Ok here's the thing. Making somewhat negative reviews for games that r critically acclaimed is not a very enjoyable process. Sometimes its better to just skip the game altogether. I have second video script ready, that is not about complaining but actually suggesting how to improve it. But I also dont want to linger too long on Ragnarök. If people really disagree hard, then there is no real point in me making that video and I can move on to the next thing. I'll keep an eye on the like/dislike bar.

14:17 the worst part of this particular example is if you go do the sidequests in the area after that scene, you find out he actually survives his "heroic sacrifice" but apparently even his friends dont care enough about him to go looking for him, and the game hardly even acknowledges it at all.

Ther you have it..for you. The thing is you cant like everything the same. Its basicly luck. Writers game devs etc always put ther ideas into so ething and sometimes you like it othertimes you dont. Then for you its a Bad game good game with things you dont like or a masterpice. You have to Also get that These writers etc arent obligte to make you happy or Listen to you. Like if you vould talk 1 to 1 mayby But now its just a random voice. The majority clearly sayed its good but Not a masterpice. .Eric is a diferent director and made definatly some mistakes like changing some of corys Plans for the plot. Yet i also think he did a good job with most thinks. Like the 2 playable characters is better executet then what TLOU P2 did. They only planed 2 parts for this story wich wss Corys mistake . But in hindsight you can learn from it and take the plot into more then 2 games. In short its like always: you cant make everyone happy and a writer shouldnt be embaresed of any decision . Mayby lock at it again and eather say no i am proud of it or say yeah i could have Done this better Well next time and move on. Thats all they can Do now basicly as the perfect..... whatever...wont exist

I feel ya. I do believe that beginning to mid had some really good story dialogue and progression but after the middle, everything is just rushed especially the ending. For some reason the first time fighting Thor felt better than the second time. And the whole “this feels familiar thing” to just him forgetting he fought the wife was such a huge let down. It’s like they wanted to include some time travel thing but had no idea how to do it and dropped it but didn’t rework it for the story so it’s just there for a cool moment and then it’s just a story told to you instead of shown

I really want you to continue making these videos so it bums me out a little to see you taking hits in views as you transition these reviews to your second channel. KZfaq didn't even recommend this review to me even though I'm subbed. I think it might be a good idea to walk back the idea of keeping reviews on the second channel, man. I and many others have been checking your main channel for reviews and seeing nothing not knowing you've been posting them over here. Because he knows modern gaming sucks and he can't be negative towards average or bad games without a mob of angry sheep. Even if they aren't angry he'll still get comments like "I disagree" or "Our opinions don't align, but I appreciate your honesty, sooo here's why you're wrong though...". I'm sure it's super annoying because it's either children who don't know what games used to be or adults who lean towards the woke agenda. Gaming is truly in a sad, broken, and uninnovating state right now. If you haven't guessed I'm one of the few people who agreed with his criticism of the main story, UI, and combat. God of War 2018 was better than God of War Ragnarok and almost every way, and that's more fact than opinion.

Both games are linear, but I've replayed God of War 4, way more than Ragnarok. It's just a tighter and more replayable experience. Running through the Valkyries is always a blast. The combat in Ragnarok is better but the game pace is super exhausting. I was always interested in what happened next and loved the dialogue but it just felt a bit overcooked. Especially with all the excess side-characters to keep up with. I feel the original was more intimate.

@@whenallelsfails21 Then what happens afterwards, it falls off hard, especially with the Ironwood section and playing as Atreus is a joke compared to Kratos from a gameplay perspective. For example, when you played as Abby in the last of us 2, it's at least fun to play as her from a gameplay standpoint and she has her own unique weapons and abilities despite how you may feel about her (she's not the best character but not a bad character either) and Final fight with Baldur was much better than the final fight in Ragnarok.

I do agree with you in terms of the story a bit. 2018 was fantastic because it was relatively small scale with a rock solid theme. SPOILERS: I just finished Ragnarok recently, gameplay wise the game is near perfect and better than the first. But story wise, I was really disappointed by how rushed the final act was. You could tell the Ragnarok sequence itself was meant to be a lot longer - recruiting the realms, Thor's story, the mask. I felt like they crammed an entire third game into the final half of this. And so many plot holes just left unexplained! The character arcs were done so so well, and I really wish we see more of these characters again. Also Thor was amazing, he deserved more!

