Gon's character was written far more realistically than your typical anime kid protagonist. That's why he's tragic, unpredictable, and careless in how he behaves. That's how kids are when they go through the kinds of things Gon has. He's a brilliant, moving character. People that hate Gon probably look at a child acting out or not understanding how to best handle a situation as "bad" too.

I've always thought of Gon's actions in the ant arc as him blaming himself for not being strong enough for kite and pushing killua away because he thought that Killua shouldn't have to be involved with something he caused. You can also see the 5 stages of grief play out throughout the arc as well as how Gon snapped because he needed to put his anger onto someone who happens to be pitou since they were the one who killed kite. As a 12yo who is facing the death of a loved one for the first time, I think his character was really well written and realistic.
@cuffy7941
@cuffy7941 Жыл бұрын
This is on point. I think hes one of the most realistic protagonists especially for his age. And the characters that surround him compliment him and his evolution very well. Even with killua being there. Being someone who has killed and seen death his entire life, hes naturally gonna have a much cooler head and better disposition in these scenarios. Like he said gon is an open canvas and it shows in how he deals with so much in such a short time.

@@dawnstartheanimeman exactly! He probably saw his entire journey to find his dad as "if you're not strong enough, you're not worthy of finding Ging" because Ging made it seem that way when it really wasn't. That's why he's always risking his life to train time and time again (heavens arena, greed island etc) so as to be able to make progress in gaining that strength. But in reality it just wasn't the case. Of course Ging tested Gon but it wasn't as much as Gon had expected it to be because they literally met during an election in the most normal way possible without Gon having to do some crazy stuff which proves that all his actions in the past were kinda meaningless when it comes to finding Ging. This really shows his trauma when it comes to abandonment because he feels like he needs to be good enough to meet his father. Gon seems like a simple character on the surface but he's actually a pretty complex one and that's why I love his character so much

I always liked the scene where Zepile, Gon, and Killua are having lunch. Getting to know each other and sharing information by answering back and forth questions. In that moment Zepile has a great thought to himself: "now I understand why this kid interests me. He doesn't care about right or wrong. When I admitted to making forgeries and when that trader gave me a hard time, he didn't react with accusatory glares or plot his own evil deeds. His reaction was very simple. Innocent curiosity. He opens his mind to everything that impresses him, either right or wrong. Which means that he's dangerous. Someone who can never truly be appraised."

Gon's moral opinion of someone being based solely on whether that person is affecting his life in a positive or negative way is probably one of the most realistic character traits of any fictional character ever. It's the foundation of pragmatism and probably how morality works for the majority of human beings (and other animals as well for that matter). It is in our nature to intuitively appreciate others who positively impact our lives, since it is one of the most important social mechanisms for bonding with other people and therefore increasing our chances of survival. That, however, means that how our lives develop and whether or not our life can be judged as 'good' or 'bad' is mostly up to circumstances. Good influences can lead to good actions, and likewise for bad influences. This is what makes Gon's journey so fascinating. His story, his character and his actions are mostly up to circumstances and therefore almost unpredictable. It's what makes HxH so special and relatable, since our lives work in a very similar way to Gon's story.

Well Gon is not a human in a classical sense. There is a very good theory with so many proves that Ging is the Mother of Gon. He was conceived by Nen and Ging. How? If you read some cards of the Greed Island Game you can see how. For example Card 7 is the so called Pregnancy Stone (if you bear the stone for 1 month with you, you will get pregnent even if you are a male, also you can decide what gender your baby will have based on the fact if you bear the "female" or "male" pregnancy stone). Gon was on Greed island as a baby so it would make sense if Ging used the stone to get pregnent, he got gon who was born on greed island. Gon has much Nen that would explain why. Also there is Card Nr.99 the Panda Maid (This Panda is very good with kids/babies and cares for them), Gon probably give Gon as a Baby to the Panda and after a while to Mito. This would also explain why Gon is so good with animals. We know that Ging is a hustler so if he would have had inpregnated a Woman he probably would never knew that she was pregnant, i cant imagine that Ging would stay by a Woman for 9 months. Why would Ging use this? Well Ging is a curious guy he probably just wanted to test things out. Also there is Card Nr.33 The Hormone Cookie (a cookie which changes your gender for 24h, this card contains 10boxes with 20 cookies each ).

