@Constitutional Remunerations yeah, I honestly think the guys see how excited Andre gets about something as he's jumping up and down and giggling and they just say "OK buddy, we'll get that one" lol. It reminds me of, me when i want something really bad😆 Its probably all the same to the other guys anyhow no matter what truck they get. Honestly, it was the right choice imo. A lot of people want to know how this engine stacks up. That's the truck i would've picked.

Where the 7.3 is going to crush it is in medium duty trucks that usually required a Diesel engine. Companies are sick of paying extra for the Diesel engine and all the problems that come from modern emissions systems. If they can buy a truck to do the same job for less money and less money to keep it running, then that’s what they’ll do!

I’m interested to see what the differences are between the “civilian” and commercial 7.3 are. Chassis cab trucks with 7.3 are rated at 350hp, even less than the 6.2. I bet the area under the curve is still much greater, so maybe they just limit rpm or have a cam that is designed for lower revs.

I’ve not been a ford truck enthusiast since my 2016 F250. It was a great truck expect for the fit and finish, that’s what ruined them for me. But I have to say. I’m excited to see how the 7.3 does. Put a 4.30 gear with it and I bet it’ll be a game changer for gas engines. Diesels are a dying from epa so the future is gas. This new 7.3 will be MORE than capable of towing what MOST owners will ever tow.

Your right about Peak ##'s BUT there simply isn't enough torque with the 7.3. Sure it may be durable, floored up a long hill at max towing and not hurt it BUT as I said, simply not enough torque. Another failure by Ford.

73L VS 62L Even though this TFL review centers around the overall number. We are still impressed with the 7.3L and its more about the differences between each engine to us here at 5 Star Tuning. We wanted to show for those who have a 6.2L and or those wanting a 7.3L what could they expect approx. hp/tq to wheel between the engines.(stock form) We can run in 7th gear (the 7.3) and it will produce a higher number but will hit the factor speed limiter half way in WOT run. We might do that onces we get into development in a a couple of weeks . We also have our 2nd 7.3L coming in today (about time lol) it has a 3.55 gears, we will get some more runs with it to compare

The people in the comments talking bad about the 7.3 numbers....LMAO. If you want horsepower you have to mod pretty much any engine ever. If you wanted to tune it and custom fab performance mods then do it! It comes from factory as a tow pig. Ya'll are nuts, what are you expecting out of a factory tow pig? You want horsepower don't look at trucks that are meant to work and tow and hold up, go buy a ford lightning or shelby f150/raptor etc. These are not high horse power engines, they are specifically designed for durability and towability.

It's built for longevity, with such a broad power curve, it will discourage redlining it all the time, which will add to longevity and decrease fuel use. The intake and ports may not let it flow enough to have large high-rpm gains even with a cam and tuning.

Jay Bee True, since dealerships depend on parts and service. The 300 straight six was one of their best engines to date, cheap and easy to maintain at home. They killed it and introduced the Tritons, those had numerous issues, particularly the 5.4 up until the last 2 years of it’s life cycle. Ford corrected most issues then replaced it with the Coyote which I agree is more competitive for today’s market.

Slow Fox the 7.3 isn’t down on power, it’s tuned for longevity. The way the factory has it tuned so that you can run it it’s entire life running ragged. I would imagine that intake, cat deletes and a tune would add another 60 pound feet of torque and another 25hp. The 7.3 puts out 50 more pound feet of torque at the start of the dyno run. A tune on a 6.2 can’t cover that spread at 2,200rpm. You’d have to add a supercharger to match the graph.
@Digger927
@Digger927 4 жыл бұрын
@@slowfox6286 That argument is silly. We don't know what the 7.3 is capable of yet with a cold air intake and a tune that you tout on the 6.2. From this test the 7.3 has much more grunt in lower RPM (the actual "feel a difference" RPM range for towing) than the 6.2. As for the diesel argument...that's even more silly, anyone knows the gassers aren't going to throw out comparable numbers to a diesel. The issue is the diesel is $8k more expensive and much more expensive to maintain so many of us just do not want a diesel.

