Welcome back. Sorry it's taking so long between videos. I have had very little internet access up here in the Boon Docks. I'll have to fix that. In this video Judy and I clean up a heap of old tounge and groove cedar boards removed from a neighbour's house renovation. We got the sink as well. It's all plumbed in to our instant gas hot water system and it all seems to be working well.
For paint stripping the old paint we used our large 5 KVA generator, but for most of the work we used hand tools and other tools power power our solar panels and Battery systems.
I wanted rustic simple and that is what we got.
Thanks for watching!
Scott

The Tongue and Groove Floor Boards came in 12 foot lengths. And since We were going to hang it vertically as Wall Boards it needed to be cut to lengths of 123 inches. And since there were so many of them to shorten Two of Us set about doing it. First I measured 120 inches with My Ten foot Tape Measure and marked it. Then I added 3 inches and marked it again, then I cut it. This first Board was then became the Template from which I cut all My other Boards. My Mate did the same. When hanging the vertical Wall Boards it became clear that all of My Boards were short. I had mistakenly added THREE CENTIMETRES not 3 inches. So We hung the Boards Long short Long short in alternating sequence across the Wall with the Gap at the bottom, intending to cover the Gaps with a Skirting Board. In the 20+ years the Board covered Wall existed the Skirting Board was never added. In time it became known that the Gaps were a Deliberate Architectural Feature (without further explanation). Personally I have always blamed it on Australia’s conversion from Imperial to Metric and the manufacture of Tape Measures calibrated in both. That and My youth and inexperience.

Cool! Curious why you didn't put a vent pipe or at least an air admittance valve on that drain line. I know it's "just a shed" and your drain line runs to air so you don't have to worry about sewer gases coming into the shop. But without a vent the traps are going to siphon. Even with the frog stop at the end of the drain line I'd be a bit concerned about creepy-crawlers coming up through dry traps. Don't know what sorts of creepy-crawlies you have in Northern Australia, but I'll never forget having had some really large, wiggly antennae poking up in the shower drain one morning in an old apartment I very briefly occupied. I'm fond of U-bends that stay filled with water!
@Crewsy
@Crewsy Жыл бұрын
There are P traps under the sink and shower that should both stay full of water. With 2” pipe run the short distance that he ran them he’ll never have an issue with siphoning.
@christopherdahle9985
@christopherdahle9985 Жыл бұрын
@@Crewsy He'll never have an issue with siphoning because it's temporary work camp set up for showering and brushing teeth until the house is done. It drains to air and it doesn't matter that the S-trap under the sink is going to siphon dry and suck the seal right out of the shower drain as it does. Besides,ain't nobody going to inspect it.
@Crewsy
@Crewsy Жыл бұрын
@@christopherdahle9985 Your comment was about creepy crawlies. I still say it won’t siphon because the pipe diameter is large enough and the run is short enough to prevent ever being full which is what will be required to create a siphon. His P traps will definitely remain full.

Hot running water makes life great! Judy might not think so, but the paint came off well with the heat gun. Old paint in the UK often just balls up in a sticky mess when using heat. Just curiously is the steam from the shower not going to add to Queensland’s humidity and rust the tools even faster in the shed? Or a better question, do you need a lid on the dunny? 😊
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious Жыл бұрын
Yep definitely need a lid on the crapper. Hot water makes us feel like we are in civilisation again. The shower room is only for whilst we are building. We'll eventually have the house. The humidity is pretty low up here thankfully. Thanks Doug!

I’m liking the bathroom build, especially the tin and the door. Is a building permit required for this or is it considered agricultural? So the clean room will be temporary living quarters until the house is built? Also do y’all camp in the van while doing this construction?
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Stuart! I think technically you would need a permit yes due to management of waste water, but we had no sewerage set up (Just a portapotty) so we let it go. No I just wash my hands in there as we are up at our shed house now. Yes we stayed in the van whilst we built.

This is the life style we bought into when we immigrated to Australia from the UK, A beautiful idyllic setting, with a rustic shower, a few cows, and old Yota 4x4 with some Banana, Mangoes and a garden just big enough so sustain the wife and I. It started off so beautifully, we were on track to make "Robinson Crusoe" look like a Sunday School Pick nick when it all tuned into "Lord of the Flies" with the local Council making their appearance and demanded that we try to recreate Sydney in the middle of the Grafton Bush. Well as any "Bush Dweller" will tell you the responsibility in running your own Country inside Somebody else's Country (Council and all their Services/Taxes and infrastructure) is no mean feat, you end up being a Democratically Elected Major inside a Dictatorship, now how in the FCUKING Hell does that work, I have to follow the Wife's Guidance but Democratically Elected to "Rule", but the Dictatorship/Council/Bully is trying their best to grab the biggest part of the Nest egg you build up over 10 years to be able to do what I can only guess the Town Planner/Inspector will never have the the lability to do unless he tries to fly under the radar like I wanted to do. Well you win some and you loose some, I am planning something so sinister in the world of Farming Architecture that it will shock them to the core, but I am not saying anything. LOL!
