#GodSavetheQueen
Today marks the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice agreement that ended the First World War at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.
As a form of remembrance, this channel uploaded one of the best renditions of the British national anthem, "God Save the Queen" which was played upon the arrival of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall in 1983. She led the Royal Family in remembering the end of the Great War while her daughter Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh were in Kenya during that time.
Also present in the Festival of Remembrance were His Majesty King Olav V of Norway, HRH Charles Prince of Wales, Diana, Princess of Wales, HRH Anne the Princess Royal, HRH Prince Andrew Duke of York, and the Rt. Hon. Margaret Thatcher MP, Prime Minister.

@@DavidA-ps1qr thanks:-) he was very popular as king here in Norway, we thought of him as everyone’s grandfather. He lost his wife Crown princess Martha in 1954 and never remarried. When he became king he was king alone with his children as help. He died in 1991 and i remember our school teacher was completely devastated, we got the news in class, and everyone cried. I was 11 at the time. His son became the Next king and he is as beloved as his father. He and his wife are great monarchs, very down to earth and accepting. I absolutely love the royal family and hope we never become a republic, according to the polls over 80% support monarchy even among the younger generation, so in the future we will have a Queen as monarch, princess Ingrid Alexandra. So exiting.

Sadly, I never got to meet him, but the staff loved him. The story was, that as he got older, the event got a little too much for him and he used to fall asleep during it. Bless him. :-) :-)

@@DavidA-ps1qr wonderful story😀yes, i can imagine that. Remarkable being at the age of Queen Elizabeth and still be so strong and energetic, so is her husband, almost 100. Here our Queen Sonja is 83, full of life and the best thing she does is to run with her friends and walk long hikes in the mountains. I lived close to Bygdøy in oslo where they live on a big farm, and i used to see her running, I think she was 75 at that time. People often believe that royals just sit there and shake hands, but honestly, the amount of work they do is something I personally would not cope with. And being social all the time when all you really feel for is a nap😂

Ordinarily, the ranking member of the Royal Family does not sing the anthem as they are acting as The Queen's representative. If you look at footage of the Princess Royal's arrival at the Royal Variety Performance in 2011 and the then-Prince Henry's arrival at the closing ceremony of the 2012 OIympics, neither sing the anthem as they were representing the Crown. The Queen Mother always mumbled the Anthem, she never sang it; contrary to protocol, she was also allowed to remain seated when the Queen entered or left a room.

Dan is right, she was still a Queen, she was a dowager Queen. As the Queen’s mother she was given the title The Queen Mother, although she wasn’t the reigning monarch she was always still a dowager Queen in her own right. It was probably habit from her younger years and her relatively low Royal status prior to December 1936. At least one biographer described how Queen Mary had kissed her husband's forehead immediately after his final breath then stood up, turned and dropped into a deep curtsey before kissing her son, the new king. She probably honoured her second son in the same manner, the moment after the official abdication papers were signed and curtsied at his Coronation. And in turn, Queen Elizabeth followed suit. Both probably mumbled the national anthems when their husbands were present- as indeed does Prince Philip, when Her Majesty is present.
