unfortunately the biggest issue i have with all theories having to do with kratos dieing is that the devs themselfs say that kratos is FAR FAR FAR stronger than the games lead you to believe due to the fact that it's not fun to play a game where you insta kill all the titans and gods. they also said that kratos has not lost his strength in the new installment and mainly has just toned down his attitude and also has learned to control himself, using only the amount of strength necessary. another factor is that kratos carried the ultimate power (hope) and released it back unto mankind, which you may remember he is half mortal, therefore still has the power of hope and cannot die

Kratos gets killed, kratos gets forced into the "never go there" part of heliheim, has to fight his demons and zeus again. Gets super lighting, goes back and curb stomps everyone.

I think it's Athena who will show the past of Kratos to Atreus, I really doubt that there still any Greek gods roaming in their lands, I tend to believe that they all perished the moment the mount of Olympus crumbled. The outcome of the Athena making appearence is clearly avenging herself on Kratos, it won't surprise me if she sides with Freya to kill Kratos and then destroy the Aesir Gods, apparently Athena has nothing to lose anyway. In mythology, Mjonir is so heavy only a few gods and giants can lift, and fewer wield it. But if anyone can do it, Kratos can.

I don't think Surtr will be/should be an enemy, he was portrayed by Mimir in a positive light, Asgard was meant to burn from his sword killing everything and the "bloody world" when Ragnarök begins. It was also told in Mimir's stories that Hrimthur who created the walls of Asgard, whispered something to Freya that may be about the weakness of the walls of Asgard that could be exploited when Ragnarök arrives, therefore could provide an opening for the fire giant Surtr. Mimir also mentioned that Freya might be plotting to retrieve her wings since she did ask Mimir where to find them while Kratos and Atreus were in Jötunheim. So instead of mercenaries, it could be Freya herself that they will fight as a boss, since she is bent on retrieving her warrior spirit. I think the next GoW would be too long to be the last game since a lot of things and characters would arise simultaneously if Ragnarök were to happen in the next game, therefore it would require a lot of work. The next game in my theory would focus on Fimbulwinter and who might Kratos and Atreus encounter at least until Kratos OR Tyr dies (maybe) as forseen in the walls of Jötunheim. Depending on how much or what changes because Mimir did say that fate definitely did not count on Kratos and that they changed something. In short, relying on what actually says in norse myth would not be as accurate to what would happen in the game.

Kratos is going to die in a fight with Odin/Thor. Because he will not use his old ways (His rage and full godly powers) in order to "protect" Atreus from his past. Then atreus will revive him as we see in the paintings in Jotunmheim. Atrues will die doing so and then Kratos is going to go back in time to prevent this from happening and finally accept that he has to use His old ways to save his BOY. He will kill many aesir including Thor. Kratos was the one that blew the horn and summoned the Serpant back in God Of War 4 when atreus was ill. In a dialogue with mimir we are informed about what happened while the two characters were in jotunheim. More specifically Freya found mimir's head and forced him to tell her where odin has hidden her valkyrie wings

After all, Kratos and Atreus are responsible for not just Baldur's death, but also the deaths of Magni and Modi. I mean, I can already imagine Thor hearing the news of what had happened to his sons and brother not too long and losing it, thus forcing him to hunt down Kratos and Atreus. After all, we've been given many clue-ins throughout the game that Odin and his fellow Aesir Gods are nothing but completely sadistic assholes, and Odin will undoubtedly be on the warpath for Kratos and Atreus's heads.

Personally I think Thor might kill Kratos, who will also lose his hand. Then he will be reincarnated in Valhalla as he will have died honorably in battle. However he won’t have his hand, and (since time travels a big thing) Kratos becomes Tyr the handless God of War ( tho Brock and Sindri will probably make him a new one) and this is how Kratos ends up in Asgard and kills many of the other gods, since Valhalla is in Asgard

Judging by the tweet from the voice actress of Freya, it would seem as she goes back to Odin, to get back her wings and team up with him once again to fight against Kratos. Some is obviously visible in the end of the game on the ruins of the mountain.

