Bea Arthur was in The Jefferson’s and, then, she got her own show, Maude! Then, Betty White she has a long history with tv and, when, I started growing up in the 70’s, I first watched her on the The Dick Van Dyke Show, But, they all were on the Mary Tyler Show and, they all were guest actors on a ton of shows for generations and, also were in movies through out their career!

You are wrong; Rose was already written as naive. During a casting session, Rue and White switches and read their roles. Originally, they wanted Rue for Rose, and White for Blanche. They switched reading the rollss one day during a casting session. THAT is how Betty they ended up in those parts, NOT the nonsense you say in your podcast. If you're gonna post stuff, post the truth.

Yes. It wasn't the Producers' idea to offer Betty the role of Rose. They were typecasting Betty and Rue for their roles of Sue Ann Nivens (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) and Vivian (in Maude). It was Jay Sandrich, the Pilot Director, who watching Rue read for Rose noticed she wasn't right for the part, so he asked her to read Blanche, she nailed it. Then and there, he decided the switching of roles.. 🪻🌿

I was 23 when this show first aired back in '85, and I was hooked. To this day, I watch the seven seasons repeatedly enough that I can recite any of their dialogues (drives my husband nuts lolol). Unfortunately, I also became a critic about the storyline inconsistency over the years. The writers could not keep track of simple but important timelines. Largest example: Dorothy and Stan had been married for 38 years, she being pregnant as the reason, yet neither child was 38 years old. Kate and Michael were far younger (one episode has Dorothy state Michael is 23 while his fiance is 44). Or the different genders of both Rose's or Blanche's children and grandchildren. But having said that, and now that I am FINALLY their age, this show will always have a special place in my heart.

Bea and Rue were good friends IRL. Rue was the one who got Bea to do this show. I just read Rue's book and while there may have been some tension with Betty, which was due more to the difference in their personalities, they didn't hate each other. Rue said that the 4 of them would go for lunch every day and Bea would insist on waiting to leave til all were ready to go. Like any relationship, especially ones that last years, you're going to disagree or get on each other's nerves from time to time but it doesn't mean you hate the person.

The only thing that irked me about Sofia was the fact he character was born and raised in Sicily, but didn't have a Sicilian accent, it was more of a Brooklyn accent. You don't lose your accent to gain another, no matter how long you're in a new country or setting.

This narrator says a lot but doesn’t really say much at all. He is more focused on articulating rather than telling the story. Fell flat

Along with Gilligan's Island and Green Acres, The Golden Girls was among the best comedy shows ever made for television. Oh, there were other important comedies, but none where you smiled the entire episode, every episode.

"The Page Of Wonder?" The only thing I'm wondering about is WHO decided to use AI narration for this otherwise interesting lookback. It's bad enough to have to listen to mispronounced names of actors, plus a tired droning voice in every sentence! Z-bornak..?? Give me a break!

Its not surprising they didn't always hang out and be the closest best friends off set. They were really all the stars yet all co-stars. All powerful women in their own right. They always remained professional though. Thats impressive. They spent so much time together working that they needed time with their own real lives separate from the closeness they had on screen.

They were not elderly women, except for Sofia. When the show started Blanche was 52 years old and Dorothy and Rose were both under 55. That's middle age lol

Kind of cute this (young) man calling them "4 elderly women." They were middle aged, still working. I'm now at the other extreme where anyone under 60 is "young!" 😮 😅 Well done video. Thank you! 👍

Elaine Sritch could have easily been the role of Dorothy. Similar personality to Bea Arthur. Also could have played the sister of Dorothy. She would have been a great addition to the show.

Strich would have been a harsher Dorothy. Plus, she was a a well known alcoholic.

@@sandisteinberg731 We'd probably be hearing swear words throughout the series from Elaine Stritch! Also other 4 letter words. The other Golden Girls, Blanche, Sophia,Rose Nylon would probably have a harsh time working with Elaine Stritch and she wouldn't be easy to work with at all. Like Bea Stritch most likely liked Vodka and maybe allot of cigarettes. Stritch's alcoholism might have been a major problem in doing the show.

@@albertcarello619 Yes. She was undoubtedly a major star, especially in theater, but difficult and alcoholic. Just the fact that this show business veteran presented herself so unprofessionally to 'the writer' and wouldn't acknowledge her mistakes suggest that she'd be a poor fit for the show.

@@sandisteinberg731 Don't expect Elaine Stritch to spare any words on and off TV. The other Golden Girls most likely would have struggled working with her.

Most likely Elaine Stritch would want to do things her own way and disregard what's in the lines she's supposed to memorize and impose her own ways and means . Talughla Bankhead would also do the same and impose her own means when it comes to rehearsals. Tallulah Bankhead was also like Elaine Stritch when it came to rehearsals and didn't cooperate with the directors on how to rehearse.

I could never imagine anyone other than Estelle playing sophia. I knew estelle was insecure, but she really became Sophia, and played Dorothy's mom perfectly. Bea said she had a hard time liking someone who was always so positive, and happy. No one can be that happy all the time, Bea once said. A bitter sarcastic aging actress, would have an issue with a lighthearted jovial type of person. Bea knew she was hardened, and she did try to lighten up around betty. Besides, with betty around, even the grumpiest person finds themselves smiling.
