In theaters May 16, 2014.
In Summer 2014, the world's most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures unleash the epic action adventure "Godzilla." From visionary new director Gareth Edwards ("Monsters") comes a powerful story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature, when the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenseless.
Gareth Edwards directs "Godzilla," which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Kick-Ass"), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe ("The Last Samurai," "Inception"), Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche ("The English Patient," "Cosmopolis"), and Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn ("Good Night, and Good Luck.," "The Bourne Legacy") and Bryan Cranston ("Argo," TV's "Breaking Bad").

I feel like this movie would've been immensely better if the tone was more like Shin and the original in that Humanity was solely fighting him instead of involving the MUTO's and making him a "hero" as he crushes and kills people. The Trailer certainly oozes this.
@mach7te
@mach7te 2 жыл бұрын
@@Armageist 100% agree with you. One of my biggest and only problems with Godzilla 2014 is that the MUTOs received too much screentime. They probably had more than Godzilla himself. If they took them out of the movie and brought Godzilla back to his original roots as a giant, unstoppable, rampaging monster, then the 2014 film would probably be one of the greatest in the entire franchise.
@BaldPerspective
@BaldPerspective 2 жыл бұрын
@@mach7te I feel you homies on that, but I don't wanna see a copy of Gojira--it's a deeply-moving film about a family as well as the secrets that are tearing it apart. Shin Godzilla worked because it wasn't that, it was a scathing political satire. Besides, Godzilla was giant & unstoppable in this movie, they just made him more of an animal than a monster, which hadn't been done that much at the time.

It hits all the right notes keeping you enticed without spoiling anything, it always invokes a haunting feeling inside of you, it still sticks with you if you were lucky enough to see it back in 2013 - it's everything that makes a teaser an ACTUAL TEASER. In 2013, I was sitting on the third row of my theater. My dad, my two older brothers, and I were all waiting for the Man of Steel movie we'd gone out to see to start playing. We had arrived early to see the trailers...and that's when this masterpiece played. I was, and still am a huge Godzilla fan, but at the time, I had assumed the franchise was gone forever, with Final Wars being the last movie to be released...and I was okay with that. The series had gone out with a bang, so it was natural there wouldn't be anymore after that. ...And when I tell you that I was SHOOK when I saw this in the dark cinema for the first time, that would be an understatement. I remember watching this over and over when it first came out, trying to piece together what little info I could. Being awestruck by the sheer scale of Godzilla, being so huge the camera couldn't fit all of him on screen. 9 years later and this still holds up.

People are complaining that the trailer didn't represent the film very well... You sure you didn't watch a completely different movie? There were so many scenes in the movie which were full of awe or were terrifying since we got it from the point of view of the people. Do you not remember how eerie it was seeing Godzilla emerge from a cloud of smoke, and you see his silhouette when lighting strikes, or how about the scene where his foot crashes down in the airport which made everyone turn silent. I loved this movie, it became my favourite movie as soon as i saw it, and it still is today.

you are right! the cinematography was excellent!! BUT where I believe it failed was in the story telling. I really was looking forward to more of the discussions of the arrogance of man as was shown in one of the trailers. jurassic park handled those topics very well and added much depth to the story and action. a sense of uneasy realism that seeps into our minds despite dinosaurs or godzilla not existing.

I can see why they chose this scene for the teaser, it remains one of the best in the movie (a reboot done right in my opinion). Not only does it use the "aria" from Kubrick's 2001 (used both times to signify humans being made to feel crushingly small in the face of the unknown) but the metaphorical imagery is amazing. Kick-Ass looks into the sun as if it were the eye of God itself, then willingly dives out of Heaven into the depths of Hell. They are Guardian Angels sent to do battle with Leviathan, and from the looks of Godzilla at the end, they are completely fucking outmatched...

I am a life long Godzilla fan and this trailer gave me chills back when it was new. Even now it really does a good job of pulling you in. That music used from the Monolith in 2001 is always unnerving. And that long jump right at the start, then piercing the clouds into a ruined city, all while you think, "What could have done this?!" Then that final silhouette to really sinch the whole thing together. I mean we had no idea at this point if Godzilla was humanity's ally or enemy.

For those who don't know what a halo jump I'll explain. Ok usually when you are about to go into battle like a major battle if you saw the smoke that means that major is about to happen also High-altitude military parachuting (or military free fall (MFF)) is a method of delivering personnel, equipment, and supplies from a transport aircraft at a high altitude via free-fall parachute insertion. Two techniques are used: HALO (high altitude - low opening) and HAHO (high altitude - high opening). In the HALO technique, the parachutist opens his parachute at a low altitude after free-falling for a period of time, while in the HAHO technique, the parachutist opens his parachute at a high altitude just a few seconds after jumping from the aircraft. HALO techniques date back to 1960 when the U.S. Air Force was conducting experiments that followed earlier work by Colonel John Stapp in the late 1940s[1] through early 1950s on survivability factors for high-flying pilots needing to eject at high altitudes. In recent years, the HALO technique has been practiced by civilians as a form of skydiving. HALO is used for delivering equipment, supplies, or personnel, while HAHO is generally used only for personnel. In typical HALO/HAHO insertions, the troops are dispatched from altitudes between 15,000 feet (4,600 m) and 35,000 feet (11,000 m).[

Seeing this trailer in the theater is something I may never forget. I even remember the emotional journey I went on watching it, I initially kinda zoned out cause the first shot makes it look like another over serious military boy movie, and as it goes on it just kept hooking me and hooking me, until the end where they hit you with that roar and it nearly blew my ears out, cause the rest is so relatively quite. 10/10 this is art in and of itself.

nerdsman567 What were you expecting? Godzilla destroying man kind? He doesn't do that, he fights other monsters...I loved it. I would have liked a little more screen time for Godzilla, but I understand why they didn't, less is more. They'll correct that mistake in the second movie. Honestly, it was weird they killed off Brian Cranston's character. I feel if he was the main human character and Godzilla had a little more screen time...this would have been considered the best Godzilla movie to date.

