"Gollum's Song" has been one of my most requested songs over the past decade. I've put it off for so long, knowing full well I could never do justice to the original version which features the most beautifully haunting vocal performance by Emilíana Torrini. However, out of pure love for this piece, I just had to say yes when my friend Alex asked if I would sing it for his Lord of the Rings rescore project. I hope you enjoy! I thoroughly enjoyed singing it; I love the Lord of the Rings just as much as I did when I first watched the trilogy as a child and it was a joy to finally cover this piece.

Rachel's voice is softer than Emiliana Torrini, and I think it lends itself better here. If Emiliana's version was like a lamentation, Rachel's is like a eulogy. It's the difference between Gollum dying slowly vs already gone. Both valid, but I like this cover a lot.

This was the song featured in the trilogy which resonated most strongly with me. Loss is the human experience. In time, all is lost. How we deal with that shapes our character. Like Poe said, "So being young & dipped in folly, I fell in love with melancholy."

This, is one of the most soul wrenching versions of this song I have heard. It's beautifully done, from the slow funeral-dirge esq music, to the cadence and softly mourning lyrics. It is, hands down, one of the best renditions you've ever produced.

Once upon a time, I was very fortunate to sing in a project choir, who sang all the singing parts live + an orchestra was playing the music score live while the movie was running.
