35:45 I somewhat get that people were irritated by Shin Godzilla, but the core message of the movie is the direct criticism of the borderline dysfunctional Japanese government that is crippled by its bureaucracy. I thought using the Godzilla setting for this kind of message was just brilliant.
@yungoldman2823
@yungoldman2823 7 ай бұрын
frankly, if you didnt like shin godzilla “because it had too many meetings” you literally didnt get the movie. which isn’t necessarily an insult even, its a dense movie thats primarily subtext tying together the Japaneses’ history with nuclear weaponry and the real world recent incident at Fukushima, and governmental response to said incidents, and all the faults that lie within a system made of too many checks and balances, and what happens when its pushed to its breaking point. Its not great for people who just want to see the legendary version of godzilla AKA big monsto punch big other monsto

This is always the reply I see in regards to the pacing of shin. I think it kind of assumes the people that don’t like it are ignorant to the point of the movie. Just because there’s a warranted political criticism baked in does not make the pacing any less dreadful and those scenes any more anchored to a sense of real stakes. By the 10 minute mark of on screen meeting you get the point and yet it is repeatedly dwelled on in the same way. The characters don’t end up aggravating viewers as intended but the screenplay does instead.
@Telcontar86

I recognize Shin's strengths, and how it was made specifically to criticize the Japanese government. But come on, there are reasons to dislike the movie and still understand the message. For example, the pacing of Shin Godzilla as a whole is an absolute wreak. Anyone can't recognize that the film _slams_ to a stop after the Sea of Fire scene is in denial.
@FranticFoxBass
@FranticFoxBass 7 ай бұрын
@@Telcontar86 dude I absolutely agree, I just said I somewhat get that people are bored by it but that I thought it's brilliant that they used the Godzilla backdrop for criticism of local politics. It totally worked for me, including the pacing, but I will never deny anyone else's feelings over a movie. The reason why I wrote my comment in the first place was that I got the impression that Shin's core message was overlooked or at least not contextualized by Alex at the timestamp I mentioned.

So heartwarming to see two brothers get along so well. Reminds me of my grandfather and his brother, they grew up on a farm back in the 1930’s but as the war approached things got rough. The winters were cold and unforgiving and things got worse and worse. One year things got so bad they called their yield the Blue Harvest which is coincidentally the working title of the original Star Wars Movie.

This opening had me laughing so hard, I had to focus extra hard on driving home. Just got back from Godzilla Minus One, in preparation for this episode. It may be THE GREATEST Godzilla entry in a long time. Most of the action takes place on the water, with Godzilla taking on very outmatched ships, which gives it a Dunkirk-meets-Jaws scenario. Godzilla is absolutely terrifying, and I was legitimately stressed during every encounter. See it IMAX if you have the opportunity.

Wasn't Disney just throwing the Director of The Marvels under the bus two weeks ago, saying she wasn't even in the editing booth for the film and had already moved on to new projects? I also like Godzilla depiction as more of an empathetic monster. According to the lore, in this film, the reason he's attacking humans is he knows theyre responsible for using the bomb on him. Theres also the earlier scene where he doesnt act very aggressive to the mechanics at first. He only gets aggressive when they aggrevate him. It just feels like he's a wild animal who has gone in a flight response, and having affect of a nuclear bomb has put that into overdrive.

I saw a Japanese commentator's video here on KZfaq who highlighted the black vein-like thing that was on Noriko's neck at the end of the movie. He suggested that they could be G-Cells, which are emitted from Godzilla himself and can cause mutations, and even the person to become a monster titan themselves. Apparently this theory is supported by a comic book written by the director of this movie himself. So, the future might not be bright for Noriko in a potential sequel.

I'm so glad you guys watched this. As a fan, I'm so glad this movie exists, because it's a good movie that is accessible to everyone even if they're not fans of the material. I hope it does as well as Shin Godzilla, if not better. Regarding the budget, along with what Maso said about having a clear vision of what you want helps, but also having the director be familiar with and being the vfx director like Gareth Edwards was on 'The Creator'. I also was proud of how much they were able to do with a smaller budget, but I hadn't thought about how there are reports of various industries in Japan where people are worked to the bone with essentially what is a stipend. Thank you. It's something I want to bring up in discussions I have about the movie. While the budget may be more, I don't think it's anywhere near the big blockbusters here.

Spoiler spoiler spoiler for Godzilla But at the end Noriki isn't just fine, I don't think. She's a bit colder than you'd expect given the reunion that's happening remaining rather stone faced. She also has a black spot that they show just peeking out from under her collar on the back of her neck. It's got little veiny bits running out and isn't the focus of the shot, just on the side. Then they cut from that to the remains of godzilla regenerating. I think that she has a bit of g-cells attached to her that rebuilt her. They mentioned after Ginza was attacked that there are just chunks of godzilla mixed into the rubble and no one knows exactly what they're made of, but what ever it is is crazy radioactive.

I just want to point out that Japan put out 28 Godzilla movies where it’s literally just a man in a suit. Shin Godzilla was the first movie where it wasn’t a guy in a costume (Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) dabbled with CGI, but it was only for certain scenes iirc), so I highly doubt Toho was concerned with impressing western audiences. I think they just wanted to make a movie that looked really fantastic. If there had to be a specific reason, my guess would be that they wanted it to be good enough to rival the MonsterVerse Godzilla visuals because they knew that both versions of Godzilla would be compared without a doubt, but beyond that I don’t think they care about what western audiences think. And I thank God for that, because I was able to grow up with the cheesiest, most amazing movies ever put to film lmao. Oh, btw, that Godzilla movie that Maso is talking about where Godzilla kills Godzilla ‘98 in one punch (1:08:34) is Godzilla: Final Wars. Such a great, goofy movie lol.

SPOILER WARNING My dumb arse thinking its minus one cause its a Prequel to shin Shin Godzilla being part 1 Godzilla 2023 being part -1 I literally felt chills go down my spine many times, the synergy between Godzilla‘s rampage and the human characters is phenomenal. It’s like the perfect recipe when they have a slasher movie that you has all the characters being likable I definitely love how they upgraded Godzilla’s atomic blast, definitely gives off BFG 9000 vibes compared to before Hell, you got my thumb blokes.

Been a fan for maybe 8 years? Whenever that animation of Batman vs Superman went up. Devastated as a KZfaq boy that I wasn’t the top listener but what do you expect. You dog avocado

Is it just me who had the thought of Godzilla furiously paddling his fat legs under the surface treading water? Like how a swan does it?

Surely they don't think superhero films will ever be as consistent as the phase 1 films again financially? They performed that well since they were all new-- until we have mainline Avengers films again, most aren't gonna care. Avengers 5 and 6 will perform way better than anything else these past couple of phases just by virtue of them being "main" movies. Of course Shang Chi or the Marvels aren't billion dollar events, they aren't suplosed to be. The Marvels is my favourite Marvel movie followed by Strange 2 🤷🏾‍♂️ not everything is meant for everyone, but it's for someone

The problem is that the studios spend too much on these movies for them to not be four quadrant films that appeal to everyone.

@@BaithNa Impossible to cater to everyone consistently. Make art, however niche, and it will find a large audience outside of the core intended. Or make generic crap lol. Madame Web vs Into the Spiderverse
