I remember seeing Minus One with a buddy I’ve known since elementary school days. He used to make fun of the franchise and had nothing good to say. After seeing Minus One, he turned to me and said “that was the best Godzilla movie,” and I responded “this is literally the only one you’ve ever seen.” That’s sort of how I see these bandwagon fans.

They are getting very annoying. Was the movie absolutely amazing? Yes. But if someone's excited for GXK u dont gotta damper their excitement by whining about how much better minus one is. For the last 70 years we have been getting both interpretations of Godzilla BACK TO BACK one movie destroying humanity next movie dancing and fighting giant monsters. Why is this so hard to accept now?

Not sure if these are newer or older fans; regardless I get the impression they're latching on to Minus One because it's the first film in the franchise to be universally praised. They want their big monster movie to be validated and seen as art. I'm happy for the film's accolades and wide appreciation but I'll always prefer to WWE-esque brawls. Between Toho and Legendary making their own movies with the character we have endless opportunities to see all sorts of interpretations of Godzilla on screen, everyone should be happy. Also, most of these kids who want to complain about the MV haven't even seen half of the Godzilla filmography. If you're going to trash Godzilla vs Kong you better be able to hold a conversation about Ebirah, Horror of The Deep.

As a huge Godzilla fan and massive collector I can get behind this message 100%. But it's not necessarily Minus One fans but rather just Toho elitist fans. They were the same way when Shin Godzilla came out. They were the same way when Singular Point came out. Anytime Japan makes Godzilla they love it. Anytime America makes Godzilla they hate it. Despite the fact that if it hadn't been for the Monsterverse Shin and Minus One wouldn't even exist.

Minus one is a great movie and I'm glad i took my son to go see it in the theater with me. That being said i still think shin godzilla is still the best standalone goji movie.. my all time favorite is godzilla vs biollante but shin is my favorite one off godzilla by a very large margin

Toxic fans are in every franchise. it's a sad truth. However, we must not let them define a franchise or a character in the franchise in this case. That being said, we can't compare Monsterverse and -1. They are two different takes of the kaiju. One is trying to be basically a 21st-century gojira 1954, while Monsterverse takes the fun, imaginative approach like a modernized Showa goji. But at the end of the day, people are vain and petty, and we'll always have toxic fans trying to micromanage a franchise from their redit pages.

I love goji and -1, yet i do agree that extreme fans of -1 and other goji films do exist. as with everything, the fanbases tend to sometimes get out of hand. I hope our community does not feed that hubris. Afterall Goji has many messages, one of them being mankind's hubris. Pride is good but too much becomes a problem, thats literally how we got Goji, from tragedy born from a empire's pride that driven their nation to destruction. Its good to be humble humans, learn from that lesson. Do not become like twitter.

Godzilla Minus One is definitely a good movie, and portrays Godzilla in the good ol' villainous style, but it's not the best...It isn't really THAT perfect, sure the designs and how it goes is amazing, but it's not the best ever Godzilla Movie. (Shin Godzilla negs btw)

As someone who enjoys Minus One over the Monsterverse, I say you're right in some aspects but wrong in others. No, u didn't need to be harassed for your views on this franchise for which movie you like the best, no the people who were making you feel bad shouldn't have done that and it does make the fan base look more toxic. but people who like Minus One over the Monsterverse are not coming from a place of spite it's coming from a place of love/concern for the franchise, we love a silly goofy action movie more than anyone in the world but there comes a point in the time where that can't be the only factor that you come out the movie theater with. I can go to Die Hard and say that was a fun action movie but then that's not the only thing I say about the movie there are great characters that made me laugh made me cry and made me feel the whole Spectrum, what we as fans of -1 are trying to say we just want good characters that we can feel the whole spectrum of there could be deep characters that could be characters that are silly and there could be characters that just there to be who they need to make them interesting. I know a lot of people are going to say well look at the shower era they didn't have interesting characters and you're right the characters were interesting they were deep but yet you remember them and even though they weren't deep they were a representation of people who you knew in real life. Which is why they are remembered, Even with Godzilla - 1 you say it's not a good Godzilla movie which I disagree with it's a perfect Godzilla movie that balances out human drama with monster action because the humans are reacting to Godzilla. They are not plot devices, they are not here to talk about science or communication devices to kaiju, and they're not boring Cannon's father to get to the monster action, they're real-life people who enter a world where monsters exist and they try to adapt to this fact. Something I thought the monster verse was going to do is to have these monsters appear one by one in Solo movies and have the secret government agency try to create weapons to counteract these monsters Building A Mystery over time as to who let these monsters out and where they come from. Something that leads to a bigger story Also, you compare the monster verse to Marvel and I would say that's a fair comparison because both of them have chosen to be comedic movies you can look at the box office and it's slowly starting to go down for the monster verse. With only one movie being at its highest and that's Kong Skull Island, you said that the story of the monster verse has yet to be told but can you tell me right now where is the story leading??? Because for as someone who followed the monster and the universe from the beginning looked at every behind-the-scenes clip you can think of and read articles where they talk about it there is no overarching story to this universe and hoping that it sticks. We were told that in Kong Skull Island the skull crawlers ran the Kongs down to Extinction, we were also told that Godzilla had in hand in that Extinction, but it to be false and that the Kong species is alive and thriving well under this new king that somehow can control the monsters which retcon everything we learned about the monsters so far. in the comic that was connected 2/204 stated that Godzilla was inactive and he was in hibernation until King of the Monsters only for that to be retcon by Monarch Legacy of Monsters where Godzilla was pretty active. To me there was no story to unfold it was more like they were letting filmmakers tell separate stories and just trying to figure out how to make them stick

I mean, it was already critically acclaimed. It actually was the best one. Let people be happy about it for a bit, for like 10 years we have had some awful Godzilla movies(not including Godzilla 2014) not to mention just all-around terrible movies for the last year and a half. let them be passionate about it, let it get attention. You need to remember this was a separate movie from the American-made Godzilla movies

I'm in the middle. I don't think -1 is a perfect mastercraft of film. But I do think it and Shin Godzilla are two of the best Godzilla Movies ever. I personally don't like 'action' movies, I like my movies to have depth and some kind of plot that can be described beyond what physically takes place in the movie. As much as ppl say Pacific Rim is "just a fun movie that knows what ppl really want from a Kaiju flick" the real reason it's good is because the characters actually give it a good story. I do think King of the Monsters is the best "showa styled" movie of Monsters fighting, but mostly because there are people who carry the *story* and actually provide context to the plot and expand on it beyond "Godzilla fights King Ghidorah". 2014 is a 'bad' Godzilla movie not because it has a story and humam characters, but because the story is actually just bland and uninteresting fundamentally. The cool fight at the end doesn't fix it because it never could because a good fight doesn't make a good movie. This is why I don't like Godzilla x Kong and don't have high hopes for the next Monsterverse movies because it feels like yeah, it feels like the point is just fights with terrible half-assed story put in he middle just because.

If they could leave out humans in the Monsterverse, i would be very happy....😅😅

Tbh Im mid about the Monsterverse because im not a big fan of Godzilla not beiing an horror movie idk why but i enjoy godzilla beiing an actual horror story And Monsterverse is fine it has amazing visual effects and monster designs also it has amazing fights like Mechagodzilla vs Godzilla and kong Kong vs Skullcrawler abd Godzilla vs King Ghidorah but theres just something about Godzilla beiing an horror movie that i just love i haven't watched Godzilla minus one yet and im not too intrested watching that movie cus im not a big fan of Godzilla franshice i like the Godzilla franshice but Transformers is more of my thing
