Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZfaq channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Between the lost ball, the drive going less than 100 yards, and taking so many shots on one hole you lose count, this is the closest Rick Shiels has ever come to playing golf like me

It's interesting. But everybody had to master those clubs and balls and style of the game. Sure, they got in with more strokes, but it was fair, much like it is today. Although tech nowadays is arguably making the game slightly unfair. I mean, if you have the BEST ball in the world, and the best clubs, and they're fitted for you and feel perfect, you're going to have a huge advantage versus somebody who doesn't even know what the best clubs are for them. I'm not a clubs guy really. I can play with mostly anything. I like specific clubs, but like Jack Nicklaus said it's only a piece of iron. Hit the ball with it

Rick, You forgot to cut them in half. As you say always say "it wouldn't be a ball review, without cutting them in half" especially the the feathered one to see what feathers they used back then. Maybe you can do another review using these balls with the clubs they used back then also. That would make it very interesting
@lburwell99

I'm wondering if the ball you lost and the wooden one would actually react better an go farther with a long iron than your modern driver or wood. Those balls being smooth and solid won't compress and bounce off the hollow headed club like a modern ball. Wonder if the hollow head is giving toouch give and reducing the punch it would get into it otherwise. Great video!

Being on the subject of golf balls, I remember the wounded balata Dunlop 65 when I was a kid. Grown up good golfers, using persimmon woods of the day, had a very specific ball flight, somewhat reminiscent of a jet fighter taking off. Low start with lots of speed, and then it rose up at the end of the flight. See if you can recreate that.

I saw another KZfaqr do this - but they did it with the real old clubs. The feathery ball is actually a decent ball hit with a wooden club. As is the guttie from 1895. Modern Drivers are for a trampoline effect and old school wood is to wallop and bounce the ball off the face hence the lack of distance.

I have some old UK old size golf balls from the 60/70s ( smaller circumference) if you would like to play a round of golf with your golf mates using them, maybe dress up with the old golf shoes and glenmuir jumpers etc!
