GOD'S OFFER OF REBIRTH - The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (February 21, 2021)

Today is the First Sunday of the Lenten Season, which commenced with the imposition of ashes
last Wednesday.
As always, we read and proclaim on the First Sunday of Lent the account of the temptation of
Christ in the desert. Saint Mark did not elaborate on the temptation, but Saints Matthew and
Luke narrated to us how Jesus triumphed over the devil by remaining faithful to God and His
Word.
After the temptation and the arrest of John the Baptist, Jesus goes to Galilee proclaiming: “This
is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Friends, this is one of the messages of Lent: that we may rend our hearts in repentance and
renew our belief in the Gospel.
