Wow, I remember first seeing this years back and got me into playing GNU Radio, but hardly diving deep into it. Fast forward to the past year and I have been engaging in research with GNU Radio to detect and record GPS signals as they bounce off the ground to detect soil moisture levels with sinc nets and CNNs. Boy, how things have changed. What hasn't changed is that I still have a huge crush on Shannon Morse. 😅

As he said before, you can use it more than just with a SDR. You could use it for audio manipulation like filtering & mixing, etc. I'm going to use it to filter and decode signals from my HF ham radio.

Loving this series! I've had one of these dongles for a few months and your videos are helping me a lot. I wanted to let you know that in "gnuradio-companion" you can press "CTRL+F" to search through the blocks. Makes things a lot faster to find, when you know what you are looking for.

Here's a curious question. I remember years ago, there was some playing around with the ZigBee insecurities... What about using the SDRs for that? Since these are read only, it wouldn't obviously be interfering with their signals, but you COULD use it to, in essence, packet sniff the data using it. Just a thought.
@WA4OSH
@WA4OSH 9 жыл бұрын
I don't think the RTL-SDR goes high enough in frequency to reach Zigbee at 2.4GHz without a down-converter. ZigBee Channels in the 2.4GHz ISM Band ZigBee Channels 11-26 - Center Freq. (MHz) 11 - 2405 12 - 2410 13 - 2415 14 - 2420 15 - 2425 16 - 2430 17 - 2435 18 - 2440 19 - 2445 20 - 2450 21 - 2455 22 - 2460 23 - 2465 24 - 2470 25 - 2475 26 - 2480

How about a future show on building a homemade antenna for the SDR dongle. I've been playing around with some old CB antennas and a 900MHz high gain antenna that I'm barrowing from a freind, but I honestly don't know a lot about antennas. They do appear to be an improvement over the antenna that comes with the dongle.

Update last: Just discovered why I've had so much trouble getting the GNU Radio to play an FM radio station. Seems my laptop is hosting a convention of web users. I turned off the wifi on my laptop after noticing some things were slowing down during my switches between the video and the VMWare software. When I did, everything ran well. The instrumentation windows filled with data and I could hear the nostalgic sound of an FM radio announcer in the background. I'm going to try the same tactic with the Live Linux dvd and USB stick. Thank you, and good luck. Update. Setup RTL-SDR block, add Instrumentation of choice disconnect (disable rest of receiver, and run. Works fine. Connect rest of receiver (enable) and run. Instrumentation goes blank. If the system wer real, I would think the dongle overloaded. Going to try the video's scenario in several environments, including Raspberry Pi. as well as Linux Live dvd in addition to virtual machine. Using GNURadio 3.7.10.1(2016), does not work. All I get is popping noise. There are some changes. The rational Sampler is now in the Resamplers directory. The Block table sort button is gone. Would have been fun. How about an update? Has anyone noticed all the 'goodies' have disappeared from Kali 2016? Using Windows 10 Pro x64(amd64).

US FM stations are on odd tenths of MHz frequencies. e.g. 89.5, 91.3, 107.7, etc. Is that why you are having problems receiving stations near 23:00?
@milofonbil
@milofonbil 9 жыл бұрын
Darren and Shannon, I had to re-watch the video to figure out what happened because it initially worked. But, near 20:00, when you changed to the Freq. variable, you may have mis-led yourself. You picked an even tenths value of 93.6 MHz. Likewise, the slider at 21:30 should have been defaulted to an ODD tenths value. Notice your slider picks the guard band between all the stations! ;) Thanks. I really enjoyed this episode of Hak 5.

why not use the FFT with 8192 bins do your processing then do the inverse FFT with 8192 bins then everything should be better, why not upgrade your laptop to one with an AMD A8 APU that has everything built into the APU which makes for a smaller lighter laptop, I myself I am running an AMD A10-7800 (Kavari) with 32GB of GDDR3 RAM with a graphics that should not have been installed as I think it is going to make my PC overheat, therefore I intend to remove the stupid graphics card and replace it with a blanking plate and remove the screw that is holding a piece of card which is blocking the default HDMI port that connects directly to pins on the AMD A10-7800.

I can get lots of radio stations scanned on the "blazehdtv .6" and "presto pvr"software provided Installed on 2 computers (vista + windows 7) all drivers from rtlsdr and manufacturers... and tried different combinations ... uninstalling and system restore points. Ive also joined it to tv arial on roof PLEASE HELP THIS IS PEE-ING ME OFF NOW THANKS

Also some tips: get three circuit board crocodile clips, attach in a line. Then grip the antenna provided with one clip ... and the other end on a bare coat hanger. I improved my signal about 35% that way. Been thinking of buying 25ft of telephone cable. You know the white £1 discount store type. And attach clip to that. I'm planning on taking a trip to my local telecommunications mast ... and clipping onto the steal cable supports and see what happens. Also other end of lead im thinking to ground just in case. In rtlsdr software - you can use your arrows keys to skip through the channel frequencies if you havent found that. Also i keep mine on Fast scroll. That way when im moving through the frequencies quickly i can any images caught
