According to a text on the album inlay, "Terra Incognita" title ( Latin for "unknown land" ) refers to the area inside of each man, where, according to Hindu legend, Brahma hid the divinity that he had taken from humanity for the punishment of its abuse. The man posing on the album cover is guitarist Christian Andreu.

Early Gojira was absolutely a classic death metal band. You can hear influences from so many nineties legends in this record.

I'm here after their performance in the Olympics lol Gonna be honest, never gave them a proper opportunity...till now. So I decided to listen to their discography in chronological order. And damn! This album fucking slaps! I really like their Death Metal songs (re-recorded songs from their previous demos from "Godzilla") and I hear a lot of 90's influences (obviously) like Groove)? a bit of Nu Metal and even some Belgian H8000 Hardcore (leaning more towards metal) in some breakdowns and riffs, but this last one is just a hypothesis that makes kinda sense since both France and Belgium are neighbors and the H8000 Hardcore was at its peak at the end of the 90's, plus, Gojira recorded this album in Belgium in 2000. So there's the possibility. Anyway, it's a crushing debut with many nasty stank face moments >:( like 4:05 🔥 And Space Time, what a track! 🔥Phenomenal! I'm stoked to hear the rest!

have fun with the rest, I recommend you check the original version of the link released in 2003 - not the 2005 remaster (if you dislike the production on the latter, which is the case for a lot of people including myself)

@@SaintFranssoix the drumming is more linear to me in The Link (Great Album). Even though its still has some tech death flavor. Considering the Link overall; drumming and band direction is where I would call them Progressive Death Metal.