"Hunter's are selfish creatures by nature." -Gin Gon's character doesn't exist in a vacuum. Leoreo, our poster boy for compassionate characters was fully prepared to cut someone for failing to use proper honorifics with him. Almost everything said about him reflects on Gin and Isaac Netero's personality as well. The largest difference is that while Netero was pulling off his selfish suicide gambit that would have absolutely doomed the human race if Meruem so much as refused to engage him in a fight Netero never despised himself, he despised everyone. His last words as he activated the Poor Man's Rose by ending his own life, "You will never comprehend the pit of infinite darkness at the center of the human heart." Gon tried to punish himself for his own weakness with his Nen metamorphosis, defied it. Netero gave into his by activating the Bomb.

@Voxhalll
@Voxhalll Жыл бұрын
He didn’t really ‘hate’ everyone, Netero despised weakness in others and only truly respects strength. His entire arc during the series is pretty much trying to find someone who can challenge him, & that’s why we also see him as coy as he is during the blimp game versus Gon and Killua. Even that rare act of kindness of Netero slowing down the blimp so Gon could finally get rest was only after he succeeded in making him use his other hand, of which Netero truly respected. He’s neutral to most people-as at the end of the day his purpose and calling in life is finding someone who can give him a challenge, and 99% of the world can’t do that. That’s why he’s so alive during the ant king fight, and also why he does a mental note that he had to hurry up & fight Meurem or he may end up agreeing with him. His ultimately selfish desire for a challenge overpowers his morality, and that sums up his character pretty much

I like how you pointed out that Gon being a blank slate, we don’t know what he’ll turn out once he grows and fleshes out his personality. I feel like after the Chimera Ant arc, he’s learning how to mature. It first shows with what happens after he talks to Ging on top of the tree, where he starts to live as a normal kid again (studying and living with his parental figure). I wouldn’t be surprised that whenever we see Gon again, he’ll have grown a little bit emotionally and mentally too but still perhaps with a couple hiccups here and there because let’s face it, 15/16 year olds are more mature than 12 year olds but there are still things you did when you were 15/16 that you regret due to you still being immature at the time

Right. When people analyze Gon and his morality, sometimes they gloss over the fact has Killua has done objectively worse things. That being said, one part of Killua is that over the course of the series, he becomes a lot more compassionate and human. Killua was groomed by his family to become an infamous assassin, while Gon was raised in a somewhat normal environment (minus his interactions with feral animals, which I do believe had a big role in his naivety in the latter events), and he doesn't really develop emotionally. If anything, he regresses. I think that both Gon and Killua are very humanistic characters, just living in dark worlds.

The opposite is also true: Gon genuinely thanks Binolt for helping them (even tho Binolt was not acting on his own will) while despising Nobunaba because Binolt was useful to him. At the same time he wont worry too much about his friends putting theyr lives on the line like he wont hesitate putting his own life on the line, like when he went to the Zoldyck's "house" or when he risked his life helping Kurapika. And if you intrigue him enough, he might even want to be your friend. He's not "selfish" as much as he is childish. The world of HxH is a lot more terrifying than our world so I can't fault a literal child for thinking this way. The problem here is the (lack of good) parenting from Mito who would literally let Gon go out and play in a forest full of dangerous animals since he could walk and talk without any adult supervision which likely made him abide to the "survival of the fittest" rule. People (like GLR/NWR) often say that Gon became more selfish past the Hunter Exam arc but that couldn't be more untrue. In that same arc, he befriended Killua who he found interesting even after he watched him rip someone's heart out, watched the climber dude get eaten by the giant bird without being scared, leave the bee girl behind in a dangerous place because she isn't his friend, etc. He was never the oh-so-innocent character people made him out to be but just another kid with his own set of values born from a traumatic/neglectful childhood. TLDR: Gon thinks very similar to the wild animals he grew up observing. If you don't disturb him, he won't "disturb" you (as long he has nothing to gain).

I think that's the beautiful thing about Gon. We feel he makes the wrong choices and we feel he is selfish because he (and we) are. Most of the protagonists are written as having some morally riotous reason for doing everything they do. They all have their "uncle ben" moment. Gon's a 12 year old who wants to see how strong he can be because he wants his dad to notice him. He is as truly human of a character as I've ever seen. He never becomes a parody of himself, he's just himself.