Thor kidnaps atreus and takes him to odin so kratos comes back to life or whatever knowing he cant defeat Thor so he travels back to Greece to retrieve the blade of olympus and also meet Tyr in Greece (sounds impossible but you will never know) and comes back to midgard and starts ragnarok to take back atreus which atreus will find about his godhood and how he killed all the gods in greece.... They can't give up on the option of a greek character fighting Kratos, that would force him to share a little more with Atreus than he already did. A conflict between Atreus and Kratos is something I consider a necessity if we truely want to see Atreus as the eventual heir to Kratos' throne, so I think something along theses lines should definitley take place in the next game, which also fits Atreus growing up and becoming a teenager. Actually, if Kratos will be forced to tell Atreus more about his past, that might trigger the fight between them. And, for this one I actually have no backing up, but we could also see the dynamic duo fighting against Hel (Hela for those of you who know nothing but Marvel), goddess of death, back in the icey realm of death which could also may trigger another Zeus encounter, pulling us back to Kratos having to tell Atreus more and I just really think that this is going to happen, I really do.

Personally and this is gonna sounds crazy but I think that Thor will be a boss fight but it will be the second to last fight but during the fight I think Kratos will be beating up Thor and towards the end of the fight and Thor will say something along the lines of “I’m glad the curse worked on her” meaning that Odin placed a curse on faye which would kill her at a point in her life and after this is said I think kratos will go crazy and just murder Thor “ or jormungandr will kill Thor “and Atreus will be shocked and after this I think that Atreus and kratos will set out to free fenrir from his imprisonment but kratos will keep Thor’s hammer knowing that it is the only way to get into Valhalla cause there’s a magical shield around it and breaking the shield will destroy the hammer and during there journey kratos will leave Atreus in search of Valhalla since he heard a prophecy stating “of the two one may live” and kratos thought that if he took Atreus with him he would die so while still furious kratos finds the gates of Valhalla and just goes insane on the gates with mjolnir eventually breaking the gate and as soon as it breaks he charges in and since the barrier is broken the dead of Valhalla will stay dead no coming back after a while he charges in and just starting swinging his blades of chaos everywhere killing everything that comes in his path while he is consumed by his rage not holding anything back and as he’s killing Odin’s warriors he reaches odins council chambers which have giant doors and I think kratos will at this point just charge through the doors and see all kinds of God’s sitting at the table talking to Odin and About there situation and then all the gods will charge him 1 by 1 and I think he will just murder them all as they come until he kills a god then turns around to see Freya staring at him at the sight of her he lowers his weapon and she strikes him with a arrow through his heart sending him flying but while this was happening Atreus woke up and discovered his father left and set out to free fenrir knowing that his father was at Valhalla and once he free’d fenrir he road him to Valhalla and as soon as he was about to go into odins council chambers he saw his dad get struck by the arrow he dismounted off fenrir who charged at Odin then he knelt next to his father like at the end of the game when they see the giants telling the future drawing things and just holds him while freya stands there in shock realizing what she did to Atreus killing his father and at that moment Atreus becomes enraged and charges her and the ensuing boss fight happens but then Atreus will kill her and turns to look at Odin who is still fighting fenrir and Atreus still enraged tells fenrir to back off and Atreus charges Odin stabbing his calf and then stabbing his knee dropping him to one knee then he runs away and turns around and shoots a arrow into his other knee leaving Odin motion less and unmovable and then he takes his knife from odins knee and ties Odins legs and arms together and tells him he is paying for all the cruelty he caused and sits him upright tied up and tells fenrir he can have him and as he’s going back to his father odins screams but is cut off by the sounds of fenrir eating him..... but I know there are many plot holes in this situation but I was just thinking how awesome this sounded in my head and I was wondering if you guys thought it was cool to and there is a lot of room for improvement and stuff but it can only make it better

If Atreus becomes the new protagonist for god of war, His weapons should be the blades of Valhalla and Mjölnir.

Gow 4's very up close and personal camera really fit with the narrative of this father son relationship going through its highs and lows. It really makes you feel right there but it's a struggle for big fights. Zooming out to show the scale of the foe you are fighting a la gow 3 against kronos really is epic and it wouldn't surprise me with the next two games most likely having many more boss battles and epic fights, the camera will begin to zoom out a little. Or I'm just talking out of my ass. Who knows

1 - When you mentioned the Norns, I couldn't help but think of an episode of the Disney Hercules' prequel series, where Herc and Phil went to the Norse Lands, sought out the Norns, only to find that they WERE the Greek Fates as well. Phil accused them of double-dipping. 2 - Nidhogg would fit in another way. Freya vowed to feed their souls (or at least Kratos') to 'the vilest filth in Hel'. Nidhogg not only chews on Yggdrasil in mythology, but also feeds on the unjust dead in Niffleheim. Now, I know that the giant bird in Helheim does the same thing, but I'm sure a hair can be split to allow for that.
