I really like their backstory. My take on this is not that Faye _made_ Kratos a better man. Of course, she was a big influence on him turning over a new leaf but I think it's more like Kratos saw Faye as somebody who was also trying to atone for past mistakes much like him, a kindred spirit you might say. He didn't just want to be a better person _for_ her, he wanted to be a better person _with_ her. The path of redemption can be lonely, and it might have been a comfort for Kratos that Faye was willing to hold his hand and walk it with him.

The most important trait is that she's emotionally strong. I was worried that Faye was just going to be this tragic dead cutout board who only exists to be perfect and kind but you can clearly see a lot of characterization with her that definitely resonates with Kratos. He respects strength and not only did we learn that Faye was once a ferocious shield maiden but she was very similar to Kratos and is the dominant one in their relationship. She doesn't just reminds Kratos to be better, she urges him to be better. You can see she has complete faith in her husband and son but only later we learn that she basically bet the fate of the realms on them to defeat their destiny. She was the reason why Kratos and Atreus turn out to be the heroes they were meant to be.

You can tell Kratos deeply misses her in this game, especially in scenes of him holding the pouch, really want to read the novel for Ragnarok to see his inner thought as the 2018 novel even tells how his journey with his son to spread her ashes that he really wanted to break down crying but he is holding it in to complete her request with the pouch with her ashes being only thing helping him as it the only thing that giving him a sense of her presence with memories of smiling calmly towards him in bed unafraid of him and the things he did in his past, also tells how unwilling he is to let Atreus hold it, immediately always saying no up until they reach Jotunheimen

Faye is everything I hoped she would be. There is a perfect mix of motherly love and strength that made Kratos drawn to her. She is the one who pushes him to do the right thing by being the domineering force of their relationship while Kratos is mostly reactionary and is the one being helped because he doesn't know answers to his questions and his anger but she does. When she says 'we must be better than this' is a tough reprimand to Kratos' passive, stoic nature to face away from his problems alone but it was a good sense to make him confront his problems instead of just moping about the mistakes he has made in the past. She's the best thing that ever happened to him after his debacle in Greece.

the reasons why I like faye and I like every scene of hers are: her cutscenes shows how much love does change people, I mean how he was before and after he loved faye and saw what she seeks he is just like a completely different person, so if you loved someone so much just try to see what the good seeks he/she has and try to make them your good seeks as well, and for faye I liked her a lot cause she was the one who changed kratos into someone completely different she made him from a selfish, ruthless, deadly murderer to a selfless and friendly (not always friendly) hero, she was the one who made kratos stops their child from being like his old father younger kratos.

I love how we don't have to see Kratos cry to know that the loss of Faye was devastating to him. That one lingering shot of his expression after the image of baby Atreus fades away-- it's the look of someone who's been mortally wounded and trying to muscle through the pain. A grief so powerful that he couldn't cry it out even if he wasn't used to holding his tears in check. Whoever was behind the facial capture of this game deserves an award.

Haven't seen this be commented yet, but I love the subtleties to each sequence with Faye. Each time after the interactions with her, Kratos wakes up in an emotional state, as if pulled from a nightmare. However in the last one where he finally has the chance to let her go, grieve deeply and reconcile with his past does he have the best night's sleep in a long time, even more so on the eve of Ragnarök. Just something to add to my love for this game.

It seems to be that with each of the times he remembers her, she gives him lessons that apply to the situations in which he is currently struggling. In this case, she is trying to give him a reason to live when personally I think he was ready to die. The story he was telling Atreus about the woodcutter who threw down the logs because he could not bear their weight and called death to him seems to apply to Kratos himself. He was probably thinking that it would be the last time he would spend time with his son before the end and part of him may well have been looking forward to the end. Faye in that flashback was trying to encourage him to find a reason to live even without her.

7:57 I think we all need to remind ourselves of that. Faye is a wise strong woman. The type of woman I wish I could have as a partner. Kratos was a very fortunate man and I’m sure he knew that. Man loves his wife and son, just doesn’t know how to show affection after all he’s been through and done. I thought I didn’t know how to show affection but in reality is that I don’t show affection because I’m protecting myself from future pain. I don’t open up because I’m afraid to lose the people that want to get close to me. Wether I lose them by them walking away from my life or losing them in a more painful way. And it doesn’t help that my childhood hero was Batman, a man with depression that dresses up like a bat. Then constantly putting myself down for my past failures and mistakes instead of doing what Faye told Kratos doesn’t help either. I am going to try to remember that line. “We are not our failures, we are not who we were, we must be better.”

After seeing this I can see why Kratos held Faye in such a high regard and was enraged whenever Atreus tried to joke or belittle her memory.

Ah yes. Kratos: the God of War, the Ghost of Sparta, Slayer of the Titans, Butcher of the Fates, Harbinger of the Fury, Destroyer of the Greek Pantheon, the Oathbreaker, the Kinslayer, now the Grumbles and the Good boy.

9:19 That's such a brilliant callback. That's the exact same way he reacted when he saw Lysandra's and Calliope's blood on his hands after accidentally killing him. Till now that moment still haunts him, as his new fear is losing Atreus.

we all fell in love with faye at the 2018 game, even tho she never spoke nor made an appereance and all it took was 3 seperate scenes for us to love her even more from stories to meeting her in the flesh, faye was such an impacting character even for kratos

If they decide to make DLC for GOW, I think it should be about some of the lore behind Faye. Imagine us finally being able to play as her and see her wielding the axe

Jesus so that's Faye! Was kinda hoping she'd get her own spin off prequel game with conan like adventures with her as the leading role. Too bad, but this is very wholesome.

I loved all these scenes, I especially loved the theatre like transitions like set changes, they’re so beautiful and u can tell how much they loved each other. He doesn’t say much but his few words says everything. “The moment you are gone a part of me will be gone too.” Kratos loves Faye and I think it means so much to him that despite all he had done someone can still love him and see past all of that. Kratos was always a good man buried beneath rage and anger that she just helped to unearth. To show him that strength is to be brave enough to be gentle which he understands with his son

"The culmination of love is grief. And yet we love despite the inevitable, we open our hearts to it." "To grieve deeply is to have loved fully. Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me and you will find every reason to keep living in it." Top tier writing right here.

Perhaps one of the best aspects of God Of War (4) is the meditative aspect. Kratos has grown in the decade(s?) past his conquest over the pantheon, and in that time he rage he once felt has simmered down into believable shame and regret. It's very natural, especially if your rage actually had a goal, to reach a feeling of meek purposelessness and become more sullen and sorrowful after the fact. His life's goal was to stick it to Zeus and he's done that. Now what? It didn't bring his family back- By the time Baldur shows up at his door, Kratos has lost twice now the love of his life and has to become a better role model for his new family to avoid the sins of the past, and it's evident in how quiet in contemplative he's become. Where once he basically shouted every line of dialogue, he speaks to Faye in quiet grunts and gruff whispers. There's regret in his voice and shame in his eyes. He was young, then, full of rage and even moreso, power, so much so that he could topple Olympus almost single-handled without a second. Those were the actions of a boy, though. Now he's a man. Actions have consequences.
