Godox M1, still my favorite video light? 6 months later review

So after my last review, people were asking me to make a review about how the light is to use, examples of where it's used in my work and more of a general oversight into how it is to work with the device. the last review was very specific, going into great details on specs, colours, features etc.
This 6 months later review, looks at how I've gotten on with it and if I'm still happy with it.

Hey Buddy thank you for this review (not so much about the "product" although I just ordered 2 from BH Photo here in the states they are on sale for $69.00) I appreciate your style and the information about the product in real world working situations.... I really hate "Reviews" that just "Unpack" the item and use loud obnoxious music because they have nothing to really say...you are young in age but very old school in thought and approach loved your detailed descriptions of your shoots....Also love your use of glass you have I use many vintage lenses ( however they were not "Vintage" when I bought them 45 years ago) and "use" what works for the shooting environment..... Kudos....I just subscribed to your channel...I would really love if you could share your camera and settings in the future..... not that I need to know for my set ups it is just fun to "know"...... Cheers.....

Thanks for the kind feedback, really appreciate it. I try to really review the product and give examples of how it can be used in different filming scenarios. I am far from a lighting master, but as much as i learn, i try to bring into ym rebiew video. Thanks for the sub. There will be a new review today of the Godox GM55 4k touchscreen display today.

Thank you for the helpful review. It's much better to see it being used in actual shots than hearing someone rambling why he thinks the light is good. Do you recommend a light to use for quick run and gun type videography?
@FosterMedia
@FosterMedia 11 ай бұрын
Thanks, yeah I do actually. Check out my review for the lumipad 25 from nanlite. It's really great, u use my two ALL the time, the setup is so easy, the light is soft, they're compact, run cheap nfp types (plus included ac adapter) for the money there is nothing else so convenient and soft. I absolutely love mine. I actually got them as a sponsor deal for an African charity job I was doing, but if they broke, I'd happily buy two more in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the review. Does it get hot? I was wanting to lay on top of an acrylic sheet lid to photograph freshwater aquarium fish.

Thanks. So it doesn't get hot, It gets mildly warm, but you can always tough it with fingers. So fine for acrylic.

Great video man. Have you used the Andoer W140 RGB light? If so, between this Godox light and the Andoer, which would you stick with?

Can you use the strobe effect with colors or just with white light? And Can you decide how fast/slow the strobe goes?

All those videos are so nice, very helpful and useful. Merci beaucoup ! Just got mine, a few days ago... how the hell can you get this "Godox Light" application to operate ? It keeps searching the M1 light ("searching for fixtures"), but never manages to find any ! I'm running around with no solution, and have to constantly grab the M1 to adjust everything on it. When this Bluetooth feature would help tremendously !

Thanks for this :) Do you have any videos on how you light the yoga lessons? I'm shooting one soon and I'm not sure about the setup
@FosterMedia
@FosterMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Yoga can be tricky depending on where you are and how big of a space you have to work with. You need a wide angle or a lot of space, both create problems. I do alot in small spaces and I use a sigma 18-35 on my Zcam super 35 sensor. Giving me an effective 24mm lens. Then I try to light the sugject as much as possible from a single light, on a boom kinda over the subject, the set some background lights. Also depends on the kinda oga they are doing, I change my lighting depending on the style of yoga and the class that's being given. I don't have a video as of yet, but if it's something that might be usefull for people, I would consider putting one together.
@joas162

@@FosterMedia Thank you, that's helpful. Good point on matching the light with the style of yoga. You don't want a yin class with disco lights haha. When I was practicing I found the framing was kind of difficult. Definitely need a pretty wide angle for the more dynamic standing poses.

How does this compare to the Ulanzi VL120?
@art-vertising
@art-vertising 9 ай бұрын
Yesterday I compared both before buying at the store. Godox is much brighter and it feels very sturdy and professional. Ulanzy feels plastic, like you have to be very careful because it may break. Both have very similar features but I bought Godox M1 over Ulanzi VL120 because it was much brighter and sturdier.

Hi is there a way to use a diffuser on it?
@FosterMedia

Not that im aware of, i would position it behind a diffuser sheet. The built in diffuser material on the light is not so bad too.
