Goku vs Frieza: Dramatic Intro and Finish (ENGLISH DUB)

To see these for yourself:
Intro: Have either Goku (Super Saiyan) or Frieza as your first character, and whoever you didn't pick as your first opponent on the Planet Namek stage. Krillin can't be on either team, but the other person can have a Frieza and Goku on their team as well.
Finish: Land a 5H (Standing Heavy) on Frieza as Goku (Super Saiyan) as the K.O. hit on the Destroyed Namek stage. You don't have to start from Planet Namek if you just want to see this one, since you can just pick Destroyed Namek itself as a stage.

Fluffy tyranitar it wasnt that. Goku always gave second chances to his enemies like vegeta and piccolo and it worked. He gave 2 chances to Frieza and still failed. He couldnt change a pure villian like Frieza and he was saddened and ashamed because of it.

I like how even when Frieza killed his people goku still feels bad about killing him. it describes his character so well

I think it’s awful. It goes against the entire concept of the super sayian. A rage-fueled killer that symbolizes the epitome of the warrior race. The SSJ form was too impure you make a spirit bomb, awakened by fury. Him sparing freeza has always been weird. What’s more it served no purpose since Freeza just gets killed at the start of a new arc anyway. If anything it shows how Goku never changes and never learns. A bad end to an otherwise solid arc.

CloudcoleVII I don’t think it’s awful, it showed what separates Goku from other Saiyans. Even In a form what’s supposed to be inevitable blood lust he still managed to keep his morals for the most part. I do agree, Goku has given Frieza way to many chances

Anthony_Hoke I respect that you admire his mercy. I think Goku gives everybody too many chances. Goku lets Dr Gero create the cyborgs/cell and ruin a world. Goku lets Vegeta go. Goku even wanted Buu to come back even though Buu wiped out all life on earth. Mercy is admirable but c’mon! It’s nice to have consistency in character traits, but it shows that Goku has only learned how to be stronger, and not better, in 20 years of writing. Maybe he is the reason vegito is so impotent.

CloudcoleVII I agree wit all those points. Buu did become semi good in super tho. Onna side note I always thought of Vegito as more of Vegeta tbh. Goku although being very merciful Never seems as cocky as Vegeta. Vegito gives me arrogance than mercifulness

That Look on Goku's face really shows us how forgiving he is, He never really hates anyone, even when he goes super Saiyan out of rage against Frieza, he's not doing it thinking it's the right choice, he's doing it because he has no other option, he's not doing it to avenge Krillin, he's making sure Frieza won't hurt anyone else, as is the legacy of the Super Saiyan.

all through dragon ball he was always able to become friends with his worst enemies. and in Z, piccolo and vegeta. you can tell he really wished for the same with frieza.

I use to be put off that they changed the localization from “You fool!” to “You moron!” because it didn’t sound as eloquent. But then I realized that was the point. Goku’s primary concern wasn’t his anger toward Frieza’s ungratefulness. The first and foremost thought in his mind was that Frieza was being incredibly stupid. Not just foolish/unwise, flat out *stupid*. That adds a different kinda bite to the scene.

Different works are translated by different people. The team who localized this game most likely had a slip there.

I believe the problem was FUNimation didn't have much time to work on it, and wasn't told by the Japanese what certain lines meant so they can do well with the delivery of the lines. Plus, not enough freedom.

FUNimation did the dub, but they didn't translate the script. That was made by Namco Bandai's localization team. Probably that was a slip by that team.

@@hashi. 4 years later, I agree. I have not been a fan of Funimation since 2019. They're trash, and I have no sympathy for them being absorbed by CrunchyRoll, which is trash too. Pretty much prefer watching anime with subs nowadays, and the pirates do a far better job with subtitles than the official "translators".

That’s exactly what Toriyama was conveying in the manga version of this scene, which I prefer immensely because it makes way more sense for Goku to appear regretful and feel sad about taking someone else’s life contrary to the anime version where he doesn’t seem to be that much impacted by it and just looks frustrated instead.

That’s the idea. Goku never really wants to kill anybody unless they don’t give him a choice. He give Frieza literally 2 chance to walk away and he threw them because of his ego.

I couldn't have imagined that I would be this dissapointed in hearing this.. From the "You Fool" line change, to the overall delivery of these lines.. Much of the Dub delivery that I've heard aside from this has been exceptional, shame to see them drop the ball here.

Goku is first on one of the team's other characters dont matter same goes with Frieza and the map has to be namek (destroyed) or namek and destroy it with a 3 ki finisher (as long as it destroys the map along with it) and finish frieza off with a heavy attack as goku in the center of the map and makes this happen also the ending can be skipped
