Yugioh has been around for over a decade and has released a ton of cards throughout the years. Some of these cards are great, some not so much and some are right in between. I love that Yugioh explores so many mythologies and religions for their monster designs, but i do hate how only the three Egyptian Gods are the only Divine Beast monsters. It would be great if they expand that typing to boss monsters of other religions and mythologies, like the Nordic Gods or the Earthbound Immortals.

The Earthbound Immortals should definitely stay dark and not divine beast. Other pantheons like the Aesirs, with maybe the exception of Loki, would be cool as divine attribute.

About the vendreads... some problems. Revendread slayer in inspired by the superhero Spawn (and maybe a bit on the punisher, given the "skull" in it's chest). Also the story had some details missing, such as vendread anima's apparition and his (apparent) revival at the end as Revendread Savior. All of this is in the Master Duel solo gate by the way, check it up.

Yeah, although I do see see the RE ties to the archetype, Revendread takes a lot of inspiration from Spawn.

Just in case you don't know, the last card in the darklord vs god series is fallen sanctuary, the darklord did destroy the sanctuary aka heaven and turns the god maiden which you can see in both solemn warning and judgment into darklord capricious and indulged. Also, nastem/mastema did ask for forgiveness to the god, but it was actually a trap set by the Eve, the link darklord, she punished mastena using the corrupted forbidden chalice. Eve is the maiden in the forbidden series(forbidden chalice, lance.etc)

Indeed. Out of all of the different stories and sub-stories in Yugioh, The Forbidden Series is by far my favorite; as it depicts the full story of how the queen of the archetype, "Condemned Darklord" came to be.

I'd argue that the egyptian god cards having exclusive divine-beast typing keeps them iconic & to be used even today more then the "god cards" that came after. It all began in egypt, so it'd make sense if they choose to have the gods reign over the nordic for example in yu-gi-oh. The strongest case to have divine-beast status amongst the others that don't have it are the wicked gods. They originally were created as the actual evil counterparts to the egyptian gods, which all 6 cards share divine-beast type & light attribute. Which is why divine evolution is a card created just for these 6 divine beast cards. After changing the wicked gods to fiend types, divine evolution was changed so that they also be equipped with the wicked god cards as their new types, not just divine beasts. Now with the support divine-beasts have gotten, the wicked gods unfortunately do not share them as their types have changed. So it leaves them with nothing other divine evolution & so the wicked god archetype has only 4 cards. Due to this, there's actually no reason to play wicked gods, when you could play the egyptian gods instead, as they have better effects, more support, far easier to summon & play. Your more likely to best your opponent with the egyptian gods, then wicked gods. The others don't really need them, the wicked gods actually does😂

At 5:40 you mention the wicked gods being lower level than the egyptian gods, however the egyptian gods are also only level 10 monsters

Mr duel logs was referring to Hecate who is lvl 12 as the example. Unfortunately there are other god cards, but that's going to be another video.

Even though the Darklords aren't very good on their own due to how bricky they are, they're easily one of my favorite archetypes in the game for their lore and design alone. And their gameplay, once you get their engine going, is really fun. Fingers crossed for more good support sometime in the future.

@@smoker6683it's mostly despia Despia helps consistency issue that darklord have by being both dark fairy and having ways to summon the first darklord with a negate if you use dramaturge as material. Also since tfd give targeting protection to all fairy and ss any fairy monster from the gy means you can ss archlord krystia which makes it a untargetable vanity ruler Branded only comes in after release of branded fusion where you can reliably mill krystia from the deck while having a non targeting banish with raigeki on float

Agree completely. The edgy goth kid in me loves the archetype but hates how bad it is competitively. We need like 2-3 more good spell/traps, 1-2 low level searchers/free special summons, and more extra deck love. More fusions makes sense since the trap card can fuse but I'd like a strong xyz to go into that isn't a rail cannon

I do wish they fleshed out the Sacred Beasts a bit more in GX, as cool as they are there's not much known about them, let alone _why_ they are considered the shadows of the Egyptian god cards It's also worth mentioning Revendread Slayer dying so he could be with his wife isn't where his story ends, curiously enough. Instead of dying after letting go of his hatred since his task was done, he was reborn as a new being: _Avendread Savior!_ He then dedicated his newly found existence to keeping his city free of crime like the superhero he was destined to become.

