Hello, Won the battle against Ich in my tank, Ritchie Blackmoor and crew are alive and thriving now thanks to your advice. Thank You! Currently running two cartridge filters in my 60 gallon tank? Wondering how often I should replace vs cleaning them monthly? Generally, I clean them every couple of weeks and change them monthly. Is this about right? Thanks

When you say a ‘cartridge filter’, is it a hang-on-back type?

I use hot tub water stabilizer. My local store’s in-house brand has only the active ingredients required to neutralize Chlorine and bind Chloramines (which are used here too). C$15 for 1L and my math based on the concentration is 0.25ml/10gal or 40L tap water. Ymmv Once again another great video.

I 100% agree with this guy. I used to do weekly water changes. Never had problems with algae or nutrient levels. 0 Amm, 0 No, and 0 Na. Sense I had 0 Na I decide oh I’ll just do water changes when they get high, now I have a bunch of algae issues and plants look funny. My best experience was replace around 20-30 percent twice a week and micro dose liquid fertilizer regardless of Na. Tap water has CO2 which is alot better than 1-2 week old stale tank water so good for introducing CO2 in low tech tanks. It also pulls unused nutrients for the plants and introduces fresh ones they need. Making it so the algae can’t feed on the left overs. Best thing I can do for my tank is FREQUENT WATER CHANGES

@FishKeepingAnswers thanks, that's perfect. I've been looking into what plants I can have with the fancies. They just eat everything. I'm going to reacquascape my tank with an anubias and crypt island, hopefully they survive. I'll also add some elodea as sacrificial plants, in case they want a nibble 🤣

Very beautiful❤ aquarium and very beautiful ❤ goldfish Can goldfish be kept with live plants? Won't they eat plants? Java moss?? It is too soft. Right? Goldfish won't eat it?
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
I keep live plants with all my fancy goldfish. Choose tough plants like Crypts, Anubias and Java Fern. They do pick at the Java Moss. If you put a small piece in they will probably eat it. If you put a large clump in it will almost certainly grow faster than they can eat it.
@santhoshn8419

@@FishKeepingAnswers Oh ok. Java moss, anubias look nice with fancy goldfish. How do you disinfect live plants before planting them in the aquarium. Because live plants carry pests. Right? Please tell.
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I never worry. Just buy them from a reputable store and you should be fine. Goldfish will quickly eat the majority of pests, including tiny snails 💪🏻

Been testing out API Aqua Essential. Does a good job dropping all levels of nit/nit/amm as well as tap water treatment. Can't go wrong with prime tho. May i ask this tank size? They are looking happy!

What size tank is that? I have 3 fantails, 1 pleco and 2 snails in a 200 L tank and do 60 L changes. Its planted with wood and rocks so really 175 L of water. I am newly returned to aquariums after 20 years and it is much more complicated than back then ! Or rather there is more information now.

@FishKeepingAnswers Thank you 😊 normally when getting new creatures I do loads of research before hand. But as I had fish before and thought I knew it all 🤣 this time I didn't! I brought a compleat set up. The filter would have been useless for one guppy, heater was unadjustable ect. I spent shed loads trying different ones and also atarted with plasic plants 😳 within a few months scraped it all, got a new tank and started again. I still had a fluval filter that's 25 + years old and still going strong when I tried it in their bigger tank. But I was amazed the pet shop that I got the fantails ( Billy, Barney and Bob) from still believe fish only grow to the size of their tank!!!!! Plus sold common plecos 😱 Anyway enough of ranting. Love your channel 👍 Goldfish are the best, like destructive puppies 🥰

Can you use distilled water would it make a difference good or bad???
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers 4 ай бұрын
You can use distilled water, but distilled water is free from any salts and minerals, so you will need to remineralise the water.

Do you find keeping fish cruel cause they have limited space and cant swim and explore the same way like in the wild do you think they are sad and how do you feel about it 🐠 I have goldfish too so don’t feel attacked 😂
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
Nope! Never considered it cruel, unless the fish keeper is deliberately being cruel, which does happen. My fish have a longer life expectancy than wild fish, have access to medicine when they are ill, live a life free from predators and arguably have access to a better diet than their wild cousins 😎
