I don't think they're hard to take care of at all. My mom bought a dying goldfish plant from the nursery and I mean it was well on its way out... and she repotted it put it hanging in a window in the kitchen facing west so it gets light but not directly and it looks just like this ladies plants now. And my mom by no means really does much with her plants 😂

😱😱😱No need to root in water? I am going to try that in a few minutes! My Goldie’s story.. I was given mine as a gift.. she was full and I mean full of little goldfish blooms.. a couple months later.. there were no more blooms..so I moved her on top of a cupboard out of direct.. much light.. I watered her every 3 or 4 days.. I decided to check closely one day because she looked unhealthy.. I apparently overwatered her.. most of her stems were rotting.. there were only a few left.. I repotted her into a big terra cotta plant pot.. and I only water when dry.. which is a couple times a week.. but I moved her beside the glass doors.. she gets all morning sun.. I hadn’t given her food all winter.. just water.. but she is huge and healthy again.. and a few weeks ago she started growing what looks like pre goldfish blooms.. several.. so I started feeding her last week.. once a week.. I hope these growths will turn into goldfish.

Thank you for the information on how to take care of Goldfish plants. I have about 75 plants and I just purchased and bought home my first goldfish plant today. I decided to come to YT to find out how to care for them and your channel came up first in my search. I was in my local nursery and saw this plant and decided I just had to have it. The label says Goldfish HB so I'm not sure if that means hybrid. The leaves are so shiny and beautiful. It had one flower on it but I must have accidentally knocked it off bringing it home. There are a lot of honey-colored leaves on the tips of almost all the stems so I guess that's the beginning of goldfish blooms. Thanks again, your information was extremely helpful and I have subscribed. I can't wait to see your collection grow.
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Good luck with your new goldfish plant! I think the flowers are so much fun on this one! I would guess the HB stands for hybrid too.

It has buds, but I can't find any information on how long from the time buds appear until they bloom. I want to make sure they actually flower and don't wither! Any advice would be awesome! Had it about a week and the buds haven't withered yet but they haven't shown much growth either... maybe more fertilizer? It has a grow light!

Loved this video 😊. I second the comment about adding in information about soil, pots, fertilizer etc. I just got a goldfish plant and it looks so sad. Dry leaves, light brown, falling off. It’s in a window that I thought was indirect light but maybe still somehow too much? 🤷♀️. I’ll try a new one. And maybe repot with the 3:1 soil:perlite mix. Maybe a little fertilizer to get it started and feeling better. Any other ideas? I’ll be frequenting your channel I’m sure, good presentation and info!
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary Ann! I don’t use much fertilizer with any of my plants, but I imagine it would be beneficial. My happiest goldfish is in indirect light, but they can be pretty finicky! Plastic pots seem to help with not drying out too quickly too.

Open up with Lynyrd Skynyrd?? Instant subscribe!! I bought mini goldfish plant last year at a grocery store. One of those little pots ya know? It’s gotten big enough to propagate now. I put some clippings in a small pot and it’s lately started wilting. So I cut the dead stuff off and plopped it in the soils. Am I doing something wrong?
@reshmasekar30843 жыл бұрын
Great video! Thank you :) How often do you/or do you fertilize them? If so, what fertilizer? I've got a goldfish but he isn't blooming. He's getting big though. Not sure if fertilizing will help with the flowering.
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually never fertilize my goldfish plants... they seem to do so well without it that I just leave them alone. I find that having them in the right lighting is the most helpful thing for getting them to bloom. Right now the plant with the most flowers is in a window that gets afternoon sun (but not direct sun, if that makes sense. The sun hits the wall perpendicular to that window.) I hope that helps!

Hi. I have a question about my Gold Fish plant. It is only about 2 years old & the leaves are falling of & the tips are going brown. I haven't over watered it & it was growing very well. there is no sign of fungus or anything else. Can you tell me what is happening & how to treat it. Thanks. Netty.
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi Netty! Is your goldfish plant right in a sunny window? If the leaves are drying up, it could be from too much sun. If they’re turning yellow, then brown, I think it’s a water issue. I let mine get pretty dry before watering, but it’s not picky about filtered water (I just use city water on all of my plants).

Hi! I just got a goldfish plant so I'm glad I found your video. I was trying to find out what is a good soil mix for this one to grown in? I imagine something well draining so maybe add some perlite or pumice to regular potting soil? Also I'm curious about fertiliser and if you keep the soil moist until the cuttings are rooted?
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I don’t actually fertilize these plants and they do really well! I use a mixture of about three parts potting soil and one part vermiculite or perlite and it not only helps with drainage but also keeps the fungus gnats at bay! Yes, i definitely keep the soil moist while the cuttings are rooting.

Hi Jen! I think you’re right that your goldfish might be getting a little too much sun. I would either pull it away from the window a bit, or put it off to the side just a little. @PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elsa! I don’t always let them callus over, but you definitely can! These are so easy to propagate, and not very picky. My older goldfish plant does have some balder areas, and I think that might be due to age. I’ve had it for several years. I like to take cuttings to guarantee the plant will live on. I also find that my goldfish plants don’t like their soil to be too moist. I let them get dry before watering.

I have had my goldfish plant for about a year and I have yet to see a bloom. Any suggestions on forcing a bloom or when can I expect it to bloom.
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Do you have your goldfish plant in a window that gets sun at least part of the day? I’ve found that helps in making sure they’re happy and flowering. Also, I let it get nice and dry before watering. It has slightly thicker leaves, which means they hold the moisture in and it doesn’t need to be watered quite as often as some plants.

Why do the branches of the goldfish turn woody/brown? Any tips on getting more blooms? Do they only flower off of new branches? Love this plant:)
@PlantMeHere3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roxy, I’ve noticed that my older plant (at least 10 years old) gets the woody branches. The cuttings I took from that one are flourishing. I think the best way to see new blooms is to take cuttings, and wait for them to show up on the new plants.

@PlantMeHere2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daisy! I sometimes wonder if Goldfish plants have a short lifespan because mine go through this too. I generally like to take cuttings from the healthiest part of the plant I can find and start a new plant. I think over time, it’s probably normal to get the woodier stems and drying leaves. When I take cuttings, I usually propagate them in soil, but I think another medium would work just as well if not better.
