In any golf iron fitting at 2nd Swing, the first step for our master club fitters is to dial in which golf iron category the golfer fits into. Today, golf club manufacturers design golf irons with a wide range of technologies, performance characteristics, and appearances to make sure they can provide a model for any golfer.
In this video, 2nd Swing's Jackie Johnson and Drew Mahowald conduct a Trackman test with several TaylorMade golf irons to showcase the difference in various golf iron categories.

Always enjoy Jackie's videos. The P770 numbers are quite good, Jackie! The spin and the height are really good. Seems like a nice blend of distance and control for you. I also like this approach where we don't have to see someone bashing balls into a screen over and over, too. Although I would like to hear maybe a couple of shots with each just for the sound difference. But great video! Nice round-up. I wondered why the Stealth wasn't in there at first, but I really don't think there'd be much difference between the Stealth and the Sim2. It's so crazy that the 7-iron in the MBs is almost 3º WEAKER than the 8 iron of the Sim2s.

Any video with Jackie in it is a good video. Would have been fun to have both the P7MB & P7MC in there, not a lot of difference between the 2 but the P7MC does fit between P770 and P7MB. Although I have played TM irons in the past, do not do so at the moment but if I needed new irons P770s would be high up on the list of possible replacements - I have tried them in the past and really enjoyed them, whereas I did not enjoy the P7MC which felt very hard to me.

Just got fitted for the P790 today. They swing like a wet dream. Can't wait to have them in hand. Played my whole life and dreamed of getting a fitted set. Special ordered 3 weeks out. I did try Mizuno Pro 225 but they felt head heavy and I was inconsistent hitting them unlike very consistently hitting the 790.

I’d say game improvement irons are great for slower swing speeds and players that don’t have the distance. But if you hit a long ball taming something like a sim2 is haaaaard. I gamed Wilson d9 for a minute. My stock 7i carried 180-183y but I could easily carry it 200y. In the end I got sick of sending it over the back of greens and went back to my Wilson v6 and I have zero regrets. Distance control is wayyyyy more consistent

What you just said is very important! A player with speed but clearly needs game improvement irons are hard to fit. Many times I get the lofts weakened to reduce the chance of a flier that goes much further than normal distances - Thomas

A little off topic but it's about time you guys do a complete Cobra iron line comparison with Jackie or another tester with average swing speeds. Cobra has a bunch of good options out there that clicks off all the boxes and categories.

I wish you would have put the P7MC in this video. Especially since you can quickly run by the MB as "its not for you unless you're pro". Nobody watching this video should play that club. And I am very interested in the P7MC vs P770 as a 5 handicap.

The best guy in my league is 70 and games these in his entire bag driver, wood etc. Lol 2.76 hcp

Game improvement can work for great players if it’s a good matchup. I’m not the lowest HC at 8 but I can hit a decent ball and I gamed the Wilson D9 for awhile and there were plenty of upsides. Hitting a 9i 160y for carry evokes a lot of confidence, 4i 230-240 into par 5s again gives you confidence. But sometimes you get these crazy low spin flyers on full swings that never stop and in the end I threw away too many good looks by not holding greens. I’ve switched back to Wilson tour v6 which are the shortest clubs I’ve ever gamed but by good do they stick a green and the distance control at times feels like a joke. Front and back dispersion is tiny.

I would agree P7MC is more of a CB than P770. The intention of the video was to showcase the types of irons that golfers can fit into without the video length getting too long. Thanks for watching - Thomas
