We have 2 96 DM dump trucks that are used off-road at a mill 24/7. They wore out the main trunnion shaft for the rears. They replaced the whole tower that mounts to the frame with the shaft installed. I told the mechanics I had never seen that changed before because usually by the time that’s wore out the is not much use left in the truck.

I worked in parts at a Mack dealer over summer in high school and it was very common for people to ruin a ubolt on those camelback spring setups. A Mack dealer should have lots of those but I guess there are fewer of them sold with air ride being the normal suspension now. You can probably buy them cheaper at a spring shop. I recall we put the nuts on because the threads could be easily damaged and we wanted to know that the threads were good. A customer couldn't say we sold them a bad one because they had to screw the nuts off before installing them. Some people pound them in I think you already have that job done but anti seize is the key to keep from stripping the threads on those.

Hey Dirt, Did U know that those outside pipe style bushings R just 4 looks? A few years back, our old Mack trunnion main frame busted up from rust and corrosion, from northern salty roads. We found out that there wuz an aftermarket conversion 2 replace the poorer boxed type frame with a 2-piece welded steel frame. We found a used cut-off 1 over at Manders Mack&Truck Salvage. The parts guy there told me that those outside keeper pipes were not necessary, they were "Just 4 Looks". It took 2 guys about 2 days 2 stick the frame in.

Mike that is good work??? Couple of things to look for in your internet searches. The first being a right angle one inch impact wrench. I finally broke down and bought one ten years ago or so. For truck spring work and dozer under carriage work they are a BIG time saver. The second is a good BIG 8 to 10 ton floor jack. They are so much safer than the smaller jacks lifting the rear ends and such. It is not the lift capacity it is the size and angle of the lifting head. I question??? When ever we install large U bolts we always lube the threads. I have had treads pickup when torqued to high specs. Just a light spray lube is what the local spring shop recommends not never seize or any kind of "super" lube. Also do you pay these two to work for you or do they pay you to put up with them?????? LOL
