I did this a few years ago. Got a 3,4 hybrid and a Tommy Armour sickle 24° to replace the 3,4,5 iron. No regrets.

What an excellent breakdown Mark and some great advice too. I find about the same thing. I leave off at my 7 iron and have a 27 degree hybrid that I can use to replace the 7 and also get me to the same 18 degree Cleveland 3+ you are using....which is a very versatile club. I bought at your recommendation btw. Older video but still very relevant.

Great idea you've just convinced me to dump my 5 iron for a similar lofted hybrid for confidence and probably consistency this just makes sense for a weekend golfer like myself

Great explanation thank you, I'm looking at the TSR1 hybrid today, idk I've seen so many review on this line and it's gotten so many positive reviews for that slower swing speed, a little bigger profile and lighter on weight, the only think I'm not sure of is that there saying the shafts are cut longer on this TSR1 line and not sure I like that, anyway I'll give it a few looks and make take that half inch off lenth , thanks Mark great content

Love your advice you've confirmed for me to get rid of my 4 and 5 iron for hybrids I'm in my early sixties and don't generate enough club head speed for longer irons now as a weekend golfer the game is meant to be enjoyable and hybrids have been brilliant for me confidence wise over these shots

High handicapper here : After 3 wood 5 wood ( no driver)! Its then all about my - Adams pro 4 hybrid and Mizuno JPX 6 hybrid. Above are essential for me - as Mark says extra launch is what it is all about ! After that it's my irons 8 and PW SW and putter- yes its a 1/2 set 😄! Try hybrids they are easy and fun and go high and far !

I just stumbled across this video. You make some good points. One problem I see with the average amateur is they get caught up in the number of the club while not taking into account the degree of loft on the face. I use a "4-hybrid" and a "4-iron". My hybrid has 21* of loft, and my 4-iron has 24* of loft. My carry distance difference is 15 yards from the hybrid to the 4-iron. Look at the clubface loft and hit the demos on the range before you buy 2 clubs that hit the ball the same distance or leave you 30 yards between clubs.

Im sold on hybrids. As I have gotten older, my dustances have decreased using standard irons so I have slowly gravitated to hybrids 3 iron thru PW. They have made golf much more fun

More hybrids = more fun for this 12 handicap. My shallow attack angle has always lead to consistent ball striking with hybrids. I replaced 3 thru 5 irons seven seasons ago. The jacked up lofts of my Callaway Mavrik & increased age lead to inconsistency with mid irons. I replaced those with super game improvement hybrid iron replacements. Wedge is my first traditional iron. My approach shots are higher, straighter, longer, & more consistent. Shots from the rough are easier to advance. I get razzed about my mis-matched gamers but I’m at peace with it. I like to think I’m progressive & ahead of the trend curve. I’d rather shoot 78 with my hybrids then 95 with sleek players clubs. I enjoy the game more when I have confidence in my ball striking. If a player is more confident with a large hybrid profile & has average or below swing speed, give it a try for a season. Pre-owned hybrids are inexpensive so it’s a low financial risk.

Great Video. I've got a game improvement 6 iron at 25.5 degrees and a 7 wood 21 degree. Would a 5H at 25 or a 4H at 22 be a better fit in the bag? Safe to assume both hybrids can adjust +/- 1 degree.
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline Жыл бұрын
The numbers/lofts don't always blend so it would always be worth testing and seeing some numbers, you might find you get a good gap from the 25* hybrid from the 6-iron though, especially if there's an option to loft it down if needed

Really love the advice here, it’s really making me want to pull the trigger on another hybrid, but wanted to get your thoughts. Currently, I’m playing with Callaway Maveriks, and I have my Driver (10.5), 3 Wood (15), 3 Hybrid (19) and then I’ve been playing without my 5 Iron (23) and starting my irons at 6 (26). The rest of my irons fall in intervals of 4 degrees. I’ve been looking at the Rogue series, specifically the ST Max 6H (26) or a ST Max OS 5H (24). On paper, would you recommend either or a different degree as I wrap my head around what I should be trying out?
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback and glad you're enjoying the content! In short, the ST Max OS hybrid will have a larger head shape with some offset but provide slightly more forgiveness on off-centre strike, whereas the standard ST Max hybrid will be a more compact head (still with a good amount of forgiveness, especially over an iron equivalent) that some people prefer at address and may allow you to play more of a variety of shots/shot shapes if you wanted to. The standard ST max may have a more similar appearance to the standard Mavrik if that's something you're looking for, if not, the added forgiveness of the OS may appeal. In terms of getting the right loft, unfortunately there's not really a replacement to testing them out to see what fills the gap in your bag better/helps you hit the distances you want it to. I wouldn't assume a similar lofted irons and hybrids would produce the same distance results, but being that you 6-iron starts from 26 degrees, I'd expect a 26 degree hybrid to go slightly further than this so both the 26 and 24 degree hybrids should fit nicely somewhere in the gap. Hope this helps

