Well, what a surprise! I've had my AD200pro for a couple of months now, but watched your video by chance and what do you know.....I had to play that bit back a couple of times where you mentioned high speed sync... I was under the impression that my D7500 AND my D4 were sentenced to be having a flash sync speed of max 1/250th sec for ever. After paying more attention to the buttons and display on the AD200 and the flash sync speed item in my cameras' menu I now have high speed sync on my cameras. So, a BIG thank you!!

@@marcanthonystorm dude I love your composition. I would say that the lighting is just a bit harsh meaning that your highlights transition to shadows super quick. Like a line directly from dark to light. Each to their own style, what I would try is to soften things just a bit with a modifier or a diffuser in front of the light. Love the look, just looking to bring the highlights down a bit on the skin. Just my thoughts, does that help?

Thanks for your videos! I've watched a few! I use to live in Sacramento, CA - (Carmichael, Midtown, and near Land Park) Great info on the AD200... I've been debating on getting a AD600 or another AD200 and combine them as the "wonder twins" w/AD-B2 -- seems more power is awesome if I'm comfortable w/the weight, especially since I live on near the equator now and sun in the tropics can be bright... Once again, thank you for keeping it real and fun, real fun, really funny. You know what I mean, Bro. Seriously, I asked you a question on your review of the Godox AD600pro, so I won't repeat it here, except to ask: (as a new photographer, and especially new to flash/strobe), what are the major advantages of the AD600 over the 200 (other than Watt Seconds). I.e. - what do you do in or out of studio that the AD200s were not enough power? Thanks Sean.
@358studios
@358studios Жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks again for asking. I love it when people are curious and want more details. My challenge with lower watt units, in and out of the studio, is usually modifiers. Yes, the AD600 Pro will shoot a bit farther, but sooner or later the inverse square law of light kicks in and you end up with super harsh shadows and wild highlights. Distance, and breadth… Let’s say I have a group of 10 people, and I need to keep the harshness of the lighting to a minimum, I would have to have an AD200 Pro every 24” along that 12’-14’, and within 36” of the subject (with diffusion) to smooth out the shadows. The power after going through the modifier is minimal, so everything has to be dialed. That keeps your creativity, settings, and your subjects (they can’t move) to a narrow channel of good to great lighting. Bring in the AD600 Pro and now you can open up the size of modifier, the flexibility of settings, and your subjects ability to move around. Modifiers tend to be the restrictive part of lighting. If we could just point and blast, you could use anything to light the subject, and as we all eventually get to…that works at the beginning of your career and quickly fades to a need to shape light for every shoot. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

@@358studios Thank you for your awesomeness (and I'm not just brown nosing, okay, just a little, promise). That is very helpful (even for me, the beginner). I'm starting to mount questions for the eventual "purchase", but having little experience - or people I can ask - makes this very helpful. I know you had another response, so I'm going to go read that. Just for fun, one of the individuals I follow from time to time is a photographer/KZfaqr HK Visuals - because he shoots what I would like to shoot (other than wildlife) - dancers/architecture - etc. He was using Broncolor - and recently switched to Godox. He now is using their Parabola 128. I've seen Karl Taylor use these, but his work clearly either pays the bills or he has deep pockets (Phase One, Hass, Broncolor, etc). Product photography is not in my future! Just wondering if you ever tried the Parabolic reflector from Godox, or would see the need for it if it would pay for itself. As in many lighting tools, just words and theoretical diagrams right now. I just need to start and begin to experience how to find soft/hard light when I want it and use the inverse square law to my advantage. Last time I was in Sacramento, it was for my own dance contest (Capital Swing) years ago. One of these days, if I make it back, I'll drop by the studio. Until then, thanks again for being a helpful guidance. I know the answers are in personal practice and experience, but your encouragement makes me even more excited about getting there - and working harder at it. Gracias.

