She mentioned being bad at the math for conversion rates when looking at that 20,000 yen melon at the beginning. For anyone interested in the conversion rates: For the last decade 100 yen has been extremely close to $1 USD (more like 90 cents but close enough), so that melon would usually be about $200. However, in the last year or so the yen has been declining, and is now at 100 yen = 75 cents. So that melon is currently about $150.

Yen to dollar conversion is pretty easy. Take the last two zeroes and that's your dollar price, more or less. It's been like 30 years that the dollar fluctuates around a price point of 100 Yen per dollar,with its ups and downs depending on the economy. Buying toys and model kits directly from Japan keeps me up to date.