DaveyMurray1 You know what? I'm getting really goddamn tired of people defending this movie with the whole "Less is More" bullshit! I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but the fact that fans have to act so forgiving with this movie has been irritating me ever since this movie first came out! And every time I try to give the film the benefit of the doubt, I'm constantly reminded about its flaws and that it's not as good as it could have been. It's times like that that make me regret ever getting hyped for this movie in the first place. I find it amazing how even though Godzilla 2014 addressed all the problems established with Godzilla 1998, it still manages to conjure up new problems for people to harp on. I feel as if the people who made G2014 only cared about planning for the future sequels rather than being concerned about the film right in front of their faces. All I can say is, "Godzilla 2018" better be worth the goddamn wait or else I will absolutely HATE Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures for the rest of my life; even more so than Roland Emmerich! I'm so sorry for lashing out like this, but this movie has left me very frustrated for over a year now. I feel as if Hollywood doesn't give two shits about Godzilla franchise and that its fans are completely worthless. I have never had a movie make me feel so worthless and embarrassed to be a fan in my entire life. I keep wishing and praying that Legendary will come out with the "Extended Cut" for G2014 they supposedly announced shortly after the film's release, but no news has come up about it. It feels like they really don't care about catering to the Godzilla fan community. We're all completely worthless in Hollywood's eyes :(

nerdsman567 at least this Godzilla is better than the lizard one from 1998, it has some attacks from japanese Godzilla like Tail Attack and the athomic breath that 1998 Godzilla doesn't have, japanese Godzilla had less time in Terror of MechaGodzilla where he appeared just to face MechaGodzilla and Titanossaurus and leave after defeating them, the Godzilla 2014 was inspired on Terror of MechaGodzilla, I think

I was expecting something vastly different. I suppose the point of a trailer is to ultimately get people into the theaters to watch it, but then doesn't that mean the studio didn't think people would be excited about the actual film and decided to feed them something else?

I don't understand why most people hated it. Although it wasn't the best action/sci-fi movie compared to the other options available, Godzilla wasn't too terrible as reviewed. 1. Godzilla's appearance. Yes, Godzilla got a little screen time as hoped but it was for a valid reason. The movie portray Godzilla as nature's weapon against enormous creature. Its a basic logic of food chain. There can only be one predator who can be dominant. Godzilla, who had stayed dominant for years, needs to establish his power. Thus, acts like a predator, tracking his prey and coming in for the sneak attack. Of course he is not going to get a lot of screen time! He being late for the party makes him adds more to his bad-ass character. 2. As for the characters, I felt that it was imperative that they kill off the scientist. In most sci-fi movies, it is the crazy maniac that drives the plot and the search for the solution to the conflict. The father dying was important for the son to gain closure and understanding of the truth of the creatures. Plus, because of his death, the story line became more original. It became a story of a soldier trying to get home to his family in midst of a crisis. He was willing to do whatever it takes to do so. Everyone else were simply bystanders to nature's course. 3. Military's failure to learn their lesson. The Japanese scientist mentioned that man's arrogance is that they think they can control/dominate nature. This movie depicts that very arrogance. They don't trust what they don't know. They use whatever they have at their disposal to take care of a threat. They think they are powerful enough to take care of any threat. Thus, they continue to do stupid mistakes because they are incapable of thinking beyond their ego and understanding that their power is limited compared nature. Their mistakes and put into positions where they are powerless was to show how little we are compared to the forces of nature. Overall, I thought the movie did an okay job of displaying the theme- humans are not as powerful as they seem to be. Nature can take care of itself and should not be tampered with. Switching the perspective from a scientist searching for answers to a soldier. It made the movie original. A soldier trying to get to his family added a more human element to the mix which made it all the more enjoyable. The action sequences were intense and never a let down. The ending where Godzilla collapses out of exhaustion was realistic and I'm glad they added it. The movie was not a complete letdown as made out to be.

Misleading trailer and monster teasing, incaes the tease from the posters and trailers weren't enough, they still teased in this movie. and the characters were poor even thought the director kept saying that Its gonna be very faithful to the original 1954 film and the human characters are gonna be good in this and that but they weren't. Don't get me wrong I thought the movie is OK, but It could have been so much better. Hope in vein the sequel does that.

I loved Pacific Rim because of its light-heartedness and spectacle, and still do. But Godzilla on the other hand, DESTROYED light-heartedness and amplified the spectacle a thousandfold.

Apocalyptic masterpiece. This film felt like watching the last days on planet Earth. It really felt like punishment is coming upon humanity. Also, cinematography of this film is👌🏻
