Gold panning without a pan. I never thought I would have to say that but hay.. GOLD PANNING WITH A BOTTLE? This method actually works because your applying the exact same method as you would with a pan. You just have to be extra careful when letting the water take the dirt off as you dont have the surface area like a pan. You learn this sort of stuff only once! Hope you enjoy.

Actually, this is a very old method. The old timers didn't have plastic so they used horns!! Either a ram's horn or a bull's horn. They used the horns to sample to find a good spot or try a new creek. If they got good color, they would then use something bigger ;)

My stepdad and I went to Reed Gold Mine a few weeks ago and I bought one of those small bags of sand that you can search for some gold. I don't even have a pan. It was an impulse buy because I have never actually tried panning for gold before. We were short on time and needed to come home. I might try this method to save money. I would like to try it at least. If it doesn't work, I can let the sand dry back out and get a real pan later. Or maybe try to make one with some white air dry clay. I think it is great you improvised and don't have to come home empty handed. Forgetting the simplest things can happen to anyone. Liked and subbed.

Thanks! I saw a tip in another video: Don't force the bottle to dip in and out of the water, let the waves of the water come in and naturally push back out. This keeps the heavy particles in the back of the bottle/pan, so you don't lose any when tipping.

I ride a bike to the river near me with my pack. I bring back cons in plastic coffee cans. I use a cat litter scoop from the dollar store as my classifier, and also a wire flour sifter from the dollar store, they sit in the coffee cans perfectly! I use a fork and a large nail to dig out crevices. You can get gold with minimal cash output, think outside the expensive sluicebox. P.s. I do have a sluice, but I only take it with me if I will be out all day. I made a sling for my sluice using 2 old belts so I can ride with it slung over my shoulder. Go out, have fun, get gold!

I always have a auto car mat with me,lots of light portable sluices in auto stores, often the underside has ideal gold traps in various shapes, roll it up shove it in the backpack. Today, at our large hardware store(Bunnings)i bought a mat with large dimples and what's underneath? yep, the reverse shape an ideal trap- one square meter , that's three sluices or one three meters long for fifteen Aussie bucks !! chicken dinner!! whenever i am panning i will use something similar to pan onto allowing stream to remove bits that are not gold.

A technique I use is an earth magnet to separate the black heavy materials from the gold. Works good in a clear bottle because the gold stays at the bottom of the bottle. When you pour contents out the magnet holds the black heavy in the bottle.
