what makes this more adorable is that in the Novel it tells how kong was feeling during this scene “he was fascinated that Godzilla calmed down when he saw Mothra and seemed to know her, even tho kong didn’t know her he didn’t feel threatened, he saw that Mothra was able to actually talk to him despite HIS efforts trying to speak with him, he saw how Godzilla seemed very peaceful when Mothra spoke to him, he felt like they were "family" despite not being the same species.”

Godzilla (2014) there was a moment late in the movie when a building fell on him and he fell with it, he locked eyes with the MC (forgot his name), very "humanizing" moment if you will. As well as in KOTM when he got up close to the submarine face to face with the people on it and when Serizawa planted the nuke and walked up to touch him. Granted 2 of these moments he was injured but they made it the point to connect him with humans.

This was one of the best reunification stories told in such a short span of time, but did anyone notice how Godzilla acknowledged Jia (making her the third or fourth human he directly acknowledged) before looking to Mothra? I've talked about people over-analyzing Godzilla's intelligence, but he knows humans exist. He knows the role they play in the balance he protects. And he knows how courageous they can be when they stand before him alone. The look to Mothra after read like he was confirming what he saw in Jia with her.

He came up between the NAVY firing rockets, as it was called out that civilians were on the bridge, but he came up just before those rockets hit, So, He has been aware of them, he just knows that it cannot be helped.

And yeah, I had those scenes in mind when writing my comment. I never bought him intentionally saving the civilians on the bridge (especially the rumors that Monarch: LOM changed the context for that scene), but he shared a very knowing look with Ford. And again with Dr. Serizawa in KOTM.

The novels and tie in comics make it very clear. Godzilla is fully sentient and thinks in first person as well as what is best for the titans and humanity as a hole. Humans as an individual mean little to him but humans as a species matter.

Mothra is the Ying in Godzilla's Yang. She is the one that keeps Godzilla cool headed and calm, after she died in KOTM, Godzilla became exponentialy more violente, with destroying citys in GVK to killing other Kaiju because of minor inconveniences, like Tiamat in GXK. Now that she is back Godzilla might become more calm again. We can see in this scene that the moment Godzilla saw Mothra his eyes softened.
