Couldn't figure out why controllers were laughing after you called for a class B transition starting at 3:57 - took a few listens. 4:18 ATC tells Cirrus "need your best rate of climb to 5,000, traffic 1 o'clock 5 miles eastbound a Seneca." Cirrus responds "Trying to get it up." Controllers cracking up the next two transmissions. Great job on the video, I used Gold Seal for my written and scored 92%. Highly recommended!

absolutely fantastic, felt like I was in a classroom in the sky, loved it from start to end.

Flew freight into KATL back in the early 90s. Mostly light to med twins, 402,404,Commanders, MU-2s etc. Mixed in with the heavies was stressful as "keep your speed up" was continuous. 2 missed calls and you were kicked out of sequence. Many a time I would have a 747 dragging his feet and when those guys hit the L lights it was like the sun came out.Stay firewalled until flare, dump the flaps, nose forward and slam it down. Making the 1st turn was not a option. Spent 1/2 my life sitting on Dixie.

Thanks for this. I just got my part 107 and this is a great real life example for listening when people might be cutting it close to wherever I am. I would like to fly someday.. thanks for all these camera angles.

I used to think flying would be 'swanning around' and looking at the scenery. I found you were thinking and alert all the time in practice. You just showed me how much attention is needed in a busy airspace, and I'm impressed that you could run a commentary at the same time. You also taught me I could never aspire to being a traffic controller. Luckily I am now retired and can simply 'play' at my hobby via flight sim. I always get home safe, and my flying is largely free of fees and costs - even if I bingle. Your presentation was most impressive... Thanks.

Great video, im from Atlanta, used to come in and out of Winder and Dobbins in OV-1 Mohawks, have blown right across ATL like u did but at 145kts in an EMS EC-135 cleared to cross South to North at 700ft to Grady and Emory, good times!

Very nice video. I'm a student pilot out of Concord NC (Charlotte), Class D Airport under Class B Airspace good radio communication is a must. I flying A Cherokee 140 which i pickup several months ago enjoying every minute.

Excellent video, took a lot of the mystery out of this kind of flight, great presentation and very well filmed. It is clear why you need to do your homework ahead of time. Thank you. In our old glider port we used to be towed up to 3000, which kept us below and outside of Class B, then we would release and thermal up once we went north and passed a water tower that marked the airspace boundary. Crude, but effective, though a lot of other VFR traffic would be skimming just below the floor of B, so you really had to watch for them. The point being that just because you are near a B boundary, or cleared to enter one, doesn't mean you should stop looking, as this video well illustrates.

When he's talking to viewers , the radio talk blends in making it hard to tell what he is saying. Good video quality and altogether very good production. Thanks.

Jeez. That bravo is bonkers. The other day I was flying with a Friend we had waypoints to avoid bravo but had flight following. They ended up clearing us direct which was great. But wow it wasn’t nearly that busy. For a student I got some great experience that day. Pop up ifr into the destination airport, along with filing an ifr flight plan to head out. Due to a marine layer that came in off the ocean from 400-700’. Was wild looking. Love you guys. Of course I’m a gold seal student. Thanks to Dan Gryder one of my aviation hero’s.

At one time made regular trips from Gaithersburg Maryland to Cape Cod and Ft. Lauderdale.These were VFR flights mostly. Always asked center at BWI for flight following. Once done never had transitioning issues with Class B airspace as they handed me off to inroute towers to destination. There is no reason not to ask for flight following.

Naval Air Station Atlanta closed and property was transferred to Georgia National Guard in 2008-2009 time frame. I was stationed at NAS Atlanta from 2000 to 2003, good location to be at.

Also at 16:40 I like saying “ident’ing”. You said don’t ever say with a flash... the trainer aircraft I fly sometimes has gremlins and doesn’t want to cooperate, letting ATC know I’m trying and there might be a problem.

I've been flying around Chicago for 4 years now and I've not once been cleared into the O'Hare bravo. I've only made the request handful of times, though, and usually on early weekend mornings when they weren't so busy. Still, I've found that Chicago Center is really reluctant to handle VFR traffic. Getting flight following from them is probably 50/50, in my experience.

I'm confident that no one else will be commenting on this. But at 12:05 you can see one of those new diverging-diamond interchanges. The lanes of traffic actually switch sides to eliminate left-turn conflicts and turn the whole system into a 2-phase traffic light (which flows better than the standard 4-phase). Idk how many other traffic theory nerds are also into aviation, but the two go well together! It's cool to see stuff from the air that you normally only get to see in Cities Skylines and Google Maps.

I got out an old (2006) Atlanta sectional while watching this and it’s got what is now Atlanta Speedway (or Henry County) airport listed as Clayton County/Tara field… I did my primary flight training out of PDK in 2001-2002 but have been out of the cockpit for 15 years now. Looking to get back in and build a Van’s RV soon.
