@@brooks274 Of course in Neapolitan it has more effect and a whole other thing. I am Neapolitan and I obviously follow him, but being a series broadcast throughout Italy, there are subtitles in Italian, because obviously they don't understand Neapolitan. Do you think that American actors are dubbed by the greatest Italian theater actors. It's not easy to dub them only the best can. The best dubbing is the Italian one. They are great when they lend their voices to the greats of American cinema. Sometimes I also follow American films in their original language in English, to hear their voices. Luck is that I can follow in English and in my Italian language.

What makes Gomorrah different compare to all other series about the world of crime and mafia is how its written. This series goes into its dark and ugly side of that world without even showing hardly any violence as we see in American shows. Gomorrah does it with its complex set of characters, holding no excuses or compromise, without any mercy or empathy. Every minor or major character on this show was expandable at any given moment, you are thrown into the pit of snakes, with treachery at every corner. This is one of the most well written and great cast of actors I have ever seen in the last decade or more that really took me by surprise, the plot twist and character development on this surpassed almost that came before it and probably in years to come.

The funny thing is that most of us Italians while liking the series can't understand what they say and need subtitles too. I do understand 70-80% of what they say but sometimes have to guess or rewind a few seconds and hear it over, my wife never saw more than a few minutes (of the original Gomorra movie too) because she says she doesn't understand a word :-D The Napoletano dialect is fascinating on many grounds but really hard to understand by people outside of the Campania region, same for our northern dialects with people from Rome towards south not understanding a thing.. :-D

@ClaudeMagicbox

@@Ruhnum Algghough formally there is a nationalistic vibe in the country under the ashes things are the same more or less. The cultural differences are really too wide... northern italians have a mentality forged through centuries of influence by the French and German rulings, southern Italians by the Spanish and Arabs.... you can imagine what that means. Northerners are generally more quiet and reserved, tend to put work in front of other interests and in general are more straight foreward...southerners are more open, louder and a bit more "actors" or drama-queens as you might say.

Salvatore Conte's 2 most famous quotes (in my opinion): "the truth is that in Naples I left a gang of f🅾️ols who can't even find a dℹ️ck inside their underwear" Driver- But is it the same as the real one? (Referring to the electronic cigarette that Salvatore was smoking) Salvatore - how an assh🅾️le looks like a babà. (The babà is a famous pastry of Naples, very good... But he said it precisely because he doesn't look like us, he was sarcastic) Driver- Well, you're right, better think about your health! Salvatore- I don't give a damn about my health. Driver- Excuse me, but if you don't care about your health and you don't like this electronics, why don't you smoke real cigarettes? Salvatore- Every year I choose something I really like and do without it. The man who can do without everything is afraid of nothing.

Breaking Bad shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as The Wire, Sopranos and this. BB was and is just entertainment handed on a plate. America has shown the world how good it is at drama but BB is simply giving the audience what they want for ratings. Lame Of Thrones was the same. And Gomorrah can't be compared to Sopranos or you miss the point of the Sopranos entirely. This is a depiction on real life in Naples. Sopranos is more melodrama, about how a man handles his two families - mob and blood - with the challenges of modern life such as angst ridden teens, a materialistic wife, an unreliable heir to the throne and the traditions of the mob rule eroding. Both are equally as 'great' in their own way.

With Ciro death at the end of season 3, I can't help but wonder about the direction this show will take. I only watched it thus far because of the intriguing relationship that both Genny and Ciro entertained.... I mean, don't get me wrong the script is well put together, the actors are great, the visuals are amazing and the editing makes it one of the best crime shows since the sopranos and the wire. But now WHAT ?

Yeah....are you sure Ciros' dead? I mean they faked a death or two in season 3. But I agree, the series does become less interesting without Ciro de Marzio rummaging around. I'll also miss Scianel too. Didn't like Patrizia killing her.

@@bobbymobay yup Ciro dies at the end of season 3 and that one does not look like a fake death. Have you seen the last episode of season 3 ? The one where they're all on the boat. Unless Genny was handed a fake gun Ciro is goooone

Maybe I’m just a big do-gooding softy, but I struggled to give a f*** about the Ciro di Marzio character after he’d pointlessly tortured to death a teenage girl. Still continued to watch the series but after THAT scene my head and heart just weren’t in it anymore.

Yeah I hated him so much after that. I couldn't believe it. I also hated when he killed Imma. But in s2 the character began to grow on me, seriously watch s2 if you haven't. He becomes repentant and starts having mercy on people and stops killing, and he's also a really good boss too. Now I consider him one of the greatest tv characters of all time.

In Italy we have oviously already seen all the series and currently the new started (I think it's S4 or S5) and you can't believe what kind of monster Genny Savastano becomes...*spoiler alert*.... he also goes into legitimate "high life & business" by buying a huge London based Finalcial Fund using his blood stained billions... wait and see what he does to employees and smart asses in London :-D
