Hello, my name is Felix, and I am from Germany, so I may not have understood everything. So if it should be double, just ignore. But I have also discovered the "intellectual life" for me as equal to nature. Many say they discover God in the beauty of nature - I think you can also discover him in the beauty of reason, logic, science ... always provided that this does not become an end in itself: A tree is not God and so a theologian - like Joseph Ratzinger / Pope Benedict - and his works are not God. But they - the beauty of nature and the beauty of intellectual life - help me to come closer to the glory of God. God bless you all!

In summary of this podcast episode: Bonaventure and Gregory agree that the name Fr. Bonaventure is a solid name like iron whereas Fr. Gregory's name is more like Morse code. Another point made was to make intellectual study part of your weekly routine. 5 minutes a day or 30 minutes a week can be enough. And if you don't have a classroom, punish the people you love by teaching them; or send an email to the abyss. This way you can solidify your understanding of what was learned.

Gooday Fr Bonaventure and Fr Gregory Maria. What a humoristic but interesting start to your podcast. St Bonaventure OFM was an Italian scholastic theologian and philosopher. Fr Bonaventure you definitely have a name after a great Saint. I have a devotional prayer, by St Bonaventure, for after receiving Holy Communion ....."Let my heart ever hunger after You and feed upon You...." (very short extract of the prayer). This prayer reminds me of St Augustine's prayer "Ever Ancient Ever New". Fr Gregory Maria definitely sounds better than Gregory Mary. I really enjoyed your podcast; very stimulating and informative. The intellectual life reflects on the Dominicans preaching, e.g homilies which nourish our souls, heart and mind. 🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏

During the past few years l read much Russian literature. Also absorbed much Tolkien. I became so aware of the effects of original sin. I do not want to become wordy. But well written literature reveals so much about what motivates us to either cooperate will God's grace or refuse it.

It's a powerful thing to consider that we should uphold the truth above all, because that is meant to ultimately lead us to God.

Playing catch up with the Godsplaining Podcasts. Thank God for you all. As a dyslexic and lazy person reading is not one of my strong points but you guys certainly have been blessed with graces to encourage me to use my intellect more to grow with Jesus Christ. You give sound practical advice how to nurture and grow the seeds of study in my faith which certainly enhances my love of God Our Lady our beautiful faith. I hope you had a good Christmas and here's to a great 2023 learning to serve our faith for the love of God and our neighbours. Thank you

Don’t call yourself lazy as if it’s an identity, it’s only a changeable habit. Also, there are lots of very famous intelligent dyslexic people so don’t discount yourself cause of that. Have a great day Veronica! I think the fact that you listening to this podcast showcases your innate curiosity and an active “life of the mind”.

curiosity induces us but, left alone, can be undisciplined indulgence of mental appetite. Study adds structure and brings about formation in us.

Really enjoyable episode. I have one curiosity. I am struggling with pursuing intellectual studies, because I feel like I might be provoking my ego into a feeling of superiority or that I should be putting that level of intellectual understanding to a more "useful" thing instead of a just an enjoyable pursuit. Any ideas as to how to get around this?

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction (Pr. 1:7). The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight (Pr. 4:7). An intelligent mind acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge (Pr. 18:15). The sayings of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings which are given by one Shepherd. My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is weariness of the flesh. The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep His commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil (Eccl. 12:11-14).
