This woman (and her primary creative partner, Will) gave me hope, at the turn of the century, when I feared that Music was dead. And hope they give me still. Now, to the issue at hand: can you *imagine* what George Dunning would have done with this amazing song in 1970...?
@ozhangups18 жыл бұрын
+BUDGIE KIDD Just noticed your comment about fearing that music was dead. Amazing that around 2000 I was thinking exactly the same thing and seeing as I turned my radio off completely around that time I went on the net looking for an alternative to the crap that they were playing and found the likes of Goldfrapp and similar artists in the Trip Hop genre and found dozens that here in Australia would never ever get played. Seems they all come from Europe and I now have 500 songs that I play to death. A friend once said to me its good to have something that no one has. Sounds a bit selfish but I'm worried that they would commercialise it and ruin it. If your ever interested I have a list of the artists I listen to and can let you know some of them. Its the best music I've ever heard.

The production value is great. But, have you followed her albums from Utopia, Supernature (the STRIPPER album), to The Seventh Tree. Clowns is a song about her boob job. Happiness is a song about giving your money to a cult, and Eat Yourself is a song about telling an (ex lover?) to off themselves. Utopia was a song based on Cabaret's Tomorrow belongs to me with the lyrics "FASCIST BABY". Has anyone considered Alison is doing concept albums around female psychopathy in the way David Bowie did concept albums around his brother's schizophrenia?

- A chance encounter with 'Utopia' on a free 'Chill' compilation, led me to 2000's 'Felt Mountain' then more CD's up to 2013's 'Tales of Us' - Before that, I didn't understand Golfrapps' reason for existence (at Festivals) - with daftly costumed dancers vying for attention with inaudible vocals - Happily, good mix levels on good recordings (with essential printed lyrics) made sense of it all! Her voice IS THE instrument, alongside Will Gregory's essential musical contributions (and Guitar, strings, etc) so no matter most of the lyrics are incomprehensible - she plays a poetic tune with her voice, and her breathing, unusually. Just like Opera, one can be moved to tears from these songs, without being sure exactly how or why ......

Thomas Dapper - it's "their" not "her". She's not a solo artist. Will out of sight, Will out of mind, I guess. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine as I see this same mis-characterization of Goldfrapp quite often.

This song is a beauty about her BOOB job. When you compare the songs on the Seventh Tree. You have Happiness a song about giving all your money to a cult (Scientology?). Eat Yourself a song about telling an ex lover to (Off themselves?). This album is post Supernature, which was the STRIPPER album. Has anyone considered Alison Goldfrapp is doing concept ALBUMS about female PSCYHOPATHY in the way David Bowie did Concept albums about his brothers alleged schizophrenia? Utopia could have been played for the THIRD REICH-kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hahlhNKqnbCslH0.html. It has a similar melody to Tomorrow Belongs to Me from Cabaret and even states "FASCIST BABY". A Ying to Heath Ledger's Yang. In Batman The Joker gives three different stories on how he got his trademark smile and none of them match insinuating psychopathy.

Jagjeff66 Did you ever notice that Alison Goldfrapps' voice is an instument itself? She could be singing poo-poo-caa-caa-doo-doo in this song and it would still sound just as great. If you want something without "dumb" lyrics, go attend a slam poetry session - but this is a musical performance right here.

Not dumb lyrics at all. It's about a woman with fake boobs and a fake tan and Alison's disbelief that any woman would want to look like that. Why is that dumb?
