq 😂🙏 Do you mould and sell copies resin or plaster copies of the busts? Sometimes 2 dimensions just never do a piece justice, I’d love to see some of your work in person/buy a copy just to enjoy up close 😩

You're a damn champion bro. I enjoy woodworking and painting myself. I've sculpted wood, but never clay. Never done anything on this level though. You definitely make me want to try it. It's a whole different concept of sculpting in my mind. It's kind of opposite to my understanding of sculpting. Anyway, this turned out ridiculously amazing man. I appreciate you recording it for others to see.
@SculptureGeek
@SculptureGeek Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I enjoy some minor wood working as well! Although, these days, it's mostly just making more sculpting tools lol. Clay is sooooo much more forgiving than wood and honestly, I think if you like what you see, you'll take right to it. Once you dig in, it's hard to stop. I think they go hand in hand as most art forms tend to. If you're doing anything figurative in wood, then sculpting it in clay will certainly help that process and then it all translates. Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by! :)

I'm thinking it's either a creative decision or a reference to the og god of war games where they made him with blue markings and more clothing, but late in production once of the producers realized he looked like the barbarian from Diablo 2, and then they quickly changed him to have less clothing and red markings, keep mind this was late in production

Your videos and content are something I always look forward to watching, and I even hold them off to build excitement and to watch it with my full attention. Your talent in the medium, filming, narrations, and overall energy is infectious and inspirational, dude! I love watching speedpaints and timelapse of art, so I can draw alongside them, but for your videos, I have to pay attention because my god. I would watch your old videos while I eat and watch them with friends to see and hear their awe at your work - just like me! Your editing skills are so personal and superb - it screams who you are and how you carry yourself. I feel nostalgic and engaged with your amazing content and talent, as if I've known you for a long time. Waiting for your next videos makes me feel like a kid ready to run to turn on their TV when their favorite show airs! I didn't mean to write so much, but your work, personality, stories, patience, aspirations, and so much more has made such a big impression on me! Your humor as well makes me smile and laugh so much LOL I just watched a full playthrough of GOW, and watching Kratos come to life from your visible years of growth and professional artistic path blows me away. I can't wait to see what you'll make next, Sculpture Geek!

Thank you so much!! I'm so happy to hear that! I wanted to change things up a bit. Even I can only take so many sculpting montages lol. I want to share more insight into the process and help people get into sculpting more so this type of format really helps me to do that. Plus it gives me more options to have fun in different ways when making videos. Thanks for watching!

Awesome! I'm happy to hear that. I usually watch very old let's plays to relax lol. The worse the audio, the better. Lots of old Commodore 64 stuff and point and click adventure games. I suffer from anxiety myself so I know how nice it is to find something you jive with! Thanks for watching :)