Saw a really great theory video that the Sacred Beasts are based on the angels that Moses used to combat the Egyptians during Exodus, hence being named after angelic characters: Uriel, Raviel, Harmon

It’s joked about how in the Battle City arc, Kaiba sacrificed a god to summon the Blue Eyes White Dragon, but in the Millennium World arc the BEWD is referred to as a “White Dragon God” whom the priests see as rivaling the Egyptian Gods. The BEWD is probably based on the D&D interpretation of Bahamut, which in turn was based on the Fish beast Bahamut from Arabic Folklore.). In Yu-Gi-Oh! Falsebound Kingdom , Kaiba’s 3 BEWD are named after angels (Azrael, Jibril (Gabriel), and Iblis).

5:40 if I’m not mistaken the OG Egyptian god trio were also only lv 10 except for the creator god. Edit: yeah they are even earlier in the video they are shown as level 10 lmao Edit 2: Revendred is also a direct spawn reference, from his design to the spell card art of him looking at his locket which happens in Spawn. Also Scar is not unique as he is the arguably biggest reference to Resident Evil overall because he is heavily inspired by Nemesis from RE3 and maybe also Mr X from Re2.

I think it just needs two tweaks and it would be great legacy support. Number one, I think having it activate a spell trap directly from your hand or deck sounds a bit weak, especially since you would still need to pay the cost for the trap cards unless the text was changed to apply the effect. Then change number 2, it would be really good if the card would search a darklord card. Lots of meta field spells help add consistency to decks with that method. Also have you considered how to let the card interact with the mage type darklords? Which effect is applied when this card is targeted? Continous effects are unable to be applied by the monsters.

They destroyed the sanctuary, I don't think the darklord will ever want to recreate sanctuary, they don't want to create the thing they have sworn to destroy.

I approve of this idea. I have many ideas of my own. What would be great is to have something that could protect "The First Darklord" (the ultimtae boss monster of the archetype) from being tossed away by "Super Polymerization." That is the most annoying thing for me. "Forbidden Lance" does the trick, but only for one turn. I like your Field Spell idea. Although, in case you didn't know, "Despia, Theater of the Branded" is already a Field Spell that greatly aids "The First Darklord." This Field Spell allows you to Fusion Summon once per turn. It can be grabbed from your Deck to your hand by "Aluber the Jester of Despia," who is already a DARK Fairy monster needed for First Darklord's summoning. Theater of the Branded also allows you to revive The First Darklord from the GY when another non-Fusion Fairy monster is destroyed by battle or card effect. An excellent Field Spell for the Darklords.

Lore-wise I like to think that EVERY religion in the world of Yugioh (that's almost identical to real one) comes from spirit monsters. Such a concept was described in Huntik (for those Canadian people who knows it) where ancient creatures were mistakenly revered as deities or the like. Ra, Osiris and Obelisk weren't but VERY powerful monsters, yet Egyptian people thought they were actual gods, so it'd make sense if indian people thought the same about Choju, Manju and Senju for example, or German people about Santa Claws.

Bonus trivia, asmodeus can be special summoned, but only from the hand or from the banished zone. Meaning you can combo him with allure of darkness and another banish zone special summoning card.

About Darklord 1. Marie is the key morningstar went Rebel 2. There are 3 kind of Darklord. The original Darklord, the fallen angel Darklord, and the fallen maiden Darklord 3. Zerato only have 1 way journey based on Darklord lore. Bad > good > broken

I'm surprised you included Revendread Slayer instead of Cyber Angel Vrash (originally Cyber Angel Vishnu because of censorship) or the Nepthys winged beast series or the Shinobird Ritual monsters who are based on Japanese folklore lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi; they're both more directly linked to divine figures in religions and or mythology

Earthbound immortal Wiracocha Rasca is based in Apu Kon Tiqsi Viracocha, the supreme god of the incan mithology. The others EI included Rasca are based in the Nazca lines in Peru.

I think the reason the Divine type is so exclusive is that Konami didn't want it to be official in the game, until they released legal copies of the Egyptian God cards, at that point most of the other divine-like monsters have been released already. They probably considered changing the Divine type to be the same as their Sacred Beast counterparts, but that would've upset the fans.

1. I think my Favorite Story is the Story of the "World Legacy" Cards which is said by Master Duel what starts and ends nicely 2. In Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel exists a Story (in the Solo-Mode/Story-Mode) that tells the Story around the Revendread Slayer amd the Story was basically that what he said in the Video but i thubk it exists in the Master Duel Story more little details around his Story what is pretty Nice (As Example one of the Monsters Copy the Look of his Childhood Friend (or his GF) and this made him Amgry because this Creature was palying with him then he looked on a Photo in a Amulet like thing and this gives him the Motivation and Power to fight the Illusion)

Quick note: Superbia isn't just latin, it's also italian meaning that the world actually exists in a living language. It's also possibly another reference to Lucifer, since pride is considered the root of all capital vices and the reason for his fall.

