The depravity of the human race has been blatantly displayed in every place throughout all of history. The Apostle Paul was clearly right when he said, “None is righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).
This truth is illustrated every day. We see riots in the streets, corruption in government, perversion in marriage, and then, of course, there is plenty of sin remaining in our very own flesh. The Reformer, John Calvin, taught that such things should turn our gaze to God. He wrote, “Indeed, our very poverty better discloses the infinitude of benefits reposing in God. The miserable ruin, into which the rebellion of the first man cast us, especially compels us to look upward.”
We have all sorts of trouble down here because we have neglected to look up there. We are made in the image of God. But many have forgotten God, leaving the phrase “image of God” meaningless. Now is a time to know God and worship Him. Calvin also said, “Nearly all the wisdom we possess, that is to say, true and sound wisdom, consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves.” Man no longer knows himself. But there is no way to rediscover the truth about man without first coming to a true knowledge of God.

@@michaelthechristian8286 by you saying we have incorruptible bodies awaiting us concedes to my point: your so-called freewill is lessened due to our current, corrupted bodies, which therefore makes it limited. And if God, who indeed does "all that he pleases" has limitations not to lie or sin, how much more limited does his sin-ridden, marred image bearers have?

Heretical prayer: O Mother of Perpetual Help, thou art the dispenser of all the gifts which God grants to us miserable sinners; and for this end He has made thee so powerful, so rich, and so bountiful, in order that thou mayest help us in our misery. Thou art the advocate of the most wretched and abandoned sinners who have recourse to thee: come to my aid, for I recommend myself to thee. In thy hands I place my eternal salvation, and to thee I entrust my soul. Count me among thy most devoted servants; take me under thy protection, and it is enough for me. For, if thou protect me, I fear nothing; not from my sins, because thou wilt obtain for me the pardon of them; nor from the devils, because thou art more powerful than all hell together; nor even from Jesus, my judge, because by one prayer from thee He will be appeased. But one thing I fear: that in the hour of temptation I may through negligence fail to have recourse to thee and thus perish miserably. Obtain for me, therefore, the pardon of my sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace ever to have recourse to thee, O Mother of Perpetual Help. This is a legit Catholic prayer, look up "O Mother of Perpetual Help" if you want to know if it’s legit. This is super heretical. This doctrine of invoking departed saints doesn’t seem just like "hey it’s like praying to a friend.". . : ) . . .

Check out his books. Plus there are plenty other videos to watch on KZfaq. Don’t ignore Catholic sources on this because, unfortunately, they tend be much more studious and clear on the doctrines of Divine simplicity, immutability and impassability.

This has been answered very early on by the Church Fathers. God the Son, who is impassible, took to himself a passible nature. The one who is immutable united himself to a nature that is mutable. The simple Son born in the flesh with parts. Logos, who is the Creator of all things, became created. As long as we distinguish the divine and human natures of Christ, we can always harmonize the divine impassibility, immutability and simplicity of the Christ with the creaturely nature.

Is one of the reasons why people react against this because "passionate" doesn't mean today what it meant in the seventeenth century. I.e. then it meant changeable in emotions due to external influences, but now it means devoted, so when someone says "God is passionate about you" it means "God is unceasingly devoted to you."

I agree. The scriptures that are used are taken out of context and used as proof-texts to support a man-made philosophy not exegetically derived.

Why is a “passionate” love necessary a finite love ? An infinite Divine Person with an infinite freedom to Love, can love infinitely.

How can God "care" about anything? "Care" used to mean to be anxious about something and so God clearly never cares in that sense. Care now means to value something as important, but a person can only value something if that thing gives something to them. As God is never the beneficiary, he cannot regard anything as valuable (other than perhaps himself) and therefore doesn't care about anything.

That’s because Christ become human which lead feel human passions. His talking about can God feel passion within his divinity. Not what ever Christ felt passions within his humanity

Classical theism, negative theology, Neoplatonism, and the doctrine of divine simplicity are dangerously close to atheism!

Notice all the dictionary definitions of words, and abstract concepts, and the thought-experiment arguments to his conclusions, rather than starting from Scripture’s revelation of the character of the living Person of YHWH God, and proceeding according to Scripture’s concerns, not those of philosophers. Yahweh’s nature can NOT be derived from humanly-defined words and mental conceptions; He’s an actual person whose objective reality is supernaturally revealed to us in Hebrew Scripture, not Plato’s conceptual philosophy of the One. The latter is the “theology” of pagans like Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus, which has infected Western X’ty thru Justin Martyr, Augustine, Aquinas and Calvin.

Ya gotta love Calvinists. They need to have a god who is both inert and unaffected by his creatures, like a rock, but also angry at humans all day long. Which is 1) a contradiction and 2) the worst of both worlds and 3) the opposite of the Hebrew Bible’s revelation of Yahweh, the Living God. But hey, to each his own.

This seems to be a caricature of Calvinists. If you haven’t read the thirty nine articles, the Westminster confession, or the Belgic confession I highly recommend it. Very helpful when trying to understand the reformed views.

@@VickersJon Oh, I’ve read the Westminster and the London Baptist and the Institutes and now Dolezal with his impassible, immutable God that comes straight from Plotinus, who got it from Plato. Notice how no one ever recommends that you start with Scripture to understand Calvinism…

So, (that is, because of this grief), I will blot out man who I have made from the face of the land…(man and animals), for I am sorry that I have made them. - Gen 6:6-7 Yeah, there’s your immutable, impassible, unaffected god of classical (i.e., pagan) theism, right there in Scripture …

It’s a anthropomorphic metaphor. Malachi 3:6 I am the lord I do not change “And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”” I Samuel 15:29 NKJV ““God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19 NKJV God doesn’t relent,repent, or change his mind. He is immutable, simplistic and impassible

@@jimmymiller7910 And where did you get your hermeneutic, that allows you to negate the plain meaning of Scripture as “anthropomorphic” ? Not from Scripture, but from pagan classical theism. I also see that you’re using one Scripture to negate another Scripture; you’d better rethink that approach… You’re argument isn’t with me, it’s with the Scriptures, friend. I’m just recommending you take ALL Scripture seriously, even if seems difficult to do so. Otherwise what you’re really doing is throwing away the passages that bother you, in favor of the ones you’re personally comfortable with.

@@jimmymiller7910 It’s not what I believe, it’s what the ancient Jewish authors wrote, that matters. Based on their whole picture of Yahweh, taken as written, how would THEY understand Numbers ? FWIW, that Numbers passage seems to be about God keeping His Word, doing what He promised, etc. Perhaps “repent” here refers to going back on one’s word; that sense wouldn’t contradict Gen 6. Not every verse is a categorical statement of a metaphysical absolute. Yahweh is a person, not a physics equation. One might describe Lincoln as ruthless in prosecuting the Civil War and also gracious to the South afterward; both are true of Lincoln. The text, and God, is so much richer this way. Good luck !

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit’ - Is the Holy Spirit perpetually, eternally grieving and it’s only now being manifest in certain situations? I think Dolezal is initially correct, but needs to contemplate how God can condescend into a passable state, without losing who he is in his own context. If God makes efforts to be relational with us, don’t try to ignore his efforts for the sake of the honor that God was willing to risk.