This is hinted at by the fact that knuckle refused to give Gon information that would humanize the royal guards because he thought he would hesitate and therefore increase the risks. He would probably threaten it all the way to the moment he would be forced to do it and then stop. > Gon actually has incredible reasoning feats that are more realistic and surpass most of the hxh characters. Think about how he had his team escape the last part of the big tower in the hunter exams. When he noticed that the weapons in the room could break the walls, so he convinced his teammates to take the longer route and make a hole in the wall to connect it to the short route. I'm kind of upset that the author didn't focus much on these aspects of Gon. Because he set him up to potentially be one of the most clever people, just significantly less trained than everyone else. > Gon is more like the person that would intervene if someone was working towards harming people/ was in the process of causing damage, but not if someone evil wasn't doing anything that could endanger people. Like, he would not go on the hunt for someone who is evil, but passive.

Well I disagree on many many points. (hang in there, this is the first time I ever had to split a youtube comment but I do believe it's all worth your time) 1. Gon isn't always outclassed, when he arrives in the hunters exam is he the best one there? far from it, but he is at the top, very very obviously and he has skills no one else has which was made very clear for example in the Gourmet hunters test with both the egg catching and the pig hunting, Gon is just very good with the wilds and animals not with speed and accuracy like Killua is. To say Killua is years ahead is a mistake, it's not looking at the full picture, Killua is absurdly power at short burst high damage, extreme speed and alertness - those are all skills he learned being an assassin and they shape his personality and abilities but he wouldn't be able to sneak on Hisoka and steal his badge, he is not remotely as physically strong as Gon after heaven's arena at any point and he is much more fragile. To put in RPG terms, Killua is a melee DPS and gon is a tank, Killua is a strategist who thinks of the large picture and avoids trouble while Gon is a tactician who learns about his opponent and judges (usually pretty well) the current situation after he got himself into it. You see that when Gon figures out faster than anyone that Youpi might need to be fought by someone who isn't knuckle, and this is with Gon being completely angry And you of course also see that as he challenge himself time and again to get out of situations Killua wouldn't put himself through such as with the bomber - you can call it battle genius but he was very perseptive and sure that was a horrible idea but Gon figured a way out where many others wouldn't be able to. You also see that when he gets on Greed Island, sure it's mostly meh Nen users running about but Gon just learned Nen and even without Biski if we pretend like the bomber didn't exist, there should be very little doubt that Gon could eventually at the very least be able to collect some cards and get out, that again puts him at the top 10% of players, once again there are better opponents who prove stronger than Gon but that should be natural, the world is a big place, always being the strongest is unrealistic expectations from Gon when even Hisoka constantly finds himself not the strongest around. Sadly for Gon he much like Hisoka is always looking to challenge himself because he believes exactly what Hisoka believes - that when his life is on the line he will find a tactic, he will find a solution and he can win, no matter what or at least get out of there. And even though Hisoka is much stronger than Gon, much more skilled, a far superior tactician too, Hisoka loses an arm here and there and well.. spoilers for the manga but much more and I believe they both accept this is what they are getting themselves into, there will always be someone better, no matter who you are but if you always fight against your betters - you learn faster, you evolve faster, sometimes you die faster. 2. As to not growing fast, Kurapika is a special case of 'lul god mod activate' bs mary sue who needed to do absolutely nothing and then everything worked out for him (if you want to say chain jail bla bla spiders - just know that steal chain also forces zetsu, can be used on anyone and only technically comes out of a chain as it's more a random syringe, so no, everything Kurapika said about having a resolve with the spiders is just wrong, he just made an awful decision to make a strictly worse chain and also for some reason put a condition with it, because Kurapika has exactly the powers he needs for the current situation) Rant aside - other than Kurapika and prince Tserriednich and the Ants, Gon has shown the fastest growth, slightly faster than even Killua as Killua had a huge head start. (And we still don't have final confirmation about the prince either, it could always be just his bodyguard's perspective and she seems rather weak)
@blueplayer6197
@blueplayer6197 Жыл бұрын
