Join The Legend & Molly as they take you on the experience of going up the st louis arch. This video shows of the ride to the top of the gateway arch, the gateway to the west museum and the accompanying mississippi riverboat tour. The arch is very unique as you ride to the top in a tram which is a mix between an elevator, a tram and a ferris wheel.

So does this monument have a major rival? You know, like an arch nemesis? 😏

Yeah, it's McDonald's. It has two arches. I remember the McDonald's ferry that was below the arch until 2000.

Thanks for the video. Went a while back with one of my youngins on a school band trip. I did feel claustrophobic in the tram, but I wasn't gonna miss being at the top with the rest, so me and God had a conversation. While on the top, could definitely feel it sway a bit, but the view was worth it. Nice to see how it is now. Cool video.

I have been to the arch twice. It's a must to go both see and ride up. I wasn't nervous at all to go up. It's just totally well worth your time and effort to get there and do

Fun fact. At 6:32 in the video, looking straight down 630 feet, a person with visual acuity that is one line better than 20/20 can make out a letter on the ground the size of a 8.5 X 11-inch sheet of paper. This is a resolving power of smaller than one arcminute, which measures about 2 inches at a distance of 630 feet. This is the level of detail the human eye should be seeing!

@In The Loop Thanks for creating and up-loading this video. I was up there while visiting the US in 1983. You picked a great day, and the view from the top in your video reminded me how I saw it back then.

Hi I just subscribed.. was there still a lot of swaying at the top ? Ahe where the East divides the West. You're lucky you had that little claustrophobic tram . When we were there in the 90s.You took a regular elevator but it only went so high. Then you had to take these rickety old metal steps that twist and turn and were steep as all get-out for about the last 6-8 stories! And it wasn't those steps you were showing when you were on the tram. Those must be newer mabey before tram was built? 😆 😆 😆

On our visit there wasn’t much swaying, it depends on how windy it is outside

@@IntheLoopPodcast here's the thing I don't remember it being a particularly windy day. Because my husband even asked the employee up there. And he said it always sways and he said something about how is has to do withto the architect of the building. And has nothing to do with the wind outside which surprised us both ...So I'm really surprised you didn't have that!!! It swayed like crazy when we were there.. I'm terrified of heights that's why I wanted to do it. And that's why I remember like it was yesterday! 😆

Don’t mean to be rude here, but what a horrible, horrible ride that must be! When you finally arrive at the top, they make you climb some stairs! Definitely not for the claustrophobic type! Yikes. If you want a beautiful, exciting experience, come to Toronto Canada and visit the CN tower. You’ll thank me. Geez!

While the ride to the top is a little cramped, once on top, it morphs into a marvelous experience. I can hardly believe it has now been almost 30 years since I did this.....with my first wife who was born in Missouri.
