this was a charcoal briquette co. the hoppers were filled with ingredients for binding agent (looks like roofing tar)its in a book called "briquetting" by Albert Leads Stillman- google books. i saw a pile of briquettes on the floor by the "ash piles" inside the first part. love putting history back together. your videos inspire me to investigate these places (not trying to 'steel your thunder') just want to get answers to questions. this is YOUR discovery, thanks for sharing. maybe a return trip? there is an old photo in this book and the history of 'briquetting'.

That was some pretty cool underground rooms! I was hoping the cart tracks would lead into a coal mine, but it seems that it may have been too flooded down there to trace them to see where they go?

just went down this same area in Nov. 2020 ...its dryer now.. those "tracks" inside is a drainage chute( terrecota pipes cut in half). i think the hoppers held the materials for making the explosive slurry. they wouldnt be dangerous until they were mixed (amonium oxide maybe?) Great video of this place. any old photos?

Great cool video but I myself wouldn’t go under there considering right over the hill a few miles away we are still mining and blasting a few times a week

that was fantastic. almost as good as a Skyrim RPG dungeon. you had to be brave down there. That might make a good Doom shelter or Post apocalyptic hideout! No zombies down there!

I don't know anything about coal mining and so it is interesting to see all of this infrastructure. Given all of the horror stories, I'm somewhat intimidated by going underground into an abandoned coal mine itself.

You never actually went into the mines. If you plan on doing it then you need MSHA approved lighting,a methane detector just to name a few things, you should also familiarize yourself with the dangers of a coal mine like black and white damp. I'm a 3rd generation coal miner for Consol Energy

Went here and the tunnel the other day. Do you know about the mine fire just up the road in Nesquehoning? I was there a few weeks back. Really cool spot but dangerous as hell...
