I was literally thinking if the instructor would agree to fly over his home like 10 seconds before the clip showed Andrew's castle, lol. Leaving all humor aside, (Yeah that's hard to do with this bunch of fans I know as shown below) I get damn near teary eyed that he is such a hard working young man and all that he has done. This? I used to go to Rhinebeck throughout the '70s with my uncle when he flew RC planes from that field. We'd go up for the weekend from Long Island for these massive RC fly in's for WWI and inter-war year airplanes. More than once Cole Palen chatted up my uncle (who was an airplane mechanic) and me in the hangars where he stored the old WW1 planes "waiting for repair". I have not been there since then so it's good to see it all in good shape. I figured that's the area you lived in Andy, I went to college in New Paltz so I recognized the terrain. Look up the "flying farmer at Rhinebeck" to see something fun at that field. Great stuff Andy!

That bit about chicken wire to stop bits of the engine damaging the prop when they fall off. I mean you wouldn't catch me in any of those planes anyway, but hearing how they needed to take measures to protect against the engine shredding parts... that underlined it for me. Very little ground roll and these bad boys are airborne . I saw a lot of these Super cubs in Alaska while I was flying Helicopters for Last Frontier . The pilots in Alaska are in a category of their own . They are truly amazing . I was humbled . They taught me how to not die or kill someone else on the ground while we were doing mega long line with 100 ft to 150 foot cable . I have a great respect for simplicity . Technology is a good thing but as usual we let it get out of control . Gotta love that firetruck too. But the tank was mega cool .

The best part was the 69 Chevelle. My 70 Hurst Olds and those were a real pair.

For once, I have you up on something. I have my private ticket. But I see there are several other even more senior pilots commenting here.😉 By the way, that is a Pennsylvania Railroad N5 caboose from the early 1900's next to the fire truck garage (first all-metal caboose in US railroad history).

Riding/flying in a J-3 Cub is an experience of a lifetime. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is an amazing place to visit. Cole Palen is a true aviation great. Thank you for the video.
