I was talking with a relative who is a Jingle Dress dancer. I was asking about the weight of the regalia, those dancers with 5/6 lines of jingles on the skirt, on the shoulders and arms, also the beadwork on the cape, leggings and moccasins, also hair ties and braid beadwork... wow, that is one heavy regalia to dance in... especially for 2 song competition... some specials with 3.4 songs... these ladies are awesome and in most cases, the audience may not realize how grueling it is to perform... much appreciation and respect for these jingle dancers...

@@peiganpowwowproductions790 Thank you for the reply. In my experience, it is having learned what the dress means, what each jingle means, that each piece of the regalia is sewn and beaded with prayer by loved ones. And the responsibility the dancer assumes dancing in this way, with this dress, with those steps. ....And having learned via an on the ground experience, seeing the prayer in action in the midst of immediate threat. Watching this connects me to a special time, connects me to special people, and gives me hope. Prayers are answered when danced with integrity. It is the way of the Creator.

@@barbaralemere5183 Each dancer's regalia is very personal, it may have family colors, past colors of family dancers and in some cases, family beadwork, belts and other regalia items that are worn by the dancers, it may also include colors from each dancers Indian name, from a ceremonial perspective, the Jingle Dress dance is a healing dance so the pouch likely contained "materials" needed for the healing ceremony by the dancer... powwow celebration jingle dancing is more "colorful and vibrant" than the Jingle Dance that is in Ceremony... each has it's place, protocols on a tribe by tribe basis... each is unique...

What is the meaning behind lifting of the feather in the air?
@peiganpowwowproductions7904 жыл бұрын
The Eagle is considered to be a messenger to Creator. It was given the honor of carrying the prayers of man and woman between the World of Earth and the World of Spirit, where the Creator and grandfathers/grandmothers reside. To wear or hold an Eagle feather causes the Creator to take immediate notice. With the Eagle feather, the Creator is honored in the highest way. There are many website of Native American Culture, Ceremony Practices and Spiritual Protocols. The main thing to remember is that each of these is unique to each tribe, there are similarities and difference in practice. Therefore, there is respect among the tribes in their cultures, ceremonies and practices... there is no one way is the right way... to each tribe, it is their way...

@@peiganpowwowproductions790 I get the meaning, but I've seen many powwows where on certain honor beats they don't raise their fans, but do on others, know the reason why?