Clear objective with stoping ragnarok, the themes of war, loyalty and accountability hit hard for me and I never thought the paceing was bad cause I felt like I choose to avoid the main story while doing side quests. But I really loved his criticism cause when finishing the game I loved it but still had rose tinted glasses. This highlighted some thing I would not have thought of but still disliked. I pretty much did not ever interact with the gear. I switched things mabey 2-3 times and when I got new gear did not even look at it cause the system as a whole feelt like it was pushing me away.

I like talking about what things could have been like, so I’d love to hear your thoughts. I think my biggest complaint regarding the story was it felt kinda lack luster by the end, and I feel like Odin, and Thor were so disjointed and separate from Kratos that they were severely underwhelming. Especially Thor. He just wasn’t there much, and when he was it was just meh. I think all the relationship moments are good because it just feels like they picked up we’re the last game left off. I feel like Kratos expresses his feelings a little too much but I enjoy him trusting characters who’ve earned his trust like Brok. I really loved the game, like tons, but it’s definitely a less focused and enjoyable experience than the last game was.

@@redninja3056 there's nothing wrong to killing characters in order to step up your history. In fact I would argue that the problem is a coward writing that can't take risk like never actually killing Kratos. The sex scene was to show the kind of relationship the characters had since they bond would be the focus for the next part. The antagonist was I huge shot, playing as the character you hate the most and then try to sympathize with her. That's an experience you can't get anywhere else since only video games allow you to literally wear someone else's shoes. And the ending was about the symbolic emptyness of vegeance. By the time you fininsh the game you shouldn't be hating Abby anymore so you are with the game in that decision. Everything boils down to whether you opened up to the character abby or not. That's why the game is a 50/50 and they knew it.

Tell me why ? Why do you feel like it ? The majority of people who played it have a vastly different opinion. So are they to be disregarded because it does not align with your thoughts ? Cause I see this shit with almost every crtically acclaimed game, if not with every. The vast majority loves it, praises it, but there are some who didn't enjoy it, which is fine. What is weird however is the fact that you people flock here and act as if this is the only truth and everyone else is to be disregarded. Maybe the problem is with the minority ? Maybe look at things objrectively before letting your subjective opinions overwhelm you ? I dunno, you are entitled to your own opinion, but acting as if everyone who praises this game is somehow wrong is pretty childish.

One of the points I slightly disagree. I like the change in shields, it can open new types of combat and if you find yourself struggling with one enemy type, the big shield might help you out for example Furthermore, It’s true that hand combat isn’t actually needed or benefit you in general anymore. But for me I’m running a build where I poison enemy’s with hand combat and then doing additional damage to them while switching to the axe, wich leads me to very rarely using the blades.

It really feels like they condensed the story of 2 games into 1. Freya and Thor were supposed to be the main antagonist of the second game I think. The vision in GOW 2018 and Freya's burst of anger at the end suggested that. But since Thor wasn't the antagonist anymore, they *had* to have the scene of Thor coming to the home but then awkwardly made Odin come later. For Freya they resolved it too quickly, with key dialogue being put during gameplay, and it felt like Atreus' mission to go see her was forced because they needed a transition from Freya wanting to kill Atreus and Kratos to "temporarily" joining them. Atreus acted like an idiot and was only saved by the plot. And what about Jormungandr and Fenrir's plotline? They got delegated to Angrboda. Even though the story the felt rushed, at the same time it feels like the team didn't have enough creative juice to make two more games in the same setting.

They didnt go with a marvel-esque ending. You did say you dont care about norse myth, so I'll just tell you that the entirety of it, is about prophecy and how no matter what you do, you end up where fate had you put. The war is imminent, every single race participates, and they did that beautifully. I love the game, but 1- I the UI is the worst. The first one was so good to look at, it was clean, shiny, and enough. This one is so clumped and dark and ugly af. 2- some plots were amazing, but they eventually end abruptly out of nowhere and make no sense. (E.g: The way the fight with Thor ends, The way Thor's fight with Jormungandr ends so fast... the way Sif just forgets her hatred for you in the end?. The way Odin just lets Atreus take his soul??. The way Heimdall suddenly becomes vulnerable?????) Especially the Heimdall one, it's awful. I understand how he'd get fooled by the spear, but why can you hit him with anything ever afterwards? And he doesn't seem bothered at all? I think a better way would've been to have kratos blind him, then after the first time he's hurt, he runs away in shock, and you catch up to him, and he starts making blatant mistakes out of fear and shock. Instead he's so chill and keep making the same moves but you can now hit him just cause... The game is still a Masterpiece, but it does have hella flaws with the story more than with gameplay

