This is the second horseshow I’ve taken Annie to this year, and while there were some mistakes on both of our parts, it was SUCH an improvement! I’m so proud of how far she has come since she’s been back to work after she was a broodmare last year!
After the show, we went back to the barn to breed Erlene, hopefully the last breeding of the year!
Cross your fingers she takes, and stay tuned!

Do a video where you sit down and interview your vet. Like to hear how he decided to go to vet school, had he had horse experience as a kid, and his whole trajectory into equine repro

Every show is a learning curve. I’m coming here as a retired working and show dog breeder of 17 years, and I totally get and understand what Katie is saying. Each show you go to, regardless the outcome. You learn more about your stock and what you need to work on. I love your videos!

I love your vet and something about watching him just casually have convo with you while arm up a mare, flinging it into the corner and going back in, just really makes me giggle everytime. (I know he’s doing his job and he seems literally amazing at it, just can’t help but laugh)

Even with the EPM, Annie looked and did great! Annie is so beautiful! 😍 Katie, you and Annie both looked great together! I don't have a favorite from your barn (too hard to choose), but I love Ethel, she's so goofy with a huge personality and also Annie, because she's still striving to be the best show mare she can be considering the EPM. Erlene is beautiful too, all your mares (foals, Waylon and geldings too) are. I can't remember, was this the first time you bred Erlene? I'm looking forward to seeing you and Erlene show in the future. Thanks for sharing. ❤

Well done Katie and Annie. I loved how you totally took ownership of the lope over being not correct because of something you did. I completely understand how that goes. My coach is always reminding me to get out of my horses way and let him do what he was trained to do. I have a video request... as I show open shows and do not show AQHA... maybe you could give some insight as to why Annie, as an 8 yr old, is being showed in a snaffle bit and then being switched to a curb bit in the last trail go. I'm just curious about those rules. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your show video... I loved it!

I’m curious, why does the horse keep her head down so low? Is it just part of her natural posture/movement or do you have to train her to walk like that? I’m used to watching walking horses which have a totally different gait and posture. It’s so cool to see a different type of horse do their thang.
@1ccTooTall
@1ccTooTall Жыл бұрын
Quarter horses have their foundation In working cows. To face a cow well, the horse’s head needs a lower carriage. This attribute carries through the breed regardless of whether they are used as cow horses. As a QH owner I see that Annie’s headset is paired with a lifting of her shoulders, a strong topline, and a driving from the hindquarters… which is what riders of most breeds appreciate. The lift of the shoulders/back keeps them from feeling heavy on the forehand regardless of headset.
@SwordandShieldStable
@SwordandShieldStable Жыл бұрын
Proper show movement is a trained exaggeration of their natural movement. Stock horses (especially pleasure/all-around type) are bred to be "long and low" in their movement. Very sweepy with their legs with minimal knee action. Deep hocked underneath themselves. And their head hung straight out in front of them, level with their topline. Conformationally, they are built with the angles to accomplish the job, much like gaited breeds that have more upright angles to match their knee action. The AQHA rulebook has a great explanation of how their movement is judged, but here is the walk: SHW331.1 The Walk SHW331.1.1 Poor Walk - uneven pace and no cadence. Has no flow and may appear intimidated or appear to march. SHW331.1.2 Average Walk - has a four-beat gait, level top-line and is relaxed. SHW331.1.3 Good Walk - has a flowing four-beat gait, level top-line, relaxed and is bright and attentive.