20 handicap...I have a Callaway XR hybrid set 4 and 5 hybrid...6 thur AW. Recently purchased TaylorMade Stealth Irons 5 thur AW. Big mistake! Keeping the Callaway Hybrids with the Stealth irons. What hybrid would replace the 5 iron?
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline 11 ай бұрын
Hi, unfortunately the XR hybrids are discontinued with callaway, you may want to look at the big bertha range as they offer hybrids from 6 to 9, try out your local fitting centres to find the correct hybrids that fits in between your 5 hybrid and 6 iron. our suggestion would be the 8 or 9 hybrid.

So as a beginner which Hybrid (hybrids) should i be looking at having. I have a Driver and 7,8,9 PW, SW. Im green as and bought all my clubs by watching KZfaq.
@GolfShopOnline

Hi, between your driver and 7 iron is a big gap, i would suggest filling this gap with more than one club. most people would have one hybrid, possibly a 5 hybrid followed by a 3 and 5 fairway. you may want to close the gap between the 7 iron and 5 hybrid with either another iron or higher loft hybrid. if you would like to contact us about this please do give us a call.

I know you bag 2 hybrids. What are your thoughts on dropping one of them for a 5 Wood? Any of you more experienced golfers feel free to help me out here. Trying to understand more before I add clubs to my iron set (5 through 9 + PW and SW, no other wedges)
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline 11 ай бұрын
Swapping a hybrid out for a 5/7-wood is a great option for ultimate forgiveness, particularly if you find yourself hitting the same kind of shots with it every time. Hybrids allow for a bit more "playability", the smaller head helps people feel more comfortable hitting different ball flights/types of shots. A lot of it is personal preference, but one of each that just about crossover in terms of distance could be a good way to go

New golfer. So if my 5i is 20.5 degrees, should I keep my 3hy that’s 19? I do have a 5W that’s 18 too. Pretty close together. But I can’t swing a 3W. What should I do?
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline Ай бұрын
Put all of them in play and see how you get on. If they all perform well and suit different shots and you have the space in the bag to have them all then great. For example, if they all go slightly different distances or the fairway works better from the tee, but maybe the hybrids better from the fairway etc, then that's a win. Being slightly different lofts AND different types of clubs, I imagine these might nicely fill the distances at the top-end of your bag, especially if you don't get on with the 3w anyway. However, if you're finding the distances are too similar, a couple of them crossover, or your hitting 1/2 of them better than the other and can cover that distance gap, then take it out and have a look to see where you might be able to fill another more useful gap in your bag. Hope this makes sense and helps!

Just changing out my 4 & 5 iron and replacing with a 23 degree hybrid. Highest iron will be a 6 followed by the new hybrid, then 7 wood, 5 wood and driver.

I blend my 3 and 4 hybrids exactly the same. But instead of carrying a 6 iron, I found a cobra one length utility 4 iron that's almost identical to my 6 iron yardage (because it's the length of a 7 iron). So it replaces my 6 with the added versatility a UI brings for getting out of trouble and going under trees😂

@@GolfShopOnline stumbled upon the solution quite by accident by finding the odd little Club on clearance at my local PGA superstore. What surprised me is how easy the thing is to hit! Utility irons are Infamous for their difficulty but I stripe this club just about as well as I hit my 7-iron

What about a 7 wood? How can we fit it into the equation?
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline Жыл бұрын
It depends what shots you're looking to play with the clubs, they're both great options and you can play both if the lofts/gapping allows. A 7-wood will provide ultimate forgiveness and is great to repeat stock shots etc whereas hybrids still provide an element of workability if you're looking to play a few different shots (high/low/draw/fade etc)🏌️‍♂️