Pretty sure Avendread Savior is the end of the Revendread lore. Also, there's some very clear Spawn inspiration in Revendread. I'm biased, but I want to see some dinosaur monsters covered. Could be the names of Dinowrestlers being a combination of their respective dinosaur and a particular fighting style, Pankratops being pankration and Triceratops for example, the many monsters inspired by tyrannosaurs, or the monsters based on lesser known species like Kentrosaurus, Therizinosaurus, and Diplodocus.

Revendread Slayer is also inspired by Spawn If we talk about more entities and gods, also add the Outer Entitys (Azathot, Nyarla, Cthugua). Also the Cubic Monsters, which are based on various deities of Hinduism

Vendreads being so bad is a travesty with how cool they are, the disappointing part is how close they are to being playable. If the "inheritance" effect didn't require them to be in field or was OPT and the lv3+ zombies universally specialed themselves from Hand/GY by sending a vendread from Hand or field there'd be a case for them being atleast playable.

I am planning to make the ultimate Vendread deck and make Vendreads one of the most feared decks to ever play against. I wanted Vendreads to be at the very top of the meta. Even if it means combining it with the Eldlich cards.

I am thrilled that I'm starting to see more videos and forums online talking about my favorite archetype, the Darklords! Yes, my favorite, "The First Darklord," wasn't mentioned in this video, although TheDuelLogs has either mentioned and/or shown "The First Darklord" in a couple of other videos in the past if I remember correctly.

@@matthew-harryproductions ah also I’m very happy that the Darklord archetype has been getting more love. Now if only the character who uses the Darklord in the Yugioh GX manga Midori Hibiki, could get more love since her duel against Reggie MacKenzie was what made this archetype my favourite.

In the Anime Slifer The Sky Dragon Is A Dragon Type, U can see how Yugi wins because of Buster Blader Effect, Slifer counted as Dragon with Buster Blader Effect.

I asked Chatgpt to do an archetype based on apostles, thoughts 1. As someone that plays Darklords a lot... The ones that aren't based on Judeo-Christian theology is Ixchel, Tezcatlipoca, Zerato, Capricious , Condemned, and Indulged. Though, the last four characters I mentioned come from other cards, not other mythologies like Ixchel and Texcatlipoca are (they're from Aztec/Mayam mythology). Of course, Ixchel is mentioned in the video. Pretty sure Vendread is a cross between Resident Evil, Prototype, and Spawn, but whatever.

Condemned is eve, the last card from the darklord series is fallen sanctuary. You see, they actually managed to defeat God and turns all of his maiden into darklord. This is Japanese franchise, where you can defeat a god with the power of friendship, in darklord's case the power of hatred.

Capricious and indulged are the maiden in the solemn warning and solemn judgment, eve turns them into a darklord right after she and lucifer conquered the sanctuary. As for zerato, he is non Canon in the story. He is on different timeline where he did become an archlord but he betray the sanctuary later and destroy it, zerato and angel of zera are different timelines.

I like your thoughts, but this card sadly does not nearly as much as you'd hope. You first need to commit a normal summon to even get the field spell ( which sadly isn't a good field). Then it can act as a multi tribute for lvl 10+ (which is good) but it would demand a special summon or you couldn't take advantage of the tribute set up without your opponent killing it next turn. Even if you did the previous and special summoned it, the effects it gives is too much for a single level 2. The effects aren't nearly strong enough to make them feel better using this, lp gain doesn't really matter, lowering atk by 500, and then the tribute summon effect doesn't help as much because if you wanted to use this card's 2 or 3 tribute summon effect, you're at most making obelisk have 5000 each, ra uses his lp drain and becomes 8999 (from full) and slifer becomes hand x 1000 +1000 . Sorry for long comment.

Small nitpick but the Sacred Beasts aren’t mentioned in Yugioh R, as they make their first appearance in the GX anime (they don’t appear in the manga). They also aren’t listed as being a divine attribute, as they seemingly don’t have an attribute in the anime (at the very least, their attribute is not shown on their physical cards, for some reason the wiki lists this as them being divine but I’m not sure why, this is never shown to the audience afaik). I’m not sure if their type is ever disclosed either, as I don’t read Japanese, but they don’t seem to have one.

Top 10 Archetypes with the most support. I think Heroes would be #1, but I wonder what the other 9 would be. I feel like Blackwing would be top 3 with just the sheer amount of monsters they got.
