My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

Nice rant. I had no idea you were a Luddite. How about explaining podium gate, or your state's high maternal death rate, or why you were comfortable sending your kids to Arkansas schools. (It's for the greater good?) Your show would be better without your politics, and I would say the same thing if our beliefs were the same. By the way, we do have sidewalks. That was my rant. If you were a little older and had lived in a state that has people in it before they started putting emmission equipment on engines, you would have an idea of why we need to protect the air we breath. You really do put on a very nice show, but this morning you got under my skin.

I’m in central California, I just spoke with the guy at ace working in the chainsaw department and he said everything over 50cc is still available for purchase and whatever is still on the shelf is still able to be sold. They’re trying to eliminate all the small homeowner saws and trimmers etc. Trust me I’m not for this at all. I also have a cabin in the Sierra Nevada here and everyone burns wood and runs gas saws. They actively shove commercials down our throat here saying how wood burning for heat is horrible and how it’s a sin and don’t ever do it. Screw them I burn

Love you more every episode! 34 years ago I was a junkyard dog. Our catalytic converter buyer was there one day. I asked where do these go for recycling? He says well, its too expensice to do in the USA so they ship it to south america! Also a coworker went to the Dominican republic for his honeymoon several years ago. He saw homes hidden by lead acid batteries. He asked what they did with them. Oh, its recycling. The acid is poured into an adjacent stream that safely runs to the ocean then the battery is smashed to recover the leas and zinc plates that later get melted to get more clean and pure ingots. FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

Northern Californian here! I own acres of land covered in oak trees that can't be managed without a blower, and we have a wood stove as our only source of heat. I cut 4-6 cords of firewood a year because it's the only way I can afford to heat the house my family lives in. There is no way I can afford battery equipment to do what I need my tools to do. I have many friends in a similar position. I can't afford to spend $300+ a battery, and believe me I would require multiple batteries just for my chainsaws, and have to replace them every 7-10 years, being optimistic. Meanwhile I have saws from the 70's that run like the day they were made. The existing lithium powered saws that have the power I need are prohibitively expensive. The blower tech isn't even there yet. Not to mention trimming and mowing in the spring.... I barely saved enough money to buy a couple new pieces of gas equipment just before the ban, and hopefully I can keep them running for years. Also in my state the ban on gas generators is going into effect soon amid the public safety power shut offs in the summer that I have personally been effected from twice, totaling 10 days without power while my father was on an oxygen generator, kept alive by a gas generator. Sorry for the huge wall of text, but this is insane.
@ettcha
@ettcha 5 ай бұрын
At least it's a prohibition on sales. Possession and use seems ok for now so you could still cross state lines for what you need and bring it back, but given how these things go, possession might be next on the list. Especially if they bundle emissions and noise regulations to make it so you can't use them even if you can continue to own them.

Great video Bre. Just to give a "Greater Good' Example, A current EV car fire here in Alabama used 30,000 Gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The fire chief on the incident commented that a normal car fire would normally use 500 gallons of water to put a fire out. I even watched an EV car fire being dumped in the river while on fire to put it out, But it's all for the 'Greater Good" Right !!! Don't forget the mining equipment used by large industry mining, uses 1000's of gallons an hours to run the equipment, but it's all for the "Greater Good". We're missing something here and the word is "Control".

Yes but don't let this further divide the country. These engines are small and you could even fuel them with some clean fuel made from plants. You know, for homeowners, battery OPE is now for most of them, and that's a good thing! How many disused dead chainsaws and whatnot do you see? Not a problem with battery equipment. Push mowers, line trimmers, etc - you need more than an acre to make any gas equipment make sense anymore if you do your own lawn. The trouble comes (for now) when you're talking landscapers - but also bigger equipment in general. Just how many batteries will they need to replace a 4-cycle mower, or a 50cc backpack blower? Well, for the backpack blower, I can tell you - you need about six batteries to be able to constantly charging them while running the blower during leaf cleanup season in New Englandg. And, they're big batteries. And for landscapers, that'll mean idling the motive engine on the truck, or running a generator to keep them charged, or using an F-150 Lightning (honestly, the Lightning looks pretty awesome for a lot of tradespeople). And for us up north, I did the math... to clear my driveway takes me about 20-30 minutes after a big snowfall with a John Deere blower, and the power requirements would drain an Ego battery in under 60 seconds in 20 degree weather. If we look at the current progress, I figure 5-10 years until electric equipment can replace almost all 2-cycle, but 20+ for most four cycle.

Small engine powered tools can easily be replaced with electric ones. They can be every bit as light and powerful--and, they're quiet and easy to maintain because they don't have finicky little carburetors and crap. Problem is they're expensive because of the battery packs.

Once again, California is leading the charge to the bottom, and telling us to feel good about it! Not only can't we buy gasoline-powered outdoor equipment, we can't even have a natural gas stove or a natural gas furnace in a new house in many cities...including mine! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before using a BBQ (charcoal or LPG) will be illegal. That's okay...I feel so much better after having paid $153 for the annual registration renewal on my 1970 Honda Trail 90 that I rode less than 20 miles last year. Not that I'll be riding it much in the future, since California has the highest gasoline prices in the country, including Hawaii. I am so f-cking done with this state!

@@TheBandit7613 My Volvo is nearing half that age. The problem is that from 2028 it will be banned from the low emission zones, here in Antwerp. So the issue is not how long it's going to last. We can fix everything and adapt. What we can't fix is corruption and stupidity at every government level. Unless, I guess, we "refresh" the tree of liberty.

Keep in mind, it's not just consumer products. I have worked in the automation industry/now work in test & measurement for 100's of tech leaders. Even smaller induction motors have been legislated for tiny efficiency improvements under the 2007 EISA act. In some cases (dynamic stop/start applicationsspecifically) the higher efficiency motor is *less* efficient due to greater copper in the windings. More inertia = more energy required to move!

I can tell you first hand that lithium batteries at a landfill are so dangerous. Once a packer ( unit that packs trash ) or dozer runs over it , it likely burns. Potentially burning an entire landfill.

In December of 2023, I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Sierra foothills. I now have 5 acres of land to maintain in a fire prone area. Before the end of the year I had already purchased a chainsaw and a leaf blower. This spring it became very apparent that I needed a good line trimmer as well, one with the ability to run a few different blades for trimming, brush cutting and mulching as well as the ability to run for hours on end. Fortunately, my local hardware store had stocked up before the end on the year, otherwise I was planning a quick trip to Nevada to buy a gas line trimmer. I can sort of understand pushing the much quieter battery operated equipment in densely populated areas, but some of us still need more heavy duty equipment that as far as ?I'm aware, battery operated stuff just isn't there yet.
