you may have confused the pov, the song is sung by the one who was buried & dug up, the digger is the love interest, that the dead body asks a smooch from kinda like the true love’s kiss from fairy tales but it’s the corpse that asks for it, better on the consent, seems like the digger did give him the kiss as he is recalling this memory of being dug up, this is why Hozier is teasingly called the bog man because he is always being dug up or crawling out of his grave also because of the influence of Seamus Heaney’s bog body poems on the Hozier album up until now tbh, still going under earth on the new album