You're very welcome. Unfortunately, I closed the studio in Sacramento and moved to LA. I hated to see it go, but Covid killed it. I still shoot and have been looking to do the same in LA, but progress is slow. Yes, Karl has extremely deep pockets. Don't try to follow his equipment purchases or you'll go broke. :) Parabolics can be tricky. Wading through the marketing hype vs reality is tough. Check out my beauty dish video or Karl Taylor's parabolic video for more. Personally, I'd suggest the soup bowl or rice bowl from Cheetah (QSB-26). Yes, that's what they're called. :) Great collapsible octos that are awesome and super friendly with the Godox system. I may do a video on them soon. Cheers.
@dance2jam
@dance2jam Жыл бұрын
@@358studios Thanks for the heads up (Cheetah - QSB-26). Yes, have no intention of following KT's equipment purchases for many reasons - protect myself from injury, ruin, owning modifiers that are bigger than my knowledge base - just to name a few. I'll certainly drop you a note when you post your next video. Good Luck in LA (danced there as well - well in Woodland Hills to be more accurate). Today, (rainy here) I dug out my SB-700 speedlite and performed my first bracketed 2EV, 3 frame, manual mode camera, manual mode flash (1/64th power), AE Only (Aut-ISO engaged, and set to 280 since -2EV gets me to ISO 64 - which is my base ISO), Self-Timer 2 second delay - for refresh and camera settlement) portrait of my cat. I was shocked when my camera actually only varied the ISO as desired. The resulting 32-bit file made me smile until I found my computer doesn't have the power to edit it in PS in 32 bit ;-) For my first week using "flash/strobes" - was a fun experiment. Now ready to conquer the world...well, at least my living room.
@358studios
@358studios Жыл бұрын
That sounds like fun. I don't know if you have a holder for your SB 700 speed light, but check out this adapter for Bowen mounts. It's compatible with Godox for future AD200 pro use and all Bowen mount modifiers like the cheetah. I have two for my AD200 pros. They would very well. amzn.to/3jp2qew The living room is where we all start. :)

Hey there, this may not be the solution if you're trying to shoot only video. If you're wanting a small (like the size of your phone) video light, here's the one that I'll be buying next: amzn.to/2OM2O3v and if you want an actual small studio light, check out the Godox series starting with the SL60W amzn.to/2E5wHKe. The reason why you can touch the light bulb (not this godox one) because it will break?
@358studios
@358studios Жыл бұрын
Hi Katia, I think you're asking why you can't touch the flash tube/bulb of other units. If so, it's the oil in our skin that coats the glass of the bulb. This causes a temperature variation on the surface of the glass, which as the bulb heats up causes the bulb to crack and break. For unprotected bulbs we still have to use a cloth or tissue paper to replace a blown bulb with a new one. This is also a good practice since cracked bulbs tend to be super sharp and a cut hazard. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers.

Hey Cody, I missed this comment. I think you're asking about the difference between the modeling lamp and the flash bulb (tube). One provides a very small amount of light to focus and see your shot, and the other (flash tube) provides the power to expose your shot.

Hey sorry for the delay. I'm in the middle of moving. So much fun! :) Nope, nothing for sale. Get one though, you'll love it. The difference that I've found between the bulb and Speedlight head, outside of the obvious size, is the focus of the throw. The speedlight head throws a ton forward and off to the sides... wish they'd fix that and the bulb is great for even spread inside of a modifier. I have some videos coming that will show some of that difference. Thanks for commenting and I hope this helps.

Hello. Did your flash work quietly? I have such a micro-click inside the case every 5 seconds. Barely audible. I found a similar problem on KZfaq, where the guy was told by the godox representative that this is how capacitors are refilled in some models and that this is completely normal. For the author of the video with the problem, the flash has been working for 3 years now and nothing. How would it be okay if so, but the sale may be difficult.
@358studios
@358studios 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, my equipment is fairly quiet. There is the usual "pop" when you fire the flash, and the capacitor making some sound when recharging makes sense. There's also the flash tube heating/cooling on every shot and depending on how hot the overall unit is I would guess that there will be multiple sounds audible as you're shooting. All that said, I'm still using the original flash, batteries, and flash tube in my Godox AD200 Pro. For me, other people's opinions (some of these folks don't even own the equipment they claim to know so much about) don't hold as much weight as actual everyday, consistent, reliability. Both of my Godox AD200 Pro's are still running strong. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. By chance, did you subscribe to my channel? :) Have a great day!

@@358studios yes, form factor. I don't think i've ever used my AD400 at full power, so I'm okay with the slightly lower output of the AD300. Thank you for your comments. I would agree that the LCD is not bright in sunlight, and the on/off switch could be more either on or off. That all said, I think the unit provides an excellent value for your money. Why these two things are not an issue for me: I use the wireless trigger, so I'm never referencing the LCD screen, especially when it's on a light stand and not visible. The on/off button is very simple for me. I turn it on and use the wireless trigger. I've never had a unit on top of a stand accidentally turn off and if it did it would be immediately noticeable from the wireless trigger. theme of the day, get the wireless trigger. :)

Why do you think it’s terrible info? It isn’t deeply detailed on how to set it up or use it, but it is not bad info.