I can only agree with you on sif, and only partially. Like she does drop her hatred pretty quickly, but then again, she didn't tell thor to outright kill atreus, that was his own doing. Her talking to thor was about him finally standing up to Odin. She then appears after odin's mistreatment of the midgardians, and is more chill, since she most definitely witnessed Kratos and Atreus trying to actually help the innocent. Heimdall, unlike Hermes, was not a coward, so he wouldn't run away. Him getting overwhelmed by Kratos stems from the fact that after Kratos manages to hurt him, Heimdall goes on the offensive, which doesn't leave much time for defence. Plys kratos is just stronger and faster. The spear helped, since it's a weapon heimdall doesn't have a perfect counter for since there is an infinte number.

Awesome review, I was mixed on the game, I don’t think it’s bad but it’s not great. The story sucks, I love the gameplay and some of the minor changes but it’s narrative is so inoffensive and bland, even people who loathe the game can’t really be mad at it because nothing really noteworthy happens, and the arcs that the main characters go through in the previous games are just repeated. I wasn’t a fan of Odin either, he’s a sleazy Saul Goodman type when it would’ve been cooler if he had a more threatening presence and physique, would’ve made more sense why Thor punks out every time he’s with him. The rehashed and generic “heroes must band together with some friends to fight the big bad guy” is a trope I’m sick of. 2018 had a familiar formula it stuck to as well, but it benefited from being a more intimate journey rather than just trying to be God of War Endgame. I’m gonna steal this quote but it sums the game up, “bigger isn’t always better.”

@@virtualrobb5964 Dude, you saw what happened to mimir, freya, how the dwarves are all scared little yes men. Hell he corrupted children's souls into being his raven spies. I dont know what else you would need to be "shown" to convince you.

@@whenallelsfails21 Everything you listed happened offscreen, even the dwarves thing because you never actually see him killing any of them beside Brok, which happened in a completely different context. Seeing Odin actually doing some of those things would have helped him to be established as a more threatening villain in my opinion.

@@virtualrobb5964 i think it would have completely detracted from him being convincing in any sense whatsoever. "everybody's got the wrong idea Loki. I'm just looking for answers". Next scene: *commits a genocide in plain view of everyone* Youre supposed to be convinced too man. Why would you need to see one action out of hundreds, when you can see the consequences of all of those actions at once? It's not just "telling" you this stuff happened, you can plainly see it for yourself, how each and every decision he made impacted all of the realms.

i feel like the story of Odin and Thor was a bit rushed, because there could so much more about them, Thor has his own family, that we could see a progress in relationship of, as well, but Odin is still a bish lol.

The underwhelming ending to Thor's mostly well-done arc was baffling to me, why would they build up such an interesting father son relationship to resolve it in one of the most lazy ways possible, especially considering how much time went into developing Thor's character

I do agree that for me, ragnaroks' story was far inferior than the 1st one. The 1st one sucked me in and had me constantly wanting to know what happens, all the way to the end. The 2nd? Not even close

While you and I agree about many things, my friend, I truly enjoyed the combat system and playing as Atreus. However, I greatly missed the Shield Combat. They need to patch that in later updates. The UI is truly terrible. Apparently it's disorganised nature was to spell it out "more easily for new players?" Also, the fact that we can't select our post-story companion pains me. Ragnarok was an underwhelming skirmish. You were right about the writers. Double the staff then the first game.

Definitely agree on what you said about the UI and the combat. The UI is a massive eyesore and very cluttered and the combat felt off for so many reasons, especially the triangle charge mechanic breaking the flow. Story-wise I'm always forgiving probably because I was an anime fan and there are somethings you have to just let go and enjoy as is without thinking too much.

most action pack set pieces from Valkyries, Berzerkers, and mostly boss fights doesn't utilize Ragnarock newly implemented verticality, they always in flat set locations. compare to how you stroll along as you progress fighting mobs had vast combo movesets for every interaction as enemies were set in different locations for an action adventure, its predecessors (mostly over the top GOW3), and other titles akin to the genre that were engaging and even has platforming.

I think you were spot on in many things. I felt a type of way about the game but I didn't know how to express it, you helped me find the words/ideas for it. I think Ragnarok is carried by the scale of its events and character performance... it's a shame since GOW 2018 is my favorite game of all time, a much much simpler story but delivered in a genius way. I think the absence of Cory Balrog prevented this game from being the masterpiece it deserved to be.