Part 2: 3. As for morality - Gon isn't a blank slate and he is actually very consistent with his ideals. Gon is also not 'good' or 'bad' Gon is a proud 'true neutral', Hisoka is a threat to him but Gon doesn't see him as evil, Gon doesn't want to join forces with the likes of the troupe or the bombers and certainly not binolt but he is consistent at that, he cares for circumstances. To Gon every living being is allowed to do their best to survive the way they want to and live how they wish to, Gon is an absolute anarchist and he absolutely accepts murder as reasonable and fair as long as that murder serves a purpose, a goal, a reason and isn't just done to amuse oneself. And Gon for the most part is just not beyond giving another chance. When you look at how Gon handles the troupe, they are people who would run around and kill anything that's in their way, no matter how weak for fun not for revenge not for benefits just to throw a big nice fireworks show for Uvo or to remove tiny obstacles. If they were like Hisoka which again Gon doesn't hate - simply very powerful people running around killing those who they see as a challenge, Gon wouldn't dislike them at all. To Gon humans are just animals like any other - if something threatens them or if they need food - they kill and that's ok and that's fine which is why he finds it ok that Killua kills for missions let alone Killua killing during the exam where both sides knew what they are getting themselves into. But if you just run around on a murder rampage like pitou or the troupe, what does it matter at all if you are a human or some animal? Letting binolt and the bomber squads free aligns here, Gon simply learned Binolt was an outcast and this was his misled way to find a place for himself, but Binolt promised to give himself in and turn a page, he promised that he sees a new way - Gon trusts his instincts to spot it when someone changes and that's the same thing that happened with the bombers, they lost the game, they played in a very nasty way and it failed them, defeated and on the ground given mercy by Gon they had to rethink what it is they were doing and if it was worth it in retrospect and Gon just respects that. It also builds into the conversations he had earlier with Killua of why would you steal - that's just playing the game, that's just allowed, I think Gon came to accept that as well but the reason Gon was so much anti it wasn't that stealing is wrong - it was that it's something most cannot defend and are powerless against, it becomes not the 'fair and reasonable way' but the easy way, the way that goes through destroying the weak who don't want to play that way, that's why Gon can't accept it. The troupe is just that - they hunt the weak, they destroy the weak, they steal and leave and at first it looked like they just don't even care about each even, just murder machines aimlessly shooting and 'calling each other trash'. The Komugi example is a strict opposite, first of - since unlike the troupe Gon could have been reasoned with, sure he wanted to use Komugi's life as leverage but that was to get some sort of goal that doesn't involve destroying the weak for fun. That entire conversation for Gon involved around the hypocracy Pitou presented, how could Pitou ask for time to save their friend while showing no mercy with kite or the citizens? How could Pitou sit there and beg while never even pretending to listen to anyone else's pleas? And what really threw Gon into rage is how could it be the Pitou stands there healing some random person when it simply could have been so much easier if Pitou was trying to torture and abuse Komugi's corpse instead like he did with Kite? Because that actually forces Gon into a moral dillema because Pitou while being a monster may have some spark some little inkling of humanity somewhere. And that was the point of it and the point of threatening Komugi, he wasn't threatening Komugi because he wanted to kill Komugi for his own pleasure, he was trying to TEACH PITOU A LESSON. Because to Gon Pitou was the selfish psycho who only understands when their own interests are being hurt (Komugi is Pitou's interest at that point) and cannot feel any compassion towards anyone else nor does Pitou even understand what's the point of compassion, he keeps insisting after all 'this is for the king' NOT for Komugi. And then after all that when Pitou is just like 'Well sorry guess I gotta kill you now' while Gon is on the ground crying the loss of Kite, having not 5 minutes ago been in the exact same situation with Komugi, it signals to Gon that Pitou still doesn't understand what is even the point of compassion and is simply never going to learn. This wasn't just for Kite, Gon was killing someone who he considered beyond redemption, beyond any merit, not humane. And it's likely the first time that Gon leaves a defeated opponent without them having any sort of change of heart after learning that they aren't invincible - so he snaps, how can such evil even exist? how can it be allowed to exist? how is it that unlike everyone Gon has ever met - this evil kitty has just no redeeming qualities, it goes through all this and the first thing it spits out of his mouth is 'oh well guess I'll kill you now' even Youpi wasn't this bloodthirsty and unreasonable. Yes Gon went in there bent on revenge and it absolutely didn't help his judgement but Pitou dug his own grave if he just had the decency to say 'I am sorry, I didn't know how that felt, I didn't consider that abusing corpses for my own fun and amusement is crossing every single imaginable line' there's a very very real chance that Pitou walks out of there alive. But Pitou is just evil, he doesn't understand what he did wrong, he doesn't understand that others exist that aren't the king but still matter even if they don't matter to the king himself. If it wasn't Pitou but Hisoka killing Kite in a fair and agreed upon duel - Gon wouldn't have this reaction, his reaction came solely from the collapse of his one true belief - that anyone can change and everyone deserves to be heard and judged fairly and no one is truly evil, they simply have goals that do not align with yours and that should be ok. tl;dr Gon is absolutely awesome.

