Drum Kingdom, Luffy tells Sanji as they’re carrying Nami up the mountain that a man in a bar (if not Shanks, then almost certainly one of his crew) told him about people who don’t sleep because if they do they’ll die. That chapter is also the first time Blackbeard is ever mentioned. Oda is entirely prepared to give a hint 20 years before paying it off.

I love it how Roger reaching the "end" 13 years prior means that during those 13 years it's implied that he explored the entirety of the grand line yet Laugh Tale is so well hidden he could never accidentally stumble upon it. If you remember back in the early episodes, there are "paths" that you could take, at least in the first half of the grand line, and Luffy explored only one path so far, whereas the other supernovas each followed a different path towards Sabaody. And remember, all of that exploration happened before the Navy had access to the seastone technology so that their ships could pass through the Calm Belt, meaning that Roger MUST have travelled back and forth all this time, no shortcuts.

For me, this small Roger vs Whitebeard fight was more hype than Hashirama vs Madara. The execution and animation was peak. Thank you, Oda and Toei.

In the same arc, Blackbeard was introduced as someone who attacked Drum island searching something
