Casinos didn't used to have carpets. They were called "sawdust" joints (wood floors). Carpet was considered upscale. Gretta hit the nail on the head. But yes, I like hard floors over carpet. Carpet absorbs and soften the sounds. It's also easier on the cocktail servers' feet.

Hardwood is slippery, people are more likely to fall and sue. Also carpets give some amount of cushion for employees who have to stand on them all day. Finally hardwood would get scratched every time they move a machine.

Old Vegas so rich and elegant the chandeliers and beautiful plush carpeting is casino class. Stop and notice when you go in the casinos every casino is different the carpeting. I personally have never got shocked so you must drag your feet. And that's why casinos have carpeting and this old school hope it always stays that way. Plus there's lots of people that wear high heels especially in Vegas and it's harder to walk on slippery hardwood floors than carpeting with stilettos