Actually Gon is exactly like Goku. Naive kid, a simple piece of chaotic energy with eyes that can only comprehend what is front of him, not yet formed as a social being. That is what Goku was before meeting Chichi in DBZ and what their model Son Wukong aka the monkey king, aka the "animal from heaven," is supposed to be like. In Journey to the West, Wukong needs to be controlled via a taoist device and has a monk tame him in order to behave with human manners. Adhering to the philosophies of John Locke, the theme is that before proper education and social training, children are naturally like animals behaving on instinct and desires rather than "common" sensibility and reasoning, but that this state is not wholly "negative" as it actually has a primal charm that people are naturally attracted to.

"Selfish" is the wrong word to describe Gon. Selfish is when you have enough food for both you and your friends, but you decided to keep everything for yourself and not share any. That is not Gon. Especially when Gon sacraficed himself to avenge his friend Kite, that is exactly NOT what a selfish person would do. A selfishness person would have run away in that situation because protecting himself from any harm would have been the top priority and he could not have gained anything from avenging his friend. In addition, avenging for a friend's death is not throwing a tandrum. In the world of Hunter x Hunter, in order to achieve justice to Kite's death, what could Gon have done? Call the police? Or perhaps settle it in the court of law? Gon might have lost his mind against Neferpitou when avenging for Kite but Neferpitou is far from being innocent. In another perspective, Neferpitou got what she deserved for what she has done. Gon is simply "simple-minded," and maybe even pure-minded. Simple-minded people can be easily influenced negatively and be extremely stubborn toward achieving goal. But to call him bad or even selfish... That's just wrong.

8:48 That's one of the reasons why I love the Genthru vs Gon fight so much. *Spoilers for Hunter x Hunter* Genthru fought Gon as an equal and when he grabbed both of Gon's hands he expected, like most normal people would, for him to defend one of his arms. Gon, being well...Gon, decided to say "Screw all of that" and sacrificed pretty much both of his arms so he could get a clean hit to Genthru's jaw. Genthru wasn't the worse or weaker fighter by any means, he was vastly superior to Gon but he essentially got outdumbed by Gon who threw caution to the wind. Moments like that are why I love Hunter x Hunter 🥰

I remember the scene when Pakunoda (mindreader spider) asked Gon and Killua why they didn’t run off thus enable Kurapika to kill Chrollo without any worry about them. They said because they are friends with Kurapika, so they can automatically decide what’s the best for him (not killing Chrollo). Which they already know it is Kurapika’s main goal in his life and what’s the history behind it, but they didn’t even bother. Thus, its leads to more conflicts to Kurapika and the Spider But when Pitou killed Kites, Gon can have his own revenge by killing her brutally since its affect the person he cares and Killua can kill whoever he wishes. Its was irony at its fullest and until now its really pissed me off! I know it was just fictional show and it is a plot to develop the story but man its just bother the hell outta me😂 Ps: its my first time writing a long sentence ever in youtube. And English is not my first language, hopefully u guys understand it tho

I mean he is my fav he is sweet and nice for a kid but weird at times..like I can list all of his red flags lmao: -First red flag everyone had normal reactions to dead bodies while Gon is like meh. -First fear of his life with Hisoka and everyone run away from this crazy dude while Gon found it thrilling he was close to death and Kurapika even took a weird look at him. -He didn't mind Killua being an assassin. -He smiled seeing a man heart ripped off. -He got excited to chase Hisoka tag rather than collect 3 tags but his ego run so much when he was handed his not like he earned it to point he chased the man to return it back. -He to prove a point to another villain let his arms get blown up doing a homage to guess what a serial killer lol -He teamed up with the said serial killer at dodgeball and even treat him as an idol lol. -He used his best friend hands to get his victory just because he wanted to stay at the court with 3 people and grant absolute win. - He thanked a killer because he was good for training. -He almost lost his life to get some thrill in battle in heavens arena. -He psychologically tortured opponents. -He threatened to use Kumogi as hostage an innocent blind girl yeah. -He was antagonizing Chrollo for killing and he is ok with killing anyways like? - He originally wanted to kill Pitou when she is healing Kumogi to grant his selfish desire by her death and badmouthed Killua for preventing him even if it was for Kite. - He even was ok with older chicks in island teaching him stuff like what? He is a red flag but I like him still lol

