The Madman Archetype

The Hermit archetype can also be seen as somewhat of a madman. Nietzsche evokes the figure of a madman who runs into the marketplace with a lit lantern in the bright morning hours, shouting that he is looking for God, while the crowd laugh at him. The madman mournfully declares, “God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.” In a similar fashion, Diogenes the Cynic would walk around in the marketplace in full daylight with a lamp. When asked what he was doing, he would answer, “I am looking for a man.” Most people weren’t even worthy of the category “human”, for that demands virtue. The people who walk around worrying about money, power, and social conventions are the real “madmen”. Diogenes, who rejected all social conventions in favour of a simple life in conformity with nature, is the only reasonable human being in sight.

@TheUnists WTF How would that naming even work if Diogenes literally discarded material possessions, to the point of telling off Alexander the Great to his face? The normals strike again, it seems.

@@xXPabloPeaconXxthere’s two types of chads. One is who is to himself and lives a modest life of self introspection in developing one’s character. The other is one who wants to change the world and help uplift others to the maximum potential. Both are equal to me, as all humans have their purpose in life and exist for a reason. I just choose to be the latter example, as I feel it’s my duty on this planet to uplift as many people as I possibly can while always understanding that I come as first priority before everyone else. No one has your back more than yourself

Nietzsche sends a man seeking God and Diogenes seeks a person. Both are really seeking for the same thing. Whether Nietzsche was conscious of his own genius is unknowable.

Diogenes was not a madman. He was too sane to dropped into normality.

This is a lamp but it is also a beacon... Look at the ppl claiming to be God... This is typical dialogue today .. I have observed this on multiple social media sites .. it actually sickens me to see how distorted the young set. So-called new agers have become bullied toward those! Who still keep God above themselves.. still look to God for strength and still pray to God through Christ and are not ashamed .. ❤

Was Zaratustra a mad man or a wise man, bro you got me lost. Hermit it's not Wiseman?
@justicegnosis

I believe what he’s saying is that the wiseman can also be the mad man from an OUTSIDE perspective. people who conform to false societal standards are MAD men. A wise man would see these are false and wouldn’t follow them and may be viewed as MAD from people who fail to see. I haven’t read Zarathustra but I believe he is a wiseman and that people may look at him as MAD.

Zarathustra isn't the mad man in this scenario. Zarathustra saw a mad man in the market who declared "God is dead."

@@justicegnosisok, I think the madmen would actively seek of these "truths", they'll create and walk their own paths, the wise men on the other hand, know bad from right, and also wouldn't conform to the mass - more as bystanders, making them different but probably not necessarily the "madmen"...