Like a diesel only 500lbft lower. The modern baby diesels make more torque at lower rpm and get far better mileage. In my opinion which means absolutely nothing ford missed the mark with this engine. @@Chris.P.Bacon. Again they totally missed the mark with those goal all of which can easily be met and out performed by a diesel. An important matterfor a work vehicle is reduced maintenance costs and reduced fuel costs. This motor will never beat a diesel in fuel cost. It may be a very reliable motor with a very flat torque curve but this motor is essentially a new version an old school industrial 460. Ford, chevy and dodge have tried this idea previously with the v10s and the 502 and diesels dominated those motors to the point that they were only offered for a short time. Diesels have proven turbos can be extremely reliable under much higher pressures then gas engines. Theres no reason they couldn't achieve thier goals with a small displacement turbo motor and had improved power torque mileage. They have proven that with the ecoboost lineup.

PAN G, there are times we don’t pull 20K around town, and use the truck as a daily driver. You must put a load on diesels and get them hot enough to burn all the soot out of the exhaust. Or else wet stacking and the dpf exhaust clogs up. I know because we had it happen at 21,000 miles. This one covered under warranty, but the next one won’t be ($6,500 repair, I’d do it myself if I had the diagnostics). So back to gas for me because I only pull a heavy load infrequently.

The most interesting thing about this video is that is shows the dyno isn't overestimating nearly as much as it looked in the diesel video. That makes those diesel numbers look crazy. Also, I don't know what everyone was expecting from the 7.3. It was touted by ford as a fuel efficient towing and work engine with low end grunt the 6.2 didn't have. The mpg is still tbd, but so far it looks like it is exactly as described in the power department with plenty of room to continue upping the competition diesel truck wars style.

One thing that wasn't corrected for in ratio is the 35" tires of the tremor vs the 33.5" tires on the full stocker. That does affect final drive ratio, and the heavier tires will increase parasitic loss. It likely wasn't the best choice to use the tremor as a test unit. I'm sure one of the guys at 5Star bought it for "the company" as more of a personal rig. It won't affect the shape of the curve, just maximum output doesn't compare well. It's good to finally have an idea about this engine though. Also: torque curve is significantly more important than maximum output numbers. Compare the average torque between these engines to get a better idea of the driving dynamics. That 7.3 will feel like the ecoboosts just that it is a massive pump. That's a chunky curve. Also Also: The 2.7L just got even more impressive as it's max torque numbers on the same dyno measure basically identical to the 6.2L max numbers (372 for the 2.7L). That would mean it's likely underrated by about 30 ft/lbs.
@BeanoNoir
@BeanoNoir 4 жыл бұрын
Went back to look at the avg torque data. Only two successful runs on the 7.3l*, so avg may be skewed slightly. 6.2L Avg torque =329.5ft/lbs 7.3L avg torque = 369.6ft/lbs Avg Delta= 40.1ft/lbs. %Delta = 12.2

@@noidontthinksolol I'm afraid you don't understand torque. If an engine like this has low rpm torque it means with the 4.62 first gear and 4.3 rear gear and torque converter, it can start pulling immediately. If the torque was higher in the rpm band, it would mean the hearing would have to be even more shorter and you'd have to rev it's nuts off just to get the thing moving.
@Looptydude

@@noidontthinksolol good luck getting a 6000lb truck to move with 150 ft.lbs. 18 wheelers are quite literally 1000 ft.lbs with 200 hp engines and a 3000 rpm redline. The whole point of low end torque is to move stuff. Sure a little honda s2000 with it's measly torque number and awesome hp/liter is great, but because it has no torque it has very short gears and get the same mpg as a Corvette of the same vintage. The low end torque of the Vette lets you cruise 65 mph at like 1200 rpm but the non existant torque of the s2000 means you cruise 65 at like 3800 rpm.

Edit to also say that at peak that's all you get, but you make close to peak torque at like 2500 RPm , and all the way out, while th 6.2 slowly builds until managing peak almost at redline, so the godzilla doesn't have to have the nuts revved off it to tow/haul, and the 6.2 does.

Great to see info on the 7.3. For an extra liter (7.3 vs. 6.2), I anticipated greater gains in torque and horsepower. Ford may be self-limiting those numbers. But, even if they aren't, it could be that by not striving for greater gains there, they may instead strive for an improvement in fuel efficiency. An analogy is the old Cadillac engines. They were no match for other big blocks on power, but they achieved greater gas mileage, even with greater displacement (472& 500 cu. in.) and while moving a heavier car.