Yeah, no. That would be boring and as “deep” as you might want things to be it would be lame. Why not let gon become a heroin addict after realizing he peaked as a child and can never be a part of the wild and incredible world of hunters and nen. He can can progress into a shady thief and liar who pushes all his loved ones away and then reach new lows so we can have a show with “mature themes” that are so profound. Yeah or we can just appreciate this moment for what it was and have a normal shounen growth arc where the powers are regained with an appreciation that wasn’t there before. Who the fuck wants to watch a show where gon doesn’t do shit again.

They "caught" a serial killer after he tried to kill them and gave him the opportunity to save himself. There's nothing tragic about that. Killua ripped that guy's heart out... but that guy is an admitted serial killer and while the guy was talking about how he was going to kill him. That doesn't make Killua any less friend worthy. To think of him as a villain and one worse than Meruem doesn't follow at all. Gon never actually killed anyone unless you count the monsters on greed island or the chimera ants and then it was only Baro and Neferpitou that I can remember (don't remember if he killed the snake, owl, or bat but thought he left them alive so on the high end he killed 5). He also, despite that being his stated objective, didn't kill Neferpitou until after he attacked him from behind and Neferpitou was responsible for almost 500,000 human deaths.

This is exactly why paying attention to small details count so much. George RR Martin did the exact same thing with Daenerys Targaryen in 'Game of Thrones' as Togashi did with Gon.. The red flags of a morally ambiguous mindset were there from the start. And all it took was the death of a friend to send them over the edge: Kite with Gon, and Missandel with Daenerys.

Calling Gon a blank slate, reminds me of 2 of Togashi's earlier villans from YuYu Hakusho. I am referring to Sensui and his right hand man/demon Gatekeeper (4got his real name). Gatekeeper referred to Sensui as "Pure" and used a piece of cloth as purely white as an example of innocence. He said something along the lines of, if a drop of black, or imperfection landed on this model of innocence, it would inevitably, inexorably turn this Pure being, this innocent being, completely evil/broken. Don't know if Togashi was using Gon as that analogy from YuYu Hakusho, but thought I would drop this here, since it seems like an interesting coincidence/parallel from his previous works.

I've got to disagree with you. Yes he's a kid and he doesn't see good and evil like us in our biased, adult human minds. Gon is the ideal perfect being, or at least strive to be, like a diamond (as commented by Besky). He is ill-fitted for our world simply because the world is too imperfect for him. I don't think it's becoz of selfishness that he disobeyed Wing. His fighting philosophy is to face the unknown rather than to train adequately and prepare beforehand. Later he did obey Wing and stop using Nien for 3 months. He also changed his mind and didn't endanger the guardsman outside Killua's mansion coz he cares for others and has sympathy.
@jephilologist

6:00 Exactly. I'm with you on this one- and I've disagreed with Alexander's analysis of Gon before (with lengthy disagreements in the comments of that vid). Some see Gon as a moral hypocrite (for the Komugi threat), but I didn't see it that way. Gon's questioning of Chrollo, Gon throwing down Nobunaga's arm while somewhat demanding tears for the Troupe's victims, or Gon telling Killua that only he himself can act selfishly, were to me, not signs of hypocrisy- but rather a very transparent display of Gon only being concerned about his own feelings- particularly his selfish desire to protect what he thinks of as his family (or those in his group). In my theory, this could be a coping mechanism- for the "dad" that was never there to protect him; he feels protective of his in-group. So when one of them dies because of him (Kite), he is utterly devastated. And you might ask, why is it "selfish" to try to protect your family? For a 12 year old child, it is very selfish, egotistical and precocious. As a child, your place is not to protect your family, but to be protected by your family (and normally, raised until you reach adulthood). To think that as a child, just because you gained some powers, or are especially talented, that you have an obligation over the adults, to "change the world". That won't come until the child matures to adulthood. HxH shows how spectacularly devastating a nen-powered tantrum is.

Looking back, it says something that the only major victory Gon had was against the bomber and that required a lot of help and planning and cost him both hands. Even that was mixed as he nearly screwed the plan up just so he could feel satisfied fighting.
